      A/AA Index: 7.17

      C/AA Index: 7.99

Left Lane: Bill Kent Runs 12.338/66.36/4.838, Now #19
      C/D Index: 7.50
Right Lane: Lou Ficco Runs 7.679/173.21/-0.201, Now #13

Neff bounced around and went to #1 in the first round of qualifying. He did it again here but this time the movement was so violent he had to lift off the loud pedal. Mettler improves slightly but remains #9.
Left Lane: Mike DePalma Runs 8.126/165.25/-0.644, Now #2

Right Lane: Dan Fletcher Runs 8.186/135.62/-0.454, Now #21
      C/EA Index: 8.64 Prior Best: 8.653/112.45/0.013, Was #25
Fletcher legged this one a bit further than he did in the first round but was still coasting well before the finishline. That's all for the second round of Comp qualifying. I believe Pro Stock is next.

W/L Driver Class Index RT ET Ov/Un

Mike DePalma's MOV: 0.0244 seconds (approximately 6 feet). Great light for DePalma as well.

 (W) Brian Browell D/D 7.82 0.062 8.693 0.873
 (L) Frank Nelson A/A 7.11 -9.999(R)NT-No Show
Nelson was a noshow and Browell gets the automatic win.
 (W) Shane Gray B/A 7.60 0.049 7.472 -0.128
 (L) Dean Howerton C/D 7.50 -0.017(R) 7.480 -0.020
Someone had to do it, this IS Comp! Howerton turns on the red and sends Gray to the second round.
 (W) Tom Mettler PST 8.01 0.086 7.420 -0.590
 (L) Will Hatcher A/DA 7.14 0.035 6.695 -0.445
Mettler defies the CIC gods and darn near takes that dreaded forever CIC. As it is he gets the win but loses darn near a tenth in index in the second round.
 (W) Alan Ellis A/AP 7.26 0.044 6.701 -0.559
 (L) Scott Hedlund A/SM 8.41 0.059 7.846 -0.564
Ellis makes his best run of the weekend and still has a close MOV: 0.0108 seconds (approximately 3 feet). He loses a nickel to CIC in the next round.
 (W) Steve Holloway A/AA 7.17 -0.074 8.956 1.786
 (L) Bob Hass B/AA 7.64 -9.999(R)NT-Left Before Tree
Hass throws away a #11 qualifying position as his Grand Am dragged him through the lights at the hit and he left before the tree came down. Holloway got the benefit of Hass's problems.
 (W) Justin Lamb G/SMA 9.36 0.021 9.360 0.000
 (L) Bill Kent C/D 7.50 -0.032(R)10.700 3.200
Kent goes red and shuts the car off early. Lamb will move on after he shut off early as well.
 (W) Jim Cowan I/AA 8.79 0.010 9.141 0.351
 (L) Joe Mozeris C/DA 7.57 -0.050(R) 7.166 -0.404
Mozeris takes a shot at the tree and misses by -.050. Cowan would have been tough with his .010 light anyway.
 (W) Lou Ficco B/AP 7.88 0.103 12.476 4.596
 (L) Thomas Shambaugh DD/AT 7.90 -0.032(R) 9.698 1.798
This just wasn't Shambaugh's day. He redlights then appears to explode a turbo so badly that both cars were lost behind the wall of smoke. There's not a single mosquito to be found within miles of Firebird Raceway.
 (W) Lee Sharp D/SMA 8.97 0.023 9.635 0.665
 (L) Matt Hartford A/D 7.04 -0.065(R) 6.965 -0.075
2:41 p.m. That was a bit of a cleanup. We were down for about 15 minutes but were back to work. After all of that waiting Hartford goes red and Sharp advances to the second round with little effort and no CIC.
 (W) Todd Patterson E/A 8.36 0.059 8.126 -0.234
     was unopposed
Patterson gets the single as the top qualifier and a 31 car field. He clicks it off very early and takes no chance with a accidental index hit.
 (W) Clint Neff K/A 8.55 -0.012 8.413 -0.137
 (L) Clark Smiley B/SM 8.68 -9.999(R)NT-No Show

 (W) John Edwards C/AA 7.99 0.326 8.798 0.808
 (L) Steve Graham C/A 7.98 -9.999(R)NT-No Show
Graham is another noshow and Edwards shuts off before half track.
 (W) Doug Lambeck D/SMA 8.97 -0.004 8.664 -0.306
 (L) Tom Radeff A/AA 7.17 -9.999(R)NT-No Show
Another walkover.
 (W) Dan Fletcher C/EA 8.64 0.063 8.733 0.093
 (L) Ray Goodman A/EA 7.87 -9.999(R)NT-No Show
And another. Fletcher singles as Goodman is nowhere to be found.
 (W) Dean Carter B/ND 7.57 0.054 7.221 -0.349
 (L) Art Hodges A/PM 7.07 -9.999(R)NT-No Show
This time it's Hodges that's a noshow against Carter. That's all for round 1.

CHANDLER, Ariz. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Lucas Oil Slick Mist NHRA Nationals:
W/L Driver Class Index RT ET Ov/Un

 (W) Steve Holloway A/AA 7.17 0.083 6.566 -0.604
 (L) Clint Neff K/A 8.55 0.051 8.000 -0.550
9:48 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 62 degrees, relative humidity 41 percent, barometer 28.95 inches, adjusted altitude 1,797 feet, track temperature 65 degrees.

Conditions look a bit different this morning there are high clouds just about covering that layer of blue. If that holds it might be warm but less direct sun on the track might be helpful. Steve Holloway's MOV: 0.0223 seconds (approximately 5 feet).

 (W) Lee Sharp D/SMA 8.97 0.096 8.450 -0.520
 (L) Alan Ellis A/AP 7.21 0.068 10.110 2.900
Ellis's roadster stumbles after about 60ft and would not come back to life. Sharp with a round win.
 (W) Lou Ficco B/AP 7.88 0.127 7.296 -0.584
 (L) Tom Mettler PST 7.92 0.008 7.478 -0.442
Lou Ficco's MOV: 0.0232 seconds (approximately 6 feet). That was expensive for Ficco as he tosses away almost a tenth to CIC in the next round. Ouch!
 (W) Doug Lambeck D/SMA 8.97 0.055 8.761 -0.209
 (L) Shane Gray B/A 7.60 -0.029(R) 7.277 -0.323
Gray can't wait and that ugly red light shines on the tree. Lambeck takes the automatic win and clicks it early.
 (W) Dan Fletcher C/EA 8.64 0.019 8.722 0.082
 (L) Mike DePalma I/A 8.77 -0.010(R) 8.587 -0.183
DePalma is next to toss out a chance at the win with a red bulb. Fletcher clicks it early and saves index.
 (W) Brian Browell D/D 7.82 0.045 7.277 -0.543
 (L) Jim Cowan I/AA 8.79 0.015 8.381 -0.409
Browell takes a little to much stripe over Cowan and it'll cost him almost a nickel in round three.
 (W) Todd Patterson E/A 8.36 0.008 7.829 -0.531
 (L) Dean Carter B/ND 7.57 0.028 7.168 -0.402
Two great Comp lights but Carter chooses not to use up the index to close on a streaking Patterson. To early in the season to hit indexes.
 (W) Justin Lamb G/SMA 9.36 0.005 8.788 -0.572
 (L) John Edwards C/AA 7.99 0.039 7.435 -0.555
Lamb with the better light and the win over Edwards. Next round looks like this: Patterson vs Ficco; Holloway vs Lamb; Fletcher vs Browell and Sharp vs Lambeck.

Results for Elimination Round 3
CHANDLER, Ariz. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Lucas Oil Slick Mist NHRA Nationals:
W/L Driver Class Index RT ET Ov/Un

 (W) Lou Ficco B/AP 7.80 -0.017 7.948 0.148
 (L) Todd Patterson E/A 8.33 -0.014(R) 8.903 0.573
12:17 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 28 percent, barometer 28.93 inches, adjusted altitude 2,318 feet, track temperature 97 degrees.

Patterson has a whopping 11 Comp wins and Ficco is no slouch with 3 of his own. Patterson has the first chance and he turns on the red light in his lane giving Ficco a free pass to the semi finals.

 (W) Dan Fletcher C/EA 8.64 0.038 8.038 -0.602
 (L) Brian Browell D/D 7.78 0.013 7.215 -0.565
In this pair Fletcher has four wins in Comp and Browell three. All of Browell's came at Atlanta. He must love that place! Fletcher stretches this one all the way as he runs -.602 and loses a full tenth in his semi.
 (W) Doug Lambeck D/SMA 8.97 0.012 8.416 -0.554
 (L) Lee Sharp D/SMA 8.97 0.043 8.398 -0.572
Lambeck takes his seven national event wins to the starting line against Sharp's...uh, zero. Lambeck is away first and he only loses a nickel to CIC. He might need that when he races Fletcher in one semi.
 (W) Justin Lamb G/SMA 9.29 0.013 9.313 0.023
 (L) Steve Holloway A/AA 7.07 -0.007(R) 6.680 -0.390
Neither Lamb or Holloway have ever won a national event in Comp. Holloway goes red and will face Ficco in the other semi final.

W/L Driver Class Index RT ET Ov/Un

 (W) Lou Ficco B/AP 7.80 0.001 7.415 -0.385
 (L) Justin Lamb G/SMA 9.29 0.062 9.046 -0.244
2:09 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 2,549 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.

We're setting up the Comp final round here. Ficco left no doubt about this one as he throws out a .001 light and wins by 42ft at the other end. Lamb had a good light but not the performance.

 (W) Dan Fletcher C/EA 8.54 0.016 8.492 -0.048
 (L) Doug Lambeck D/SMA 8.92 -0.028(R)13.470 4.550
Oh man, that's disappointing. I really wanted to see this come off as a good race. Lambeck can't wait and the red comes on in his lane. That means the final will be Fletcher and Ficco. That will be Fletcher's forth consecutive final in national event Comp racing.

W/L Driver Class Index RT ET Ov/Un

 (W) Dan Fletcher C/EA 8.54 0.023 9.865 1.325
 (L) Lou Ficco B/AP 7.80 -0.030(R) 7.829 0.029
3:48 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 22 percent, barometer 28.86 inches, adjusted altitude 2,821 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.

Ficco makes three finals in a row where the red light is the deciding factor. That also makes his fifth overall Comp title in less than two full seasons in the class. As an aside this title also ties him for eighth place in total national event wins overall with fifty eight.
