Results for Qualifying Round 1
CHANDLER, Ariz. - PHOENIX - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Lucas Oil Slick Mist NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.397/268.38, Now #1
2:18 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 16 percent, barometer 28.79 inches, adjusted altitude 2,685 feet, track temperature 101 degrees.

Nitro Funny Cars, with Tim Wilkerson leading off, open the first Nitro session. Wilkerson was soft on the first hit and the engine felt silent well before the 1K marker. Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.944 sec., 330ft-2.453, 660ft-3.513/239.57 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.106/298.93, Now #1
Right Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 4.728/197.10, Now #3
Matt Hagan is attempting to make his second NHRA event as a Funny Car pilot and does so with his personal best ET and speed in the Brakesafe Charger. Toliver, in the Jim Dunn tuned and Canidae Pet Food sponsored Monte Carlo, was on a nice run until the fire went out at about 800ft. Couldn't see the why of that one. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.903 sec., 330ft-2.325, 660ft-3.301/262.54 mph.
Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 7.431/101.12, Now #4
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 9.551/80.49, Now #5
Back to the drawing boards for both teams after this pair shook the tires in unison with Bode staying with it just a bit longer than Arend. You could see the dotted line tire tracks in both lanes after the run.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 6.601/98.41, Now #5
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.126/301.74, Now #2
Neff was either smoking pretty good or there was a ton of raw fuel coming out of the Ford. Either way when Neff stepped down the engine cleared up and pulled strong enough to put him in the second spot behind Hagan. Pedregon looked good early but something went away and he coasted down range. Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.488, 660ft-4.352/113.25 mph.
Mike Neff's incremental times: 60ft-0.898 sec., 330ft-2.332, 660ft-3.322/259.61 mph.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.927/207.94, Now #5
Right Lane: John Force Runs 12.273/50.55, Now #9
Pedregon left and when into tire shake within a few feet of the starting line. He pedaled and tried to continue the run but his racer sort of blubbered to the finish under a little power. Force struck the tires and coasted the entire length of the track.
Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 8.954/78.16, Now #9
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 5.092/157.80, Now #6
Beckman struck the tires early on and we're starting to form a little pattern here. Tasca got the car off the starting line but found traction to be at a premium after half track. He tried to pedal but the Ford was having no part of that trick.
Left Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 5.003/183.27, Now #7
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.287/240.08, Now #3
Worsham looked good for the first half of the track but started spinning the Goodyears after that point. Force pedaled after the hit and the car went a bit sideways on her at about 400ft. She pedaled a second time and when she hit the pedal again it appeared the rods came out the bottom. There was a flash fire and now the Safety Safari begins the clean up at the 660ft mark. Upon further review, while I was watching Force and her fire, it appears Worsham also spilled some 'stuff' in his lane as well.
Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.389/224.32, Now #4
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 6.555/107.10, Now #10
Densham is here this weekend and appears to have some sponsorship from Ascomboro Tequila. I sure hope I spelled that correctly as it was very strange and the name was not on the announcers screen. Densham left pretty well but the car laid down on him pretty hard at the big end. The Safari is out for a quick dust and clean but that might have just a tiny bit of leftovers from the prior pair. Hight shook the tires loose before half track and it simply would not recover for him.
Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.116/294.82, Now #3
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.116/300.86, Now #2
We're down to the final pair of Nitro Funny Cars and of course that would feature the winner and runnerup from Pomona, Capps and Head. 3:01 p.m. and the call goes out to 'Fire the next pair'! Side by side runs here with identical ETs! Capps will take the #2 spot behind Hagan and Head goes to #3 based on their speeds. That closes out the session with seventeen cars taking the green light.

Results for Qualifying Round 2
CHANDLER, Ariz. - PHOENIX - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Lucas Oil Slick Mist NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.089/298.14, Now #1
Best prior run: 12.273/50.55, Was #17
4:51 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 14 percent, barometer 28.74 inches, adjusted altitude 2,822 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.

Warm, dry and lots of altitude...but NO RAIN! Force had problems in the first round but makes up for it here but moving from out side the field (17 cars this weekend) and all the way to #1. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.891 sec., 330ft-2.317, 660ft-3.286/263.36 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.237/297.75, Now #7
Best prior run: 9.551/80.49, Was #17
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.125/301.40, Now #5
Best prior run: 8.954/78.16, Was #16
Beckman and Arend both had problems getting a grip on Firebird Raceway in the first round of qualifying. Round 2 shows just how good these crews are with a little bit of data. Beckman left first and outran Arend to the stripe by a tenth. It looked like the fuse in Beckman's Charger was cut right at 1000ft as there was a flash from the engine just as the chutes hit. Beckman is in the 12 car field for the moment and Arend makes the show as well.
Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.077/303.71, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.555/107.10, Was #15
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 7.893/86.56, Now #17
Best prior run: 7.431/101.12, Was #17
Two more racers that fell to the track in round 1. Hight and Prock have it figured as they take the Mustang to the top of the field, and sets top speed to this point for the Funny Cars. Bode left well but rattled the tires loose before half track. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.299, 660ft-3.274/261.52 mph.
Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.106/301.94, Now #3
Best prior run: 5.092/157.80, Was #15
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.164/296.05, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.601/98.41, Was #16
Of course we're on the provisional qualifying deal today so both of these drivers are not in the 12 car field coming into the session. Tasca makes a really good looking run and it's thing this is a really long track. Tasca's chutes didn't come out until WAY after the finish. He managed to stop the car on the black part of the track before going off into the desert. C.Pedregon moved into the short field in the other lane with a pass in the 'teens'.
Left Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 4.122/302.08, Now #7
Best prior run: 4.728/197.10, Was #14
Right Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 7.925/81.57, Now #16
Best prior run: 5.003/183.27, Was #16
Toliver surprises many with a beautiful run that was only marred by a little fight to keep the car off the center stripe at the finish. He managed to do that and is rewarded with a #7 position for the moment. A.Force was looking good until about half track when her pony went silent and coasted to the finish. She remains #16.Jerry Toliver's incremental times: 60ft-0.921 sec., 330ft-2.359, 660ft-3.324/265.17 mph.
Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.332/272.23, Now #14
Best prior run: 4.397/268.38, Was #14
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.104/295.72, Now #3
Best prior run: 4.927/207.94, Was #15
T.Pedregon made a great pass that didn't exactly end the way he wanted. Right at the stripe when the chutes hit the bottom erupted in a ball of fire. The Impala continued to burn as he tried to get the car stopped as when he did the Safari was all over him. They put a pretty large fire out very quickly. T.Ped said he was really surprised as everything was fine until he lifted off the throttle. Wilkerson made a quiet pass in the left lane that leaves him outside that provisional field going into Saturday qualifying.
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.072/305.22, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.287/240.08, Was #13
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.172/291.76, Now #13
Best prior run: 4.389/224.32, Was #15
Worsham makes his Friday move and takes the Al-Anabi Racing Solara right to the top of the field. Densham, in the Asombroso Tequila Impala, just misses the field at #13. Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.314, 660ft-3.276/265.22 mph.
Gary Densham's incremental times: 60ft-0.898 sec., 330ft-2.351, 660ft-3.344/255.19 mph.
Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.050/309.06, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.126/301.74, Was #11
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.145/296.37, Now #9
Best prior run: 4.116/294.82, Was #8
Well, that top spot didn't last long for Worsham. Neff comes back and goes low ET and top speed of the event for Funny Car. That run just missed the top 10 for 1000ft runs. It was the sixth fastest run at that distance. Head was just tenth behind but winds up in the ninth spot. Mike Neff's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.308, 660ft-3.265/267.64 mph.
Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.912 sec., 330ft-2.337, 660ft-3.324/255.77 mph.
Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.023/305.63, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.116/300.86, Was #8
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 5.156/143.69, Now #8
Best prior run: 4.106/298.93, Was #7
Capps comes right back with the second quickest run in the 1000ft era. Hagan was on a nice run until the Charger turned right at about 300ft. he had no choice but lift or run into the wall. He chose correctly. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.284, 660ft-3.235/267.96 mph.

Results for Qualifying Round 3
CHANDLER, Ariz. - PHOENIX - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Lucas Oil Slick Mist NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.148/297.09, Now #13
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 4.140/300.06, Now #12
                                  No Prior Run
1:31 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 28 percent, barometer 28.87 inches, adjusted altitude 2,481 feet, track temperature 99 degrees.

There's lots of sun on the track today and Firebird Raceway gave the Dragsters fits a few minutes ago. Normally the Funny Cars have even a harder time but let's see what the crews can do. The first pair looks good as it produces a pair of 4.14's and gets both cars in early in the session. These guys really are good!

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.196/293.60, Now #15
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.916/222.29, Now #16
                                  No Prior Run
Not nearly as pretty but Arend does find a solid way into the field. As it stands only one team will be packing at the end of qualifying today as there are seventeen Nitro Funny Cars on the grounds. Bode had something go south in the car's internal timing system as at about two seconds into the run all the cylinders almost quit firing. Jeff Arend's incremental times: 60ft-0.922 sec., 330ft-2.383, 660ft-3.378/257.53 mph.
Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 9.158/78.97, Now #7
Best prior run: 4.106/301.94, Was #7
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 7.332/93.21, Now #8
Best prior run: 4.106/298.93, Was #8
A definite lack of traction claims both cars before 200ft. Tasca lost traction first but Hagan followed very quickly in the other lane.
Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.105/299.13, Now #5
Best prior run: 4.089/298.14, Was #5
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.165/296.50, Now #15
                                  No Prior Run
Densham is doing all he can to make an impression on his sponsor for the weekend, Asombroso Tequila. That was a solid looking run but with nineteen cars here this weekend nothing in the bottom half can be considered 'safe'. Force didn't improve but that's two runs, back to back, that have looked good for 'The Champ'.
Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.094/299.46, Now #4
Best prior run: 4.077/303.71, Was #4
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 6.656/93.70, Now #14
Best prior run: 4.164/296.05, Was #14
C.Pedregon got to about 200ft at which point the tires rattled loose and he trailed lots of smoke before calling off the run. Hight follows the boss with he and Prock's two in a row good looking passes for his team.
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 6.554/98.45, Now #3
Best prior run: 4.072/305.22, Was #3
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.197/267.43, Now #9
Best prior run: 4.116/294.82, Was #9
Head is sporting a sign on the side of the car today touting 'Paul Bunyon's Firewood' website. Didn't see that yesterday and I have no idea what it might be. They can be found at paulbunyansfirewood.com. Head falls off a little from Friday but remains #9. Worsham has traction woes in the Toyota and he's forced to give this one up early also. At least he stays #3 based on his 4.072 in the second round of qualifying.
Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.124/300.86, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.050/309.06, Was #2
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.145/301.13, Now #11
Best prior run: 4.125/301.40, Was #11
According to some in the Press area Neff is doing at least some of the tuning on his Mustang with John Medlen recovering from his medical procedures. If that's the case it seems he hasn't forgotten all he learned before changing spots for a run. That's three good runs for the car and crew. Beckman slows a bit from his best but just commented that it was more important to have a good Sunday tuneup than be qualified in the top half.
Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 5.290/137.27, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.023/305.63, Was #1
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 7.896/80.82, Now #6
Best prior run: 4.104/295.72, Was #6
T.Pedregon lost traction fairly early in his run and was followed shortly by Capps, having the same problem. Pedregon remains #6 and Capps is still looking down on the rest of the field from that lofty top spot. One more session to go.

Here we are at the final session of Pro qualifying at Lucas Oil Slick Mist NHRA Nationals. Boy, is that a mouthful! Both cars have candles lighted all the way to the finish but it's Arend's earlier run that keeps him in the field while Bode misses on his shot. He made a nice pass, just not quite quick enough.

Left Lane: Gary Densham No Time, Now #15
Best prior run: 4.165/296.50, Was #15
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 7.387/87.94, Now #13
Best prior run: 4.148/297.09, Was #13
Densham can't be bumped and considering his issues he decides to pull out of line. Wilkerson kicks the tires loose before 330ft but remains qualified at #13, a far better performance than at the one shot qualifying Winternationals.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.135/295.40, Now #12
Best prior run: 4.164/296.05, Was #14
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.140/300.80, Now #7
Best prior run: 4.106/301.94, Was #7
With all the cars accounted for we're simply qualifying for starting position now. Wow! this was a great pair to watch. High headerflames and even from all cylinders. The two were welded to each other, door handle to door handle to the 1K stripe. Cruz pulls up two spots and at the moment he's paired with J.Force for Sunday. Tasca remains #7.
Left Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 4.129/301.40, Now #12
Best prior run: 4.140/300.06, Was #13
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.069/306.53, Now #3
Best prior run: 4.089/298.14, Was #5
Father and daughter meet here in final qualifying and this one goes to the old man. He runs his second 4.0 of the weekend and goes all the way to #3 behind Capps and Neff. A.Force picks up one position.
Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.145/296.57, Now #11
Best prior run: 4.125/301.40, Was #11
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 5.228/140.61, Now #5
Best prior run: 4.077/303.71, Was #5
Beckman duplicates his round 3 efforts as far as ET goes but drops a few mph. He still feels the setup us good for Sunday. Hight rattled the tires loose and they started spinning at about 800ft. He will stand on his round 2 effort.
Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.136/299.06, Now #9
Best prior run: 4.116/294.82, Was #9
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 7.111/92.40, Now #4
Best prior run: 4.072/305.22, Was #4
Worsham spins the tires at about 500ft and he will stand on his second round qualifying effort. Head spun the tires late in the run but he remains #9 going into Sunday.
Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.131/300.20, Now #8
Best prior run: 4.106/298.93, Was #8
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.063/308.43, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.050/309.06, Was #2
Neff has really been in the groove this weekend and now Force says Medlen is 'barking out orders' over the phone from his hospital bed in Indy. You just can't stop these guys! Hagan puts it all together and makes another good run. That team make have something for the field this weekend.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.131/289.57, Now #6
Best prior run: 4.104/295.72, Was #6
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.119/304.53, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.023/305.63, Was #1
Pedregon was side by side with Capps until it appeared something broke near the lights. Capps got another full pull. Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.900 sec., 330ft-2.336, 660ft-3.323/262.33 mph.
Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.346, 660ft-3.321/263.00 mph. That was the final pair in qualifying but we have a few rounds of sportsman racing to be contested today.

Results for Elimination Round 1
CHANDLER, Ariz. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Lucas Oil Slick Mist NHRA Nationals:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Bob Tasca III (Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustan 0.140 4.095 302.41
 (L) Jerry Toliver (Canidae Pet Food Monte Carlo 0.156 6.413 102.67
11:28 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 33 percent, barometer 28.94 inches, adjusted altitude 2,287 feet, track temperature 85 degrees.

After a pretty strange opening round of Top Fuel we're about to find out what the Floppers have in store for us,. This is the first time Toliver and Tasca III have faced each other in eliminations and they are actually pretty close ET wise. Neither driver wants to see the timeslip and look at reaction times but it was tire shake that ended the effort for Toliver. He made it to about 200ft before he had to click it off.

 (W) Del Worsham (Al-Anabi Racing Solara) 0.086 4.096 302.28
 (L) Cruz Pedregon (Advance Auto Parts Solara) 0.078 4.220 292.33
Pedregon is 18 - 8 against Worsham in prior events and 8-5 in round 1. Not going to happen here. Both left well but at about the 330ft mark Pedregon rattled the tires hard and the only way to bring it back was a hard slap on the pedal. From that point Worsham, in the Al-Anabi racer, pulled right on away for the win.
 (W) Tim Wilkerson (Levi, Ray & Shoup Mustang) 0.095 4.808 251.20
 (L) John Force (Castrol GTX Mustang) 0.077 9.000 71.59
Force is 24 - 8 against Wilkerson in prior events. Force was very slow to stage and Wilkerson waited quite awhile for the process to complete. Force rattled the tires loose at about 100ftr and the Ford just didn't respond to Force's efforts to recover the pass. In the other lane Wilkerson had his own problems as he smoked the tires at about 250ft. He pedaled and his Ford recovered and he force watched him streak away. That might take away a little of the Pomona pain for he and his team.
 (W) Mike Neff (JFR/Ford Mustang) 0.134 4.047 308.92
 (L) Gary Densham (Asombroso Tequila Impala) 0.145 4.134 297.42
Densham runs into a buzz saw called Mike Neff here in the first round. Densham gave him a race but the Ford is really hauling the mail this weekend. That was Neff's quickest pass of the weekend and I'm certain that the team will be on the phone with Medlen about round two. He has choice over Tasca next round as well.
 (W) Ron Capps (NAPA Auto Parts Charger) 0.113 4.105 305.91
 (L) Jeff Arend (DHL Solara) 0.104 7.157 87.78
Capps is 4 - 1 against Arend in prior events. Pretty even at the light but that was as close as it got. At about 200ft the Toyota shook hard and the tires boiled smoke. No pedal slap was going to save that one.
 (W) Robert Hight (AAA of So. Cal Mustang) 0.097 4.057 305.49
 (L) Ashley Force Hood (Castrol GTX Mustang) 0.076 4.095 303.16
Hight is 2 - 1 against Force Hood in prior events. It's teammates meeting here in the first round, much to the chagrin of both teams I'm sure. Force left first and really made a darn close race of this match up. Hight ran the second quickest pass of the round to this point and will have choice over Worsham in round 2. Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.909 sec., 330ft-2.321, 660ft-3.298/262.33 mph.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.901 sec., 330ft-2.304, 660ft-3.265/265.95 mph.
 (W) Jack Beckman (Valvoline/MTS Charger) 0.101 4.075 305.22
 (L) Tony Pedregon (Quaker State Impala) 0.072 6.895 78.11
Beckman is the defending Funny Car champ at this event but Pedregon has ideas of stopping that right here. Beckman and Pedregon have each won 3 times against the other in prior events. I guess you can say that shake ended this match as the car shook and the parachute either was triggered by the shake or banging the blower. I think looking at the replay that it was the second option that I'll mark true. There was a flash from the car and out came the chutes. Beckman took full advantage and makes his best run of the weekend to gain choice over Wilkerson next round.
 (W) Matt Hagan (Brakesafe Charger) 0.106 4.098 294.82
 (L) Jim Head (Team Strange Apparel Solara) 0.111 4.106 304.87
This is the first time Head and Hagan have faced each other in eliminations and on paper this is a very close match. Even start it's Hagan making his best run of the weekend and taking a close race at the stripe. Matt Hagan's MOV: 0.0133 seconds (approximately 6 feet). Jim Head's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.342, 660ft-3.312/264.75 mph.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.905 sec., 330ft-2.321, 660ft-3.288/263.72 mph. Hagan also earned lane choice over Capps in the second round.

Results for Elimination Round 2
CHANDLER, Ariz. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Lucas Oil Slick Mist NHRA Nationals:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Ron Capps (NAPA Auto Parts Charger) 0.083 4.118 304.67
 (L) Matt Hagan (Brakesafe Charger) 0.109 4.135 302.41
1:12 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 2,549 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.

This is the first time Capps and Hagan have faced each other in eliminations, no real surprise there since Hagan is only in his second event for DSR. Capps runs his winning streak to six rounds as he leaves first on Hagan and holds the lead from 'A' to 'B', so the drivers always say. Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.923 sec., 330ft-2.348, 660ft-3.320/262.59 mph.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.923 sec., 330ft-2.349, 660ft-3.331/261.07 mph.

 (W) Tim Wilkerson (Levi, Ray & Shoup Mustang) 0.107 4.286 228.42
 (L) Jack Beckman (Valvoline/MTS Charger) 0.118 5.845 122.53
Wilkerson and Beckman have each won two times against the other in prior events. Beckman struck the tires early in the run and Wilkerson built a huge lead. All seemed to be decided until the fire went out on one side of Wilkerson's engine and it drove him hard towards the concrete wall before the end of the 1K. The officials looked hard at the tape but decided there was no contact, and the win stood.
 (W) Mike Neff (JFR/Ford Mustang) 0.161 4.037 304.19
 (L) Bob Tasca III (Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustan 0.120 4.122 301.00
Tasca III and Neff have each won one time against the other in prior events. Neff lays down the forth quickest pass in 1000ft history and makes it plain he believes this is his day. Mike Neff's incremental times: 60ft-0.856 sec., 330ft-2.267, 660ft-3.241/263.10 mph. Mike Neff's MOV: 0.0442 seconds (approximately 20 feet). he also takes lane choice into his semi final match against Capps.
 (W) Del Worsham (Al-Anabi Racing Solara) 0.085 4.069 304.74
 (L) Robert Hight (AAA of So. Cal Mustang) 0.107 9.268 79.10
This was a bit of a surprise. Hight rattled the tires loose very hard at 200ft and could only watch Worsham streak away to another healthy 4.0 pass and lane choice over Capps in the other semi match. Del Worsham's incremental times: 60ft-0.903 sec., 330ft-2.321, 660ft-3.278/267.43 mph. According to Worsham right at the end of that pass he banged the blower and had no warning. Sounds like the team has a little work to do.

Results for Elimination Round 3
CHANDLER, Ariz. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Lucas Oil Slick Mist NHRA Nationals:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Ron Capps (NAPA Auto Parts Charger) 0.083 4.079 304.46
 (L) Del Worsham (Al-Anabi Racing Solara) 0.102 8.268 80.68
2:43 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 28.85 inches, adjusted altitude 2,669 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.

Capps is 27 - 9 against Worsham in prior events but this just might prove to be a bit closer. Worsham actually has choice over Capps and he takes the right lane. Ok, maybe not so close. for the second time in two events Capps is going to a final. Worsham moved about 30ft before there was smoke pouring off the Goodyears. Capps streaked away for a 4.079 pass and a pretty good looking speed for the NAPA car.

 (W) Mike Neff (JFR/Ford Mustang) 0.127 4.080 305.36
 (L) Tim Wilkerson (Levi, Ray & Shoup Mustang) 0.102 4.187 301.40
Wilkerson is 5 - 1 against Neff in prior events but Neff does get to choose the lane in this semi. Neff was second at the green but didn't even trail at 60ft. Wilkerson was mixing cylinders and Neff just pulled right on away for the win. Neff did lose lane choice to Capps in the final by .001.

Neff is looking to get the monkey off his back and win his first ever Funny Car event, he's been close but never closed the deal. This is the sixth time at this event that the #1 and #2 qualifiers in Funny Car have met in the final and no driver has won the first two events of the season in this class since Force did it in 1997. Oh this was just agony! Both cars made the burnout but only one returned to the starting line. Neff could not get the car into backup mode and finally had to idle down the track as Capps was already back at the starting line. Even Neff commented over the PA that he had REALLY wanted to win this one. It didn't happen though and Capps and team are off to a huge start in Nitro Funny Car.
