(W) Frank Manzo (Lucas Motor Oil Monte Carlo) 0.055 5.547 261.12
(L) DJ Cox (Firebird) 0.050 9.551 100.13
3:36 p.m. - Cox launched and slowed right away.
(W) Jay Payne (FireIce/Valvoline Mustang) 0.091 5.547 259.96
(L) Marc White (Cindrich & Sheetz Racing Mustan 0.061 6.109 173.03
White got out of the gate first and was leading at 330 feet. He started to slow and at mid track, something broke because there was a flash of fire and a puff of smoke from underneath the car. Payne will move on to the next round.
(W) Tony Bartone (Centre Pointe Collision Ford 0.077 5.546 259.01
(L) Marty Nothstein (Permatex/Texas Roadhouse I 0.069 5.621 257.87
Nothstein was quicker coming off the starting line but Bartone got by him for the lead before they reached the 60-foot marker. At the end of the race, the chutes did not open on Nothstein's car. Nothstein hit the brakes hard and the car bounced as he tried to get it stopped. The car went into the sand trap and turned sideways as it hit the catch net. When the car hit the net, it turned over, then flipped back up on its wheels. Nothstein got out of the car right away and was walking around the shutdown area. Bartone got the win and won lane choice over Manzo by 0.001 seconds. We'll be in a delay for a while while Nothstein's car is removed from the sand trap and the nets are reset.
(W) Alexis De Joria (Tequila Patron Mustang) 0.101 5.555 260.06
(L) Fred Tigges (Tigges Racing Avenger) 0.034 10.094 76.88
We're back racing after a 40-minute delay to get Nothstein's car out of the sand and reset the catch necks. Tigges launched and his car got out of the groove, so he got off the throttle before he reached the 330 foot marker. De Joria was trailing at 60 feet but got by Tigges shortly afterward. As De Joria's car crossed the finish line, she let the chutes out. The chutes blossomed and came off the car. De Joria's car continued through the shutdown area and hit the first two safety nets and three rows of water barrels. De Joria was out of the car quickly and was walking around, so she appears to be okay. She got the win and is slated to race Payne in the semi-final round but her car sustained heavy front-end damage. We're back in another delay while the Safety Safari gets De Joria's car out of the sand and resets the nets again.
