Results for Qualifying Round 1
JOLIET, Ill. - CHICAGO - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: John Lawson Runs 6.459/111.36, Now #1
3:31 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 34 percent, barometer 29.19 inches, adjusted altitude 2,425 feet, track temperature 109 degrees.

Lawson got about 200 feet, started to smoke the tires, and lifted.

Left Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.469/208.68, Now #2
Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 4.271/255.48, Now #1
These two got further, past the 660-foot merker, then started hazing the tires.
Left Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 5.289/143.66, Now #3
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 5.674/123.94, Now #4
Still looking for a full pass - both lost traction around the 660 marker.
Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.767/175.59, Now #4
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.184/289.63, Now #1
Hight's car started smoking the tires before half track, gtting very out of shape before he lifted. Neff gave us ourr first full pass, the car straight and smoke-free.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.833/162.57, Now #6
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.191/281.30, Now #2
Pedregon was off to a better start, but lifted before half track. Force almost matched Neff's run, with better early numbers, but his car started moving around a lot in the final 200 feet.
Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.213/287.47, Now #3
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.244/288.03, Now #4
Both runs looked better than the numbers that came up - perhaps the crew chiefs softened them up a bit after watching the earlier runs go up in smoke.
Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.171/288.70, Now #1
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.364/232.11, Now #7
Wilkerson nwent to the top of the pack with a clean, straight pass. Beckman stayed close to the 660-goot marker, then his car started spinning the tires and dancing around.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.118/300.66, Now #1
Right Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 4.377/215.68, Now #9
Pedregon made a very nice run, the first 300 mph run in awhile. Force Hood was close to 660 feet, then started spinning the tires and losing ground.

Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.898 sec., 330ft-2.325, 660ft-3.312/260.81 mph.

Ashley Force Hood's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.349, 660ft-3.357/243.37 mph.

Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 6.537/96.49, Now #17
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.879/161.32, Now #13
Last pair. Both found the going tough, Worsham lifting around the 330-foot marker, Capps around half track.

Results for Qualifying Round 2
JOLIET, Ill. - CHICAGO - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Justin Schriefer Runs 4.669/210.31, Now #12
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.669/253.47, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.537/96.49, Was #17
7:23 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 37 percent, barometer 29.16 inches, adjusted altitude 2,500 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

Schriefer is making his NHRA debut, in the Creasy Family Racing Funny Car. Worsham smoked the tires, pedaled, hazed them again, pedaled again. mwanwhile, Schriefer made a decent run to 660 feet, then slowed. They ended up with identical ETs, Worsham ahead on the ladder because of speed. Both are in danger of being bumped.

Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.205/295.53, Now #5
Best prior run: 5.674/123.94, Was #17
Right Lane: John Lawson Runs 4.315/281.30, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.459/111.36, Was #18
Good, straight runs in both lanes, but lawson's car started showing "wacky orange" header flames around the 660-foot mark. That bumped Schriefer and Worsham. Now Bob Bode is on the bump spot at 4.469.
Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.321/227.65, Now #10
Best prior run: 4.879/161.32, Was #17
Right Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 4.996/217.84, Now #18
Best prior run: 5.289/143.66, Was #18
Capps was on a good run to about the 660-foot marker, then the car got sideways and moved out of the groove, spinning the tires. Toliver's problems came much earlier, hazing the tires before half track and then losing traction. Capps edged into the field, bumping Bode. Toliver will have to start over tomorrow.
Left Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 4.125/292.46, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.377/215.68, Was #12
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.200/280.78, Now #6
Best prior run: 4.833/162.57, Was #17
Force Hood ended up on the bump spot when Capps bumped into the field. She recified that situation with a nice run, losing a little ET and speed when the car started moving around on the top end. Pedregon trailed from the start and steadily lost ground, but still made a solid move into the middle of the porvisional field. That put Capps on the bump and Jack Beckman on the outside.
Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.323/266.48, Now #14
Best prior run: 4.364/232.11, Was #13
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.202/270.92, Now #7
Best prior run: 4.767/175.59, Was #17
Capps and Lawson were in jeopardy here, in the last two positions of the twelve-car field and already done for the day.

Hight made a solid run to bump Capps and Beckman lost a lot of time early in his run, leaving him on the outside. The Safety Safari then went to work in both lanes.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 5.608/108.41, Now #12
Best prior run: 4.271/255.48, Was #11
Right Lane: Bob Bode Runs 4.175/291.70, Now #4
Best prior run: 4.469/208.68, Was #15
7:52 p.m. Bode was the last driver in line with a shot at bumping Lawson from the provisional field. The track temperature is now falling, down to 87.

Bode made a very nice run, all the way up to #4. Meanwhile Head had a big supercharger explosion about 400 feet out, the chutes automatically deploying, but the Safety Safari stayed put. Head takes over the bump spot, but there's nobody left in line who can bump him.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.160/298.60, Now #4
Best prior run: 4.244/288.03, Was #11
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.125/300.86, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.213/287.47, Was #10
Two nice runs, a pretty side-by-side show, and both drivers move up to the top part of the field.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.912 sec., 330ft-2.359, 660ft-3.348/258.81 mph.
Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.903 sec., 330ft-2.328, 660ft-3.314/258.81 mph.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.124/303.37, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.191/281.30, Was #8
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 6.053/109.53, Now #6
Best prior run: 4.171/288.70, Was #5
The track is now completely shaded, which should improve conditions for the rest of the floppers and set up a good second session for the Top Fuel dragsters.

Wilkerson started spinning the tires about 300 feet out and he lifted. Force kept them hooked up all the way and moved up to the #2 spot.

John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.897 sec., 330ft-2.328, 660ft-3.317/258.22 mph.

Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.110/305.08, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.184/289.63, Was #8
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.089/304.39, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.118/300.66, Was #1
Last pair. And it was the best pair of the round. Pedregon took over the #1 spot and Neff recorded top speed of the meet so far, taking over the second spot.

Mike Neff's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.324, 660ft-3.308/260.01 mph.
Tony Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.893 sec., 330ft-2.316, 660ft-3.292/264.08 mph.

That's it for the floppers, the long cars are next.
