PiranaZ Sportswear to sponsor Whisnant in 2001
01/22/2001
Mark Whisnant and the RW Performance Racing team are proud to announce the acquisition of a new sponsor for its Pro Stock Truck. PiranaZ Sportswear will take over as the major sponsor on Whisnant's Chevrolet S-10 for the entire 2001 NHRA Drag Racing season.
PiranaZ Sportswear is a sport's apparel manufacturing company based in Cottage Grove, Wis. PiranaZ has been in business since 1994 and is owned by Jeff Sommers. A unique, extreme, cutting-edge look is what the PiranaZ line is based on. The lines uncommon look is attractive to younger Generation X market.
Currently PiranaZ sportswear is distributed nationally and internationally in retail outlets such as J.C. Penney's, Gadzooks, most motorcycle/ATV shops, on their website www.piranazracing.com, and this year at NHRA national events. Whisnant's sponsorship is not PiranaZ first motorsports endeavor. They are also involved in AMA Motocross, Super-Bike, and the "X" games.
"We are proud and very excited to announce that PiranaZ Sportswear has come on board as our primary sponsor for the 2001 NHRA Pro Stock Truck season," said Whisnant. "I'm fired up.
"We have been working very hard for the last year to land a sponsor that would provide enough financial support for us to race the full season and would fit in with our team image. PiranaZ sportswear is an extreme, cutting-edge apparel company. They have an unique look and I think they fit well with our team.
"PiranaZ will start the season with us in Pomona and then by the time we get to Gainesville we will have a new paint scheme to unveil. PiranaZ will also unveil some cool new T-shirt and apparel designs to go along with the paint scheme."
Jeff Sommers, owner of PiranaZ, talked about his company's new association with Whisnant and NHRA Championship Drag Racing.
"We are excited to be associated with Mark Whisnant and his team for the 2001 NHRA Winston Drag Racing season," said Sommers. "Our company likes to work with racers we feel are up-and-coming in their sport. Mark and his team have the image and drive our company is looking for. They are young, aggressive, and extreme. Mark looks good and knows how to go fast. That's what we were looking for.
"When we looked at getting involved in NHRA Drag Racing we wanted to stay away from the standards. Our company was founded on being unique, so we didn't just want to sponsor another car. We wanted to start out in another class and give someone else a chance. We looked around and felt that Whisnant and his team had the look and the ambition to represent and support our product in the style of our company -- extreme.
"At the race in Gainesville PiranaZ will unveil our new PiranaZ 2001 collection of extreme racing designs and an extreme paint design on Mark's truck. The collection is designed by wicked science and technology with the racer and the fan that is looking for something different in mind. We look forward to a great year with Mark both in the pits and on the midway."
