Results for Qualifying Round 1
LAS VEGAS - LAS VEGAS 1 - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Vince Fourcade Runs 6.898/199.64, Now #1
12:47 p.m. Current weather conditions: 66 degrees, 60 percent relative humidity, the absolute barometer 27.94 inches, adjusted altitude 3,044 feet, with a track temperature of 85 degrees.

Track drying took a little over the estimates 90 minutes, but not by much. Vince Fourcade got to lead off because he has the lowest points total. He is in the Hurley Blakeney, Nitrofish-sponsored '03 Ford Escort. Nice opening run.

Left Lane: Gordie Rivera Runs 10.992/80.15, Now #3
Right Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 7.032/196.70, Now #2
Rivera shook and slowed. Cunningham ran it all the way through.
Left Lane: Fernando Cuadra Runs 7.290/190.27, Now #4
Right Lane: Steve Johns Runs 6.890/199.55, Now #1
Cuadra had a lot of tire spin on the launch. Johns made a clean pass in the "Grumpy-powered" Cavalier.
Left Lane: Tony Rizzo No Time, Now #8
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.953/198.17, Now #3
Rizzo left before the tree was activated. Watson made a clean run.
Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.966/199.08, Now #4
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.970/199.29, Now #5
Troy's car was all over the first 300 feet of the lane. Gaines was slow off the starting line and never made it up.
Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.919/199.26, Now #4
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.882/199.46, Now #1
Both posted 1.01 60-foot times, but Pawuk pulled away from Krisher on the top end. Pawuk has the in-car camera this weekend and he was visibly pleased with this run after a very frustrating weekend in Gainesville.
Left Lane: Barry Grant Runs 6.965/198.50, Now #7
Right Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 6.953/199.26, Now #5
Both were well behind the 330-foot times posted by Krisher and Pawuk.
Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.954/199.20, Now #8
Right Lane: JR Carr Runs 6.928/198.90, Now #5
Pawuk's run is looking better with each pair of cars that goes down the track...neither driver in this pair had any visible problems.
Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.933/199.61, Now #7
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.919/199.55, Now #4
Two more clean runs...
Left Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 6.927/200.20, Now #7
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.859/200.77, Now #1
Line shows what Greg Anderson/Ken Black power can do for you.
Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.944/199.26, Now #10
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 7.431/133.58, Now #19
Yates was on a fast pace to half track, second-quickest to that point, then he slowed, the car getting loose.
Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.925/199.97, Now #8
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.898/199.37, Now #5

Left Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.977/198.58, Now #20
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.891/200.11, Now #4
Connolly's car was very loose, all over the lane. Straight down the groove for Morgan.
Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.901/200.20, Now #8
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.874/201.16, Now #2
Two pairs left...two straight runs and a big speed for WJ.
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.857/201.46, Now #1
Right Lane: Greg Anderson No Time, Now #28
Last pair...no times came up in Anderson's lane, the staging beam was still on after he launched. The starting line crew found a piece of cellophane blocking the staging beam, so the timing system never knew he'd left the line. He'll get another shot later this afternoon.

                                  No Prior Run
Current weather conditions: 67 degrees, 49 percent relative humidity, the absolute barometer 27.90 inches, adjusted altitude 3,146 feet, with a track temperature of 87 degrees.

Anderson made what appeared to be the best run of the first session, but a big piece of cellophane blew into one of the staging photo cells and the clock never started. He came back and showed his dominance by going to the #1 spot and setting both ends of the Las Vegas track record. Anderson's incremental times: 1.006/60-ft. 2.839/330-ft. 4.373/160.35 mph/660-ft. 5.696/1,000-ft.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.948/198.17, Now #18
