Results for Qualifying Round 1
MADISON, Ill. - ST. LOUIS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 7.399/154.35, Now #1
Right Lane: Dave River No Time, Now #2
3:39 p.m.

Weather conditions: air temperature 60 degrees, relative humidity 64 percent, barometer 29.62 inches, adjusted altitude 987 feet.

Welcome to a very grey and overcast Gateway International Raceway. We've seen extremes of temperatures here in the modern era for this track. Early in this race's history it was held in late June and there were a few years where the heat was unbelievably oppressive.

This year I'm looking at the crew chiefs walking the starting line and they're wearing jackets, gloves, and caps. Expect to see some good times laid down here once the track comes in, but I don't expect any near-record passes since it's still very humid.

From what we saw with the motorcycles, the starting line is critical. There's decent traction but the setup has to be correct. Some racers blasted the tire into oblivion in the first ten feet and others ran very quick indeed.

As for the cars, we have some new faces pulling into the water. River is making his debut here. Hogan is new to the tour also.

Hogan gets out to about 330 and lifts. River can't wait for the tree and won't get a time. Hogan has bragging rights for Iowa Pro Stock racers for this session, at least.

Just as the next two cars pull into the water, the rain starts again. The pit side stands had gotten mostly full but right now the crowd's diving for cover. This isn't the mist we've been seeing all day; it's genuine drops.

3:42 p.m. and we're down again. The remaining cars are towed back to the pits.

Results for Qualifying Round 2
MADISON, Ill. - ST. LOUIS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Dave River Runs 7.015/196.50, Now #1
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 24.031/60.56, Now #2
Best prior run: 7.399/154.35, Was #1
11:53 a.m. and we're going to try this again. This will be the second pass for the first pair and the first time the rest of the cars have hit the track.

A pair of new Haas Pro Stockers line up, and both are from Iowa.

Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 29.59 inches, adjusted altitude 1,400 feet, track temperature 90 degrees.

Hogan's setup is way off as he blows the tires off in the first ten feet. River makes a straight run and will get some tuning data.

Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.660/207.85, Now #1
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.676/207.59, Now #2
                                  No Prior Run
Bob Glidden is at the water box guiding Humphrey. He's on the headset backing him up to the proper position.

Schmidt's long time associate Kenny Toms is right there behind his car taking a good look at how it reacts on the leave.

Humprey spins very hard and heads to the center line. He's able to catch it before he goes out of bounds but goes down the quarter to the left of the groove.

Schmidt has a lot less drama and puts up a big number. Both cars are within a few hundredths of their career best passes. It's going to get fun here.
Left Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.639/208.17, Now #1
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.740/203.31, Now #4
                                  No Prior Run
The sky has become overcast in the last few minutes so the track isn't in direct sunlight.

Enders' Mustang leaves OK but labors on its way to 330. It's apparent that more development is needed.

Northrop takes the long way to the finish line but jumps to the current top spot.
Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.651/208.14, Now #3
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.627/208.94, Now #1
                                  No Prior Run
I spoke to Brogdon before the session and he's pretty optimistic about his teams' future. I don't blame him a bit. They have the excellent Cagnazzi horsepower, a very capable Tommy Utt as a crew chief, a good sponsor in Charter, and that looks like a winning combination.

The car spent all last week at Cagnazzi's shop being tweaked. Keep in mind that Brogdon's car is a Jerry Bickel and the rest of the Cagnazzi fleet have been built in-house by Todd Bevis.

Charter is based here in the St. Louis area and Rodger does them proud as he rips off a pass that takes him to the top spot. According to my records, the speed ties Brogdon's career best.

Humphreys slides into the third spot but there's going to be a bunch of movement.
Left Lane: David Beckley Runs 6.643/208.14, Now #3
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.692/206.07, Now #7
                                  No Prior Run
Beckley parlays his J&J Hemi into a top qualifier.
Left Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.620/208.42, Now #1
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.635/207.11, Now #3
                                  No Prior Run
The track is definitely coming in as these two showed some very good front half times. Hammonds shows he is indeed someone to be dealt with as he takes over the top spot from Brogdon.
Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.628/209.14, Now #3
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.639/208.23, Now #5
                                  No Prior Run
Morgan slides left off the line and that little movement put him just behind Gray in the other lane.

Gray runs yet another 62, and some big speed to boot.
Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.682/208.97, Now #12
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.620/208.39, Now #2
                                  No Prior Run
Morgan is saying he's surprised we haven't seen a 50 by now but guarantees us the session will yield one.

WJ takes a close look at the wall just when he lets the clutch out. In a more or less patented move, he eases the car back into the groove.

Jones makes a nice pass and goes to the second spot. Like I said, there's a bunch of 62 so far.
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.576/210.21, Now #1
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.601/209.04, Now #2
                                  No Prior Run
Krisher looked a bit lazy off the line but it was only in relation to the rocketship sitting next to him.

KJ re-sets his own track speed record as he blasts the AC Delco Cobalt into the 50s.

Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.757, 660ft-4.233/167.01 mph, 1,000ft-5.505.

Ron Krisher's incremental times: 60ft-0.997 sec., 330ft-2.771, 660ft-4.250/166.29 mph, 1,000ft-5.525.

KJ's on the top end saying the run felt really straight and he thought he got pretty much all of it.
Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.573/210.37, Now #1
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.639/208.97, Now #9
                                  No Prior Run
Stanfield lets KJ feel good about his pass for about 30 seconds and then the low-buck family team lowers the boom on the rest of the field. It's the quickest and fastest that Stanfield has ever gone.

AJ's fine 63 gets left in the dust.
Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.586/209.75, Now #4
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.575/209.85, Now #2
                                  No Prior Run
It would be expected for one of these two cars to take over the top spot.

That would be an incorrect expectation as Edwards runs close but Stanfield remains on top.

Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.764, 660ft-4.239/167.09 mph, 1,000ft-5.512.
Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.756, 660ft-4.231/166.87 mph, 1,000ft-5.502.

Stanfield is thanking the Safety Safari for their track prep and saying he hopes his time will end up at least 4th or 5th.
Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.595/210.24, Now #5
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.613/209.01, Now #7
                                  No Prior Run
Stanfield's dead wrong, and he should be pretty happy about that. Even the titanic pair on the line can't knock him off the top of the pile, at least for this session.

Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.995 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.249/166.76 mph, 1,000ft-5.522.
Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.778, 660ft-4.260/166.15 mph, 1,000ft-5.537.

David Beckley is on the bump spot at 6.643.

Results for Qualifying Round 3
MADISON, Ill. - ST. LOUIS - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Castrol listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 21.814/62.61, Now #24
Best prior run: 7.399/154.35, Was #24
Right Lane: Dave River Runs 7.033/195.85, Now #23
Best prior run: 7.015/196.50, Was #23
2:36 p.m.

Weather conditions: air temperature 73 degrees, relative humidity 34 percent, barometer 29.55 inches, adjusted altitude 1,774 feet, track temperature 96 degrees.

Even with the weather being a bit worse, it appears that there's still some great performances for the taking considering what just happened in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Hogan once again has big problems on the starting line. River slows about what would be expected due to the weather.

Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.746/203.65, Now #22
Best prior run: 6.740/203.31, Was #22
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.648/208.75, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.682/208.97, Was #20
It's 2009 and things are different. Here we are in the final session, running the cars not currently in the program. Strangely enough, Warren Johnson is one of them.

Last pass, WJ hit the tires hard and the car skittered all the way to 330. He doesn't have much data and will have to wing it.

For the third time in four years, Warren Johnson fails to become one of the sixteen quickest Pro Stocks at Gateway.

Erica was a tenth behind and will look for more horsepower.
Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.679/206.70, Now #21
Best prior run: 6.692/206.07, Was #21
Right Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.655/207.66, Now #19
Best prior run: 6.660/207.85, Was #19
David Beckley is on the bump spot at 6.643.

Two very good cars are on the line, and it's somewhat surprising that neither will break into the show.

As if that wasn't bad enough, we seem to have some fluid in the right lane and the scrubber is working on the first hundred feet.
Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.687/207.05, Now #20
Best prior run: 6.676/207.59, Was #20
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.636/208.17, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.651/208.14, Was #18
You have to appreciate Ronnie Humphrey's talent in hiring help. Last week at Rockingham, he had ex world champion Mike Bell helping him out. Here, it's Bob Glidden. Like I said, the guy has a eye for talent.

Humphreys (no relation) in the other lane is doing a great job showcasing his Book Racing Engines power.

In fact, Bob Book should be a very happy man just now as his power just bumped into the show.

Dave Northrop is on the bump spot at 6.639.
Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.615/208.30, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.639/208.23, Was #15
Right Lane: David Beckley Runs 6.673/207.50, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.643/208.14, Was #17
Beckley's in control of his destiny. He just got bumped but here's his chance to get back in.

Morgan makes it in easily, and Beckley doesn't. Morgan had a superb setup as he hammered the front half of the track.

Larry Morgan's incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.765, 660ft-4.253/165.68 mph, 1,000ft-5.534.
Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.586/209.92, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.639/208.97, Was #15
Right Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.636/208.10, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.639/208.17, Was #16
These guys are currently 15 and 16, just by MPH.

Johnson takes care of that problem and leaves no doubt as to who is in charge of big power. He finally gets it right and shoves his way all the up to the fourth position.

Northrop stays on the bump for now.
Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.633/207.98, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.635/207.11, Was #14
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.611/208.91, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.628/209.14, Was #13
It appears that our field is set and any bumping from now on will be for position.

Spiess' Cobalt was puffing white smoke from time to time but still ran a decent number. Gray moves to the top half.
Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.643/208.88, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.627/208.94, Was #13
Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.622/208.26, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.620/208.42, Was #11
I really expected for Brogdon to move closer to the fifties on this pass but it's not happening on this pass.

Hammonds repeats his ET. A 62 is still plenty stout and a team running those consistently can win races.
Left Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.627/208.91, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.620/208.39, Was #12
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.605/209.69, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.595/210.24, Was #6
Line's car was dancing off the line but still cards a good ET. Jones' pass looked much straighter but didn't go as quick.

Rickie Jones' incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.776, 660ft-4.265/165.54 mph, 1,000ft-5.547.
Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.995 sec., 330ft-2.777, 660ft-4.257/166.60 mph, 1,000ft-5.531.
Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.609/209.56, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.613/209.01, Was #9
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.580/210.05, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.586/209.75, Was #5
Both cars step up a notch. I got a really good look at Anderson's car and watched the right rear quarter panel shiver each time a gear was changed.
Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.621/208.65, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.601/209.04, Was #7
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.590/209.88, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.576/210.21, Was #3
That was a nice pass for KJ that was faster than it looked.
Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.594/209.62, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.575/209.85, Was #2
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.598/209.23, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.573/210.37, Was #1
A lot of drama on the line right this second. Edwards has been low qualifier numerous times this year, Stanfield not so much. Greg's in the lead right this second but the Young Life car is certainly capable of stepping up.

It's two very good passes from drivers at the top of their games, and the Attitude Apparel GXP stays on top!

Striking a blow for the little guy, Greg Stanfield qualifies Number One.

Our congratulations on a job well done.

Results for Elimination Round 1
MADISON, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Castrol:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Jeg Coughlin (Jegs.com Cobalt) 0.026 6.628 209.33
 (L) Johnny Gray (Johnny Gray Racing Stratus) 0.053 10.763 82.95
12:16 p.m. The conditions look pretty good here for some stout performances.

Jeg always runs well at his "home" midwestern tracks. He won here in 2002 and was runner up in 1998 and 2007.

This one's over pretty quickly as Gray overpowers the starting line and shakes all the way to 250 feet, where he lifts.

 (W) Ron Krisher (Valvoline Cobalt) 0.047 6.612 208.39
 (L) Larry Morgan (Lucas Oil Stratus) 0.063 6.640 208.33
Krisher won here in 2000 and 2003, while Morgan was runner up in 2006. Bob Glidden is watching his pal Morgan stage. Instead of being behind the car, he's pretty far up on the right side.

Krisher has this race covered from start to finish and is ahead at every interval. Morgan seems to get across Gray's shake marks with no problems.

 (W) Jason Line (Summit Racing Equipment GXP) 0.019 6.590 210.18
 (L) Tom Hammonds (Race For Achievement Cobalt) -0.009(R) 6.634 207.85
Glidden's still on the line, this time taking a look at Hammonds' procedure.

Nice pass for Line as Hammond pushes the tree and loses.

 (W) Rickie Jones (Quarter-Max/RJ Stratus) 0.017 6.646 207.88
 (L) Allen Johnson (Mopar/J & J Racing Stratus) -0.005(R) 6.608 209.46
Glidden's back over on the right side.

Now that's something you don't see very often. Johnson goes red and negates an otherwise winning pass.

 (W) Greg Stanfield (Attitude Apparel GXP) 0.026 6.586 209.72
 (L) Dave Northrop (Nitro Fish Wear Stratus) 0.056 6.663 207.27
Stanfield posted career best numbers in locking up the top spot here. His mph is a Gateway Internation record for Pro Stock.

David Nickens is in a Nitro Fish uniform watching Northrop stage.

Stanfield shows a lot of composure and just smoothly holds off the charge from the Stratus in the other lane.

 (W) Justin Humphreys (RaceRedi Motorsports GXP) -0.005 6.678 207.24
 (L) Mike Edwards (Young Life/Penhall GXP) -0.018(R) 6.590 209.69
This is turning into a very unusual round. Edwards redlights!

The fifteenth qualifier will be returning.

 (W) Kurt Johnson (AC Delco Cobalt) 0.011 6.639 209.46
 (L) Steve Spiess (Spiess Construction Cobalt) 0.064 6.678 207.24
Kurt has always done well here, considering that in the 13 previous races here he's qualified in the top half of the field 10 times. He has three victories here, in 1998, 2005, and last year.

Will he be the next one bitten by the redlight bug?

Nope, too many laps for the wily KJ to slip up on that one. The race is the best of the session so far.

Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.797, 660ft-4.285/165.92 mph, 1,000ft-5.563.

 (W) Greg Anderson (Summit Racing Equipment GXP) 0.051 6.584 210.05
 (L) Rodger Brogdon (Charter GXP) 0.065 6.625 209.30
Brogdon has certainly stepped up to the big time as his opponent was champion here in 2004 and has 3 runners up to go with the win.

He stages the Charter car on the right side since Anderson chose the left side like every other PS racer holding lane choice.

Brogdon doesn't win but underlines the fact that his team is one to be considered. They leave together and Anderson slowly opens a lead as they go down the quarter mile.

Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.992 sec., 330ft-2.763, 660ft-4.239/166.81 mph, 1,000ft-5.511.
Rodger Brogdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.785, 660ft-4.271/166.05 mph, 1,000ft-5.549.

Next round, Stanfield has lane choice over Coughlin, Anderson over Jones, Krisher over Humphreys, and Line over Kurt Johnson.

Results for Elimination Round 2
MADISON, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Castrol:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Justin Humphreys (RaceRedi Motorsports GXP) 0.017 6.632 207.53
 (L) Ron Krisher (Valvoline Cobalt) 0.009 7.097 158.26
Krisher has multiple wins here, but young Mr. Humphreys is likely to try to settle the race on the starting line.

Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 39 percent, barometer 29.48 inches, adjusted altitude 1,644 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

Krisher isn't having any part of that as he welds Justin to the tree, but encounters what looked to be mechanical problems down track and has to watch the GXP streak to the win in the other lane.

 (W) Jason Line (Summit Racing Equipment GXP) 0.020 6.578 210.24
 (L) Kurt Johnson (AC Delco Cobalt) 0.018 6.586 209.20
One of the feared Summit armada pulls to the line against a car that's been very quick lately. KJ has been making big power and better runs.

Both cars were straight as a string and produce a classic Pro Stock race. The big Summit power makes the difference in the last 100 feet.

Jason Line's MOV: 0.0067 seconds (approximately 2 feet).

Jason Line's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.004), 330 ft(-0.006), 660ft(-0.001), 1,000ft(0.003). MOV: 0.0067 seconds (approximately 2 feet).

Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.758, 660ft-4.233/166.93 mph, 1,000ft-5.506.
Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.983 sec., 330ft-2.754, 660ft-4.234/166.23 mph, 1,000ft-5.511.

Line will have lane choice over Humpreys in the semifinals.

 (W) Jeg Coughlin (Jegs.com Cobalt) 0.004 6.594 208.39
 (L) Greg Stanfield (Attitude Apparel GXP) 0.010 6.603 208.39
The Pro Stock drivers are loving the tree this session but you have to feel for Greg right about now. He cuts a tremendous light and is the last to vacate the starting line.

Jeg Coughlin's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.001), 330 ft(-0.003), 660ft(0.003), 1,000ft(0.010). MOV: 0.0155 seconds (approximately 5 feet).

Jeg Coughlin's MOV: 0.0155 seconds (approximately 5 feet).

Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.764, 660ft-4.246/166.23 mph, 1,000ft-5.524.
Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.998 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.249/166.68 mph, 1,000ft-5.520.

 (W) Greg Anderson (Summit Racing Equipment GXP) 0.018 6.591 209.69
 (L) Rickie Jones (Quarter-Max/RJ Stratus) 0.019 6.656 207.43
Everybody in the house expects Rickie to tree Greg.

They're wrong as Anderson shows he's not ready for the retirement home just yet.

The cars are side by side until the top end where the Hemi falls back and Anderson streaks to the win.

Next round Anderson will have lane choice over Coughlin in what should be a classic matchup.

Bob Frey is saying that this may have been the best display of PS driving skills so far this year. I wouldn't argue that and would bet that next round will be as good as better.

Results for Elimination Round 3
MADISON, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Castrol:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Jeg Coughlin (Jegs.com Cobalt) 0.020 6.593 208.62
 (L) Greg Anderson (Summit Racing Equipment GXP) 0.039 6.575 209.59
3:06 p.m.

Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.47 inches, adjusted altitude 1,623 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

The barometer and thermometer are dropping rapidly as another storm front is moving in. We're in hustle mode to get everything done before it gets here.

It's a battle of the mail order giants and should prove to be as excellent as always. Both cars do their burnouts but Anderson needs to be pushed back behind the line. He's able to stage normally.

The race is as good as we thought it would be as once again Jeggie wins one by letting out the clutch.

Jeg Coughlin's MOV: 0.0011 seconds (approximately 4 inches).

Jeg Coughlin's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.005), 330 ft(0.000), 660ft(-0.001), 1,000ft(0.000). MOV: 0.0011 seconds (approximately 4 inches).

This is some REALLY good stuff and all of you out there shoulda been here to see it in person.

 (W) Jason Line (Summit Racing Equipment GXP) 0.017 6.592 210.11
 (L) Justin Humphreys (RaceRedi Motorsports GXP) 0.016 6.634 208.20
Both cars leave together, and to be brutally honest that is very bad news for Humphreys.

Line moves further away on every gear change and will have lane choice against Coughlin in the final round. It should be just as exciting as all these passes that have led up to it.

Oh, and that lane choice? It was decided by one thousandth of a second. You have to love Pro Stock.

Results for Final Round
MADISON, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 4 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 13th annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Castrol:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Jeg Coughlin (Jegs.com Cobalt) 0.024 6.588 208.39
 (L) Jason Line (Summit Racing Equipment GXP) -0.002(R) 6.578 210.34
Line is 12 - 10 against Coughlin in prior events and Coughlin is 2 - 1 against Line in prior final rounds.

Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 44 percent, barometer 29.47 inches, adjusted altitude 1,623 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

Good thing that betting is illegal here in Illinois as this pair would be tough to post odds on. Both teams have strengths - Coughlin on the tree, and Line under the hood.

Line tries too hard and JUST pushes the tree too hard. He runs a very quick pass that's only .04 mph from being a track record, but none of that matters.

Congratulations to Jeg and Roy Simmons, and Steve Cultrera. When you're consistently fast like they've been, good things are going to happen.
