Dave Northrop is on the bump spot at 6.688.

Schmidt's first run was DQ'ed, not sure why (it's usually contaminated fuel or weight). He made a good second run, but did not make the twelve-car cutoff.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.709/208.10, Now #15
Best prior run: 14.170/58.77, Was #25

Morgan's car made several big moves on the launch.
Left Lane: David Beckley Runs 6.680/207.37, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.754/207.78, Was #21

Best prior run: 6.720/207.66, Was #20
WJ's car also waggled its tail on the launch, didn't improve much. Beckley made a very nice run, but won't get to keep it.
Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.673/206.80, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.674/206.54, Was #12

KJ didn't waggle and he ran low ET of the round so far. He'll get to keep that one. Now Ronnie Humphrey is on the bump spot at 6.671.
Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.683/207.05, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.671/207.05, Was #12

Best prior run: 6.713/205.38, Was #21
Gaines improved, but not enough to make the cut. Humphrey failed to improve, stays on the bump spot - but only Dave Northrop has a shot at bumping him out now.
Left Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.662/207.02, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.665/206.92, Was #10

Northrop's car got out of the groove about 200 feet out and he failed to improve enough to move up the list. Jones also improved slightly, also no enough to do him any good.
Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.629/208.04, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.656/207.91, Was #9
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.657/207.72, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.667/207.69, Was #11
The remaining cars are already in the 12-car provisional field.

Nice run by Brogdon, with a great 60-foot time, and he moved well into the top half of the field. Humphreys also improved, moved up one spot.

Rodger Brogdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.979 sec., 330ft-2.767, 660ft-4.259/164.81 mph, 1,000ft-5.545.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.622/208.59, Now #3

Best prior run: 6.656/208.04, Was #9
Line's car spun the right rear and tried to turn hard right, forcing him to lift. AJ went right down the track and moved up four spots, taking low ET of the session honors away from KJ.

Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.763, 660ft-4.254/165.05 mph, 1,000ft-5.539.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.587/209.88, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.617/210.08, Was #2

Best prior run: 6.639/208.42, Was #8
Okay, everybody step back a couple steps. Edwards made a great run, eclipsing every run so far today.

Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.983 sec., 330ft-2.771, 660ft-4.237/166.39 mph, 1,000ft-5.512.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.644/208.94, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.616/208.55, Was #2

Best prior run: 6.623/209.04, Was #4
Coughlin's 60-foot time came up as a leisurely 1.001 and he had no chance of catching Edwards after that. Anderson got things sorted out and made the second-best run of the day.

Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-1.001 sec., 330ft-2.796, 660ft-4.286/165.38 mph, 1,000ft-5.566.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.987 sec., 330ft-2.767, 660ft-4.251/165.80 mph, 1,000ft-5.532.

Results for Qualifying Round 3
JOLIET, Ill. - CHICAGO - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Dave River Runs 7.030/197.36, Now #13
                                  No Prior Run
12:08 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.28 inches, adjusted altitude 2,398 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

I predict River will make the field on this run - of course, there are only twelve "qualified" cars in the sixteen-car field right now. The Pro Stock Motorcycles just finished and nobody ran well, but as we saw last night, that doesn't mean the cars will also be off the pace, and most Pro Stock drivers expected this session to be the best of the weekend.

River came up a little short of his best run yesterday.

Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.666/207.50, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.656/208.04, Was #9
Right Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.783/203.19, Now #13
                                  No Prior Run
Line is already in the field, but had a very bad run in the second session yesterday, so he gets to run early in this session.

Line made a good run, strung together a bunch of sixes (the Devil made me say that).

Left Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 7.042/196.24, Now #16

Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.662/207.72, Now #11
                                  No Prior Run
Krisher made the best run of the session so far and Hogan established the first bump time of the session. That will change.
Left Lane: Dave Northrop Runs 6.694/206.04, Now #14

Both drivers had good 60-foot times, but it appears they were down a bit on top-end power from those speeds.
Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.729/204.45, Now #16
                                  No Prior Run

                                  No Prior Run
Nice run by WJ, with a 0.990 short time, right down the groove. Warren Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.778, 660ft-4.266/165.36 mph, 1,000ft-5.547.

Beckley also made an impressive run - straight, smooth, and (best of all) quick enough to put him well into the field. Northrop is on the bump spot at 6.694.

Left Lane: Ryan Ondrejko Runs 6.658/205.69, Now #12
                                  No Prior Run
Nice run by Ondrejko to move into the field. Now Humphrey is on the bump at 6.671.
Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.697/206.10, Now #18
                                  No Prior Run

Best prior run: 6.662/207.02, Was #15
Wow - Morgan missed the cut. Jones failed to improve and is not safe at 15th.
Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.679/206.32, Now #17
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.620/208.94, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.616/208.55, Was #3
Gaines was not in the top twelve yesterday. He came up short. Coughlin could not quite match his numbers from yesterday on a good-looking run. That should end the bumping for this session.
Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.650/207.82, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.657/207.72, Was #11

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.627/208.20, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.639/208.42, Was #9

Brogdon's car squatted and spun the tires on the launch, posting a leisurely 1.023 60-foot time. Nice pass by Stanfield to move up a couple spots.
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.622/208.10, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.625/208.62, Was #5

AJ had a 0.967 60-foot time. That's unreal! Both drivers trimmed off thousandths, stayed right where they started on the ladder.
Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.612/208.46, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.613/208.78, Was #2

Best prior run: 6.587/209.88, Was #1
Last pair. Anderson made a great run yesterday and Edwards was three hundredths quicker! In Pro Stock, that's an eternity.

So far, Coughlin was low of the round at 6.620. Great runs in both lanes, the two quickest of the session, but once again Edwards was hundredths quicker than Anderson.

Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.975 sec., 330ft-2.761, 660ft-4.248/165.42 mph, 1,000ft-5.530.
Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.766, 660ft-4.245/166.39 mph, 1,000ft-5.521.

Line has been in the finals here three of the last four years, but has not had a good weekend so far this year. Krisher did not have a good day yesterday, made one of the better runs in the first session today.

Krisher spun the tires hard, posted a 1.058 60-foot time, and stayed 15th. Line made the best run nof the session so far and moved up to tenth.

Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.636/207.56, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.627/208.20, Was #7
Stanfield has been very consistent across his three previous runs, just a couple hundredths apart.

Stanfield made another run right in the middle of his other three, best of the session so far. Gray also started to show consistency, his 6.64 right in the middle of his last two - a 6.63 and a 6.66.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.634/206.89, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.629/208.04, Was #8

Best prior run: 6.627/208.81, Was #6
WJ posted a nice 0.987 60-foot time, quick for him, right in the midst of the better runs of the session, and Brogdon was right there with him, starting with a 0.978 short time.
Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 15.057/53.81, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.621/207.53, Was #4
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.627/207.88, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.622/208.10, Was #5
AJ's three runs have been 6.63 and two 6.62s, KJ's a 6.71 and two 6.62s.

AJ shook anjd slowed early, but KJ ran another 6.62 (that's three for him), low of the session so far.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.624/207.88, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.616/208.55, Was #3
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.616/207.88, Now #2

Coughlin joined the 6.62 set, but Anderson reset low ET of the session in the other lane.
Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.591/208.71, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.587/209.88, Was #1
And the only driver in the six-fifties this weekend is...this guy. Edwards has been in a zone of his own, his worst run (a 6.617) almost as good as Anderson's best of this session. Once again, Edwards drives a stake into the hearts of the other fifteen drivers in the field, alone in the fifties for the third time in four qualifying sessions.

Anderson is 15-10 against Stanfield, but it's all even at 3-3 in round two matches.

Bad break for Stanfield, his car pushed away after the burnout after being a model of consistency all weekend. Anderson sailed down the groove with no apparent problems.

 (L) Allen Johnson (Mopar/J & J Racing Stratus) 0.034 6.642 206.73

Jeg Coughlin's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.013), 330 ft(-0.009), 660ft(-0.004), 1,000ft(0.000). MOV: 0.0054 seconds (approximately 20 inches).

Results for Final Round
JOLIET, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 4 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Jeg Coughlin (Jegs.com Cobalt) 0.016 6.663 207.30
 (L) Mike Edwards (A.R.T./Young Life GXP) -0.021(R) 6.709 204.48
5:47 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 58 percent, barometer 29.17 inches, adjusted altitude 2,941 feet, track temperature 92 degrees.

Coughlin is 18 - 8 against Edwards in prior events, but only 2 - 1 against Edwards in prior final rounds.

Edwards has shown a two to three hundredths performance advantage in all three rounds today, so he had to be the favorite in this final round, as long as he stayed within a couple hundredths of Coughlin on the tree.

Edwards went red and Coughlin pulls off a magic act, running exactly the same ET he ran in the semifinals. Unbelievable!
