Todd is in David Baca's Mach 1 car this weekend. He went right down the track, nothing spectacular, but the team should be able to tune from that pass. Cullinan lost a l,ot of time in the early part of the run with tire shake and had to pedal at least once.

Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.461/289.01, Now #4
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 3.946/309.98, Now #1
Fuller's return was reasonably successful, the car making a clean, straight run. Novelli's car gave up a lot early in the run .
Left Lane: C. Karamesines Runs 4.401/224.10, Now #5
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.976/292.84, Now #2
According to Bob Frey, "The Greek" finally admitted to being eighty years old...gee, what a surprise. He had a poretty good "boomer' here, the engien aflame well into the shutdown area. Buff made a good opening pass, right down the groove.
Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.023/291.57, Now #5
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.953/294.88, Now #2

Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.923/305.49, Now #1
Massey started hazing the tires about 400 feet out. Langdon made a nice-looking pass, no visible problems whatever.
Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.425/226.58, Now #10
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.721/156.83, Now #12

Right Lane: B. Bernstein Runs 6.655/95.50, Now #15
Bernstein lost traction before the 330-foot marker, but Dixon's team appears to have found the sweet spot - he went smoothly down the groove and into the top spot.
Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 4.359/190.22, Now #10
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.848/311.34, Now #1

JOLIET, Ill. - CHICAGO - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: B. Bernstein Runs 4.717/155.92, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.655/95.50, Was #17
Right Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 4.065/276.69, Now #9
Best prior run: 7.256/90.03, Was #18
Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 37 percent, barometer 29.16 inches, adjusted altitude 2,500 feet, track temperature 84 degrees.

Chris Karamesines is on the bump spot at 4.401. That won't last long with these improved conditions.

hartley moved into the field, but bernstein struck the tires for the second time today.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.925/306.33, Now #4
Best prior run: 4.791/156.35, Was #18
Right Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.314/227.00, Now #11
Best prior run: 4.461/289.01, Was #15
Good run by Kalitta to bump into the field. Novelli also nudged in, but his time may not hold up. Now Tim Cullinan is on the bump spot at 4.330.
Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.574/222.62, Now #17
Best prior run: 4.721/156.83, Was #18
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.875/305.56, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.425/226.58, Was #16
Cory Mac lost traction, pedaled, smoked 'em again, blew it up (looked like a head gasket), and moved up one spot, still well out of the provisional field. Meanwhile, Lucas made an excellent run, moving all the way up to the second spot.
Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.311/192.82, Now #9
Best prior run: 4.006/293.73, Was #9
Lucas' run put Novelli on the bump spot at 4.314. Todd was already in and failed to improve, losing traction before half track.
Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 5.304/134.30, Now #9
Best prior run: 3.976/292.84, Was #8
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.888/310.41, Now #3
Best prior run: 4.381/189.90, Was #15
Massey was one of the drivers with a shot at bumping Novelli from the field. Buff was already safely in, but seeking lane choice for eliminations.

Buff lost traction about 200 feet out. Massey made a very nice run, second-best of the session so far, bumping Novelli. That puts Joe Hartley on the bump spot at 4.065.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.901/310.20, Now #5
Best prior run: 3.953/294.88, Was #8
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.826/317.94, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.359/190.22, Was #15
Millican was safely in the field, but Brown had a shot at bumping Hartley.

Two nice runs, Brown all the way up to first with a huge speed.

Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.865 sec., 330ft-2.185, 660ft-3.118/269.67 mph.
Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.851 sec., 330ft-2.154, 660ft-3.063/277.15 mph.

That bumped Hartley, putting Terry Haddock on the bump spot at 4.023.

Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 3.889/312.78, Now #5
Best prior run: 3.946/309.98, Was #9
Right Lane: Tim Cullinan Runs 6.254/104.65, Now #15
Best prior run: 4.330/301.13, Was #15
Cullinan was the last car in line with a shot at bumping Haddock, who was lined up right behind him.

Nope, Cullinan's header flames were extremely orange and went out in the first 300 feet. Nice run by Fuller to move around Millican in the order.

That shoud end the bumping for today, but there are still two pairs of cars to try to shuffle the field again.

Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.881/311.27, Now #4
Best prior run: 3.923/305.49, Was #8
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.051/287.23, Now #12
Best prior run: 4.023/291.57, Was #12
Langdon made a nice run ands he is now #4. Haddock failed to improve, so he stays in twelfth - and could be bumped from the 16-car field tomorrow.
Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.864/310.20, Now #2
Best prior run: 3.848/311.34, Was #2
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.857/301.54, Now #3
Best prior run: 3.911/307.65, Was #8
Last pair, and it was a good one, but Brown stayed #1, Schumacher stayed #2, and Dixon moved back up to the #3 spot, right behind Schumacher again.

That's it for today. Tomorrow is scheduled to be a busy day, with two more rounds of qualifying for the professional categories and the Sportsman All Star competition.

Results for Qualifying Round 3
JOLIET, Ill. - CHICAGO - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 5.385/174.12, Now #14
                                  No Prior Run
12:45 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 53 percent, barometer 29.28 inches, adjusted altitude 2,398 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

Zizzo did not make a pass yesterday, so we now have 19 Top Fuel cars in competition for 16 starting spots.

Zizzo smoked the tires early, and often, pedaling his way to the finish line - "just in case."

Left Lane: C. Karamesines Runs 4.878/189.15, Now #14
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 3.907/293.35, Now #9
Best prior run: 3.976/292.84, Was #10
Buff had problems on his second run yesterday, so got an "early draw" this round, even though he's already in the field.

Buff made his best run of the weekend and moved one rung up the ladder. Karamesines lit it up big time, the engine in flames before he cleared the paint at the starting line and fully involved most of the way down the track. It was big, it was hot, and it was juicy. We will be down awhile for a major cleanup, not exactly what we needed with the possibility of a weather interruption predicted later this afternoon.

Left Lane: Tim Cullinan Runs 4.139/285.47, Now #14
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: B. Bernstein Runs 3.927/298.60, Now #11
Best prior run: 4.717/155.92, Was #13
1:06 p.m. Back to racing...Bernstein had two tire smokers yesterday. he managed to keep them stuck today, but was spinning the tires on the top end and crossed the line in a full "drift," the car getting very sideways before he lifted. It wasn't pretty, but it counts.
Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.090/289.32, Now #15
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.894/305.15, Now #8
                                  No Prior Run
Cory Mac has also struggled this weekend, oh-for-two yesterday. But he'll like this one - not a career-best by any means, but it was a clean, straight run with absolutely no visible problems. Novelli also got down the track, but his car was mixing up cylinders and may have been hazing the tires on the top end.
Left Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 4.049/283.91, Now #15
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.007/297.22, Now #13
Best prior run: 4.006/293.73, Was #13
Hartley just missed the 12-car field yesterday, so he had to start over again today. Todd got to keep his four-flat run from yesterday, almost duplicated it again on this run. Hartley made another safe, full pass, with no real problems visible from here.
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta No Time, Now #11
Best prior run: 3.925/306.33, Was #9
Kalitta made his burnout, backed up, and was about to stage when he was signaled to shut it off because a light rain was falling. The rain got harder, the stands cleared, and the Kalitta team headed back to the pits to reservice the car. We are on hold. 1:18 p.m.
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.921/302.28, Now #11
Best prior run: 3.925/306.33, Was #9
2:33 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 74 degrees, relative humidity 59 percent, barometer 29.20 inches, adjusted altitude 2,496 feet, track temperature 87 degrees.

The rain never got very heavy and track drying only took about half an hour once it stopped sprinkling. Kalitta's car came back from the pits just a few minutes ago and he will pick up where he left off, following his second burnout.

Not bad, slightly quicker than his run yesterday, with no signs of trouble anywhere during the run.

Left Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.889/299.06, Now #6
Best prior run: 3.888/310.41, Was #6
Right Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.905/292.01, Now #9
Best prior run: 3.901/310.20, Was #9
Nice side-by-side show for the Saturday crowd - neither driver improved, both ran within a few thousandths of their best Friday run.

Left Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 3.948/296.63, Now #4
Best prior run: 3.875/305.56, Was #4
Right Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 3.915/304.25, Now #7
Best prior run: 3.889/312.78, Was #7
Looks like everybody is checking their raceday setup today - nice runs, not record-setting, but straight and "safe."
Left Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.862/302.82, Now #3
Best prior run: 3.857/301.54, Was #3
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.872/308.43, Now #4
Best prior run: 3.881/311.27, Was #5
Langdon actually stepped up a few thousandths, moved up one rung on the ladder, while Dixon was a few thousandths slower than yesterday. Again, very straight, smooth, safe runs.
Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.860/314.68, Now #1
Best prior run: 3.826/317.94, Was #1
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.864/304.67, Now #2
Best prior run: 3.848/311.34, Was #2
Last pair. They stayed 1-2 through the session, had nothing to lose by taking a shot.

Nice runs, side-by-side and just a few thousandths apart on the scoreboards. Brown got there first, with a better light and a slightly quicker run.

Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.843 sec., 330ft-2.168, 660ft-3.088/273.88 mph.
Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.150, 660ft-3.077/272.39 mph.

Brown was quickest of the session, with Dixon and Schumacher right on his heels.

Results for Qualifying Round 4
JOLIET, Ill. - CHICAGO - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 4.553/170.99, Now #18
Best prior run: 5.385/174.12, Was #19
Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 29.18 inches, adjusted altitude 2,513 feet, track temperature 98 degrees.

Zizzo got to about half track and the candles went out. Luigi Novelli is on the bump spot at 4.090, by the way.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.947/302.35, Now #13
Best prior run: 4.006/293.73, Was #13
Nice improvement for Todd, but he stayed thirteenth in the order.
Left Lane: B. Bernstein Runs 4.046/292.08, Now #12
Best prior run: 3.927/298.60, Was #12
Right Lane: Tim Cullinan Runs 4.204/281.13, Now #17
Best prior run: 4.139/285.47, Was #17
Cullinan was the last driver in line with a chance to bump Novelli, Chris Karamesines not in the lanes for this session.

There were flashes of flame from both cars' engine compartments on the top end, but Bernstein was already in the field. Bernstein had a cylinder out from the start, it looked like he pushed out a head gasket. Cullinan came up short and that put an end to the chances of any bumping in this session.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.911/301.60, Now #11
Best prior run: 3.921/302.28, Was #11
Novelli was supposed to run beside Kalitta, but pulled out of line when Cullinan failed to bump him.

Nice pass by Kalitta, a hundredth better than his earlier run today, but the field stayed the same.

Left Lane: Troy Buff Runs 4.005/286.86, Now #10
Best prior run: 3.907/293.35, Was #10
Right Lane: Joe Hartley Runs 4.000/296.37, Now #14
Best prior run: 4.049/283.91, Was #15
Side-by-side all the way, 4.00 on both scoreboards. Hartley improved just enough to move up one spot, but Terry Haddock could return the favor and he's lined up right behind Hartley.
Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.854/310.13, Now #3
Best prior run: 3.901/310.20, Was #9
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.217/280.78, Now #15
Best prior run: 4.023/291.57, Was #15
These two had to sit and wait a bit, Hartley apparently leaving some "stuff" on the top end of the right lane, starting at the finish line.

Haddock lost a lot of time early in the run, but Millican ran a career-best 1,000-foot ET to move all the way up to third on the ladder with a nice, straight, clean pass.

Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.149, 660ft-3.074/272.56 mph.

Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.945/306.60, Now #9
Best prior run: 3.894/305.15, Was #9
Right Lane: Spencer Massey Runs 3.997/281.95, Now #7
Best prior run: 3.888/310.41, Was #7
Both drivers lost a tenth from their runs earlier today and the ladder stayed the same.
Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 4.952/144.38, Now #8
Best prior run: 3.889/312.78, Was #8
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.037/286.62, Now #6
Best prior run: 3.875/305.56, Was #6
Fuller started hazing the tires and lifted around half track. There was a bright green flash from Lucas' engine around the same point, he continued his run.
Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.895/309.42, Now #5
Best prior run: 3.872/308.43, Was #5
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.843/310.84, Now #2
Best prior run: 3.857/301.54, Was #4
Good runs in both lanes, Dixon moving back around Millican and Tony Schumacher to retake the second spot. Langdon did not improve, but he has made four good runs so far this weekend and both drivers are in good shape for tomorrow's eliminations.
Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.836/311.99, Now #2
Best prior run: 3.848/311.34, Was #3
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 5.063/134.87, Now #1
Best prior run: 3.826/317.94, Was #1
Last pair. Schumacher just got nudged down to third by Dixon, probably had designs on the top spot that Brown took away from him yesterday.

Brown lost traction about 300 feet out. Schumacher made a nice run to move back around Dixon and into the second spot, but he came up a hundredth short of Brown's run yesterday evening and will have to settle for the second spot on the ladder. So far this year, Schumacher has started from no worse than sixth and has been in one of the top three spots for the past four races. Not bad for a team that was supposed to suffer a crushing loss when crew chief Alan Johnson left to form his own team.

Results for Elimination Round 1
JOLIET, Ill. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 12th annual United Association Route 66 NHRA Nationals:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Rod Fuller (Patten Caterpillar Dragster) 0.059 3.885 310.84
 (L) Cory McClenathan (Valvoline/Fram Dragster) 0.091 3.861 313.37
12:36 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 72 degrees, relative humidity 71 percent, barometer 29.19 inches, adjusted altitude 2,443 feet, track temperature 81 degrees.

The schedule has been shuffled by the morning rain. The teams are still on "normal turnaround." However, if all the teams are ready in less than the allotted 75 minutes, they will run them out of sequence.

Cory Mac holds a 7-3 record against Fuller, 5-3 in first round meetings. However, McClenathan struggled friday and this race should be considered a tossup.

The track crew did a great job with the track preparation and this was a good race to start things off. Fuller Gets a holeshot victory in hs first round of competition this year. Rod Fuller's incremental margins: 60ft(0.008), 330 ft(0.018), 660ft(0.013). MOV: 0.0087 seconds (approximately 4 feet).

 (W) Brandon Bernstein (Budweiser/Lucas Oil Drag 0.052 3.918 308.78
 (L) Shawn Langdon (Lucas Oil/Dixie Chopper Drag 0.077 5.071 135.29
This is only the second time Bernstein and Langdon have squared off, the first time they have met in the first round. Bernstein won when they met in the second round, at Gainesville.

Langdon was second off the line, but started to close the gap. Then his car started falling off the pace and sent silent well before the stripe. Bernstein notched his 200th round win going away.

 (W) Antron Brown (Matco Tools Direct TV Dragste 0.073 3.879 314.83
 (L) Luigi Novelli (National Machine Repair Drag 0.125 4.176 267.85
This is the first time Brown and Novelli have ever raced each other.

Brown was away first and thundered away from Novelli, Novelli's car unable to match #1-qualifier Brown's pace. Brown will have lane choice against Fuller in round two.

 (W) Clay Millican (MPE Motorsports Dragster) 0.076 3.891 306.33
 (L) J.R. Todd (Mach 1/Global Services Dragster) 0.064 3.910 306.81
Millican is 2-1 against Todd, all in the first round.

Todd might be in a "borrowed car" (he's subbing for David Baca this weekend) and in his first race of the season, but he made a race out of it, right there should Millican make a misstep. But he didn't. Clay Millican's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.003), 330 ft(0.000), 660ft(0.010). MOV: 0.0077 seconds (approximately 3 feet). Millican will have lane choice against Bernstein in the quarterfinals.

 (W) Terry Haddock (Dragster) 0.135 3.974 300.53
 (L) Tony Schumacher (U.S. Army Dragster) 0.102 4.600 202.79
Schumacher has won both times he has raced Haddock, both those wins coming in the first round.

Wow! Schumacher was very consistent through four rounds of qualifying this weekend, while Haddock struggled just to make the field. But "they don't race on paper." Schumacher started smoking the tires about 400 feet out. Haddock made his best run of the weekend, snapping Schumacher's first-round win streak at 35 and winning going away.

 (W) Larry Dixon (Al-Anabi Racing Dragster) 0.049 3.889 309.98
 (L) Joe Hartley (Aeromotive Dragster) 0.101 3.974 304.94
Dixon holds a 3-1 edge against Hartley, 2-1 in the first round.

This one went according to form, Dixon with a very good light and a very good run. Hartley did his job, but Dixon is moving on.

 (W) Morgan Lucas (Geico Powersport/ Lucas Oil D 0.078 3.856 310.13
 (L) Doug Kalitta (Kalitta M'Spts No. 50 Dragste 0.089 4.270 259.81
Kalitta holds a 6-5 edge against Lucas, but they have evenly split in four prior first-round matchups.

This was close for about 400 feet, then Kalitta started losing traction and Lucas pulled away for a surprisingly easy win. He made his best run of the weekend, ran low ET of the round and will have lane choice against Dixon in round two.

 (W) Spencer Massey (US Smokeless Dragster) 0.063 3.862 308.85
 (L) Troy Buff (Bill Miller Racing/Okuma Dragste 0.085 3.935 299.80
Massey defeated Buff in their only prior meeting, at Atlanta this year.

Good drag race, but Massey was away first and never headed, winning by over a car length. Massey will have lane choice against Haddock in round two.

 (L) Morgan Lucas (Geico Powersport/ Lucas Oil D 0.130 4.007 297.35
Dixon holds an 8-3 record against Lucas, 3-1 in round two.

Both cars were smoking at the stripe, but Dixon took a huge starting line advantage and held on for the win. Lucas' car dropped a cylinder early. Dixon's car started smoking around half track, but it didn't appear to affect the performance very much, though his speed dropped off by almost 20 mph from his first round run.

 (W) Spencer Massey (US Smokeless Dragster) 0.049 3.871 306.95
 (L) Terry Haddock (Dragster) 0.090 4.004 293.66

4:23 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 62 percent, barometer 29.14 inches, adjusted altitude 2,858 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

This is a repeat of a semifinals matchup last Sunday, at Topeka. That was the first time these two have faced each other in eliminations, Massey now the driver in the Don Prudhomme-owned US Smokeless Dragster Dixon drove for several years. Dixon won that one enroute to his first event win in the Al-Anabi dragster.

Massey evened the tally here, leaving first and never headed. Massey was solidly in the lead even before Dixon's car began dropping cylinders and slowing around half track.

 (W) Antron Brown (Matco Tools Direct TV Dragste 0.072 3.871 309.70

Brown is 2-0 against Millican. This is the first time they have ever met in the semifinals. Millican was in the finals last weekend, losing to Dixon.

Millican left first, but lost traction about 200 feet out and it will be Brown, with lane choice, against Massey in the finals here.

This was a great drag race, Massey with a small starting line advantage, Brown taking the lead by 330 feet, Massey moving back in front by half track, and close all the way. Spencer Massey's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.004), 330 ft(-0.009), 660ft(0.008). MOV: 0.0202 seconds (approximately 9 feet). That's Massey's first win, in his second final round - it won't be his last.
