Auto Club renews NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion sponsorship

08/19/2002

The NHRA Motorsports Museum and the Automobile Club of Southern California announced that the Auto Club has renewed its sponsorship of the upcoming NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion.

The 11th Annual NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion, presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California, will take place at historic Famoso Raceway near Bakersfield, Calif., on Oct. 4-6.

"Our continued relationship with the Automobile Club of Southern California demonstrates the value provided by sponsorship of this event," said Steve Gibbs, NHRA vice president and director, of the NHRA Motorsports Museum. "The NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion is the premiere event of its type, bringing together hot rodders and racing fans for family fun and excitement."

"We're pleased to continue our support of the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion," said Rick Lalor, Motorsports and Event Manager for the Automobile Club of Southern California. "Hot rodding is a truly American institution and the Reunion showcases the innovative technology and celebrates the accomplishments of so many legends whose genius, craftsmanship or skill behind the wheel of a race car has evolved into today's dynamic automotive industry.

"Couple that with our unique California car culture on display, courtesy of the hundreds of hot rod and street rod enthusiasts who drive their creations to the track for all of us to enjoy, and this is an event not to be missed."

Since its inception in 1992, the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion has offered hot rodders and racers the opportunity to reunite with old friends and reminisce about "the good old days." The Reunion includes competition on the racetrack, a car show, a chance for fans to meet the legends and stars of the sport, a barbecue and the highly popular "Cacklefest."

"The Cacklefest is a major crowd favorite that thrills the throngs of fans who pack the grandstand to watch," said Gibbs. "The activity involves early-days-style front-engine dragsters being push-started, then all gathered together on the drag strip starting-line grid with engines running."

Auto Club members will receive a $2 discount on daily admission when they present their membership card at the Famoso Raceway ticket window.

Tickets for the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion are available by calling (800) 884-6472. A full event credential is $50 for adults and only $10 for those under 16. Full event credentials include a "goody bag" that features the highly collectible Reunion Annual and a dash plaque. Camping passes are available with credential purchase at $35 and swap meet spaces are just $40 for a 20' x 20' space. Daily tickets may be purchased at the gate of Famoso Raceway, about 12 miles north of Bakersfield on Highway 99.
