Right Lane: Kebin Kinsley Runs 6.582/230.06, Now #2
Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 74 percent, barometer 29.51 inches, adjusted altitude 2,495 feet, track temperature 92 degrees.Kinsley labored off the line...Foster slowed on the top end.
Left Lane: Jimmy Jones Runs 10.415/82.55, Now #4
Right Lane: Paul Anderson Runs 5.972/241.11, Now #1
Jones shook and got out of the groove and then it appears the engine went away as he was trailing a lot engine smoke. Anderson was straight down the groove.

Right Lane: Burl Brown Runs 5.958/243.28, Now #1
Yale is at his first National event and is skating around and then his engine lets go...Brown with a clean pass to open the weekend.

Burck with a lot of tire shake and clicks it off...Callaway pedaled it at least one time.

Moats has been to every race here except the one in 1996. Moats shakes and pedals it and is out of the groove and close to the wall. Wilson shakes, pedals it a couple times.
Left Lane: S. Gasparrelli Runs 8.108/117.56, Now #10
Right Lane: Marty Nothstein Runs 5.730/252.52, Now #1 Gasparrelli shakes and pedals it before he lifts. Nothstein drove through some tire shake and gets the quickest pass of the session.
Left Lane: Leif Andreasson Runs 6.443/135.08, Now #9
Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 5.792/253.37, Now #2
Andreasson was shaking and bouncing and around half track the chute came out. Harker with a good clean pass to start the weekend.
Left Lane: Alexis De Joria Runs 5.790/249.26, Now #2
Right Lane: Tony Bartone Runs 9.860/84.72, Now #14
De Joria with a good looking pass, the best in the left lane to move to the number two spot.
Bartone with violent tire shake and was out of the groove and off the throttle by 330 feet.
Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.760/252.85, Now #2
Right Lane: Mickey Ferro No Time, Now #18
Ferro broke on the burnout..Payne launched hard and kept it hooked up all the way down the 1320. He moves into the number two spot. That wraps up round one of Top Alcohol Funny Car qualifying.

Payne moves up the ladder one spot, and for the ninth time here he has qualified it the top half of the field.
Harker holds on to the number one spot for the fifth time in his career.
