Results for Qualifying Round 2NORWALK, Ohio - NORWALK - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Third annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Left Lane: Michael Manners Runs 5.343/264.49, Now #1 Best prior run: 13.795/81.11, Was #23 Right Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.368/262.95, Now #2 Best prior run: 5.551/250.83, Was #76:05 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 3,298 feet, track temperature 123 degrees.Gene Arrigoni is on the bump spot at 5.689.
These two usually get to come out later in the order, but both had bad runs in the first session. They recovered nicely, going from last and next-to-last to #1 and #2 on nice, straight, smooth runs. McPhillips was quicker over the first half of the track, but Manners was quicker and faster on the top half. Now Darren Nicholson is on the bump spot at 5.634.
Michael Manners' incremental times: 60ft-0.967 sec., 330ft-2.462, 660ft-3.567/226.13 mph, 1,000ft-4.512.

Good run by Weber, his best of the year. Now John Finke is on the bump spot at 5.627.Left Lane: Dave Hill Runs 6.071/249.86, Now #21 Best prior run: 6.531/224.25, Was #22 Right Lane: Gene Arrigoni Runs 5.579/244.16, Now #14 Best prior run: 5.689/246.75, Was #18Hill's car had a cylinder or two out and he struggled down the track - better than before, but not quick enough. Nice pass by Arigoni to bump back into the field. Now Todd Odom is on the bump spot at 5.625.Left Lane: Tim Bowgren Runs 5.566/250.23, Now #13 Best prior run: 6.159/223.95, Was #22 Right Lane: Darren Nicholson Runs 5.518/256.60, Now #7 Best prior run: 5.634/254.33, Was #18Two clean, straight runs and the field shuffles once again. Nicholson goes all the way to the top half of the field. Now Gene Arrigoni is back on the bump spot at 5.579.Left Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.832/254.33, Now #20 Best prior run: 5.981/249.39, Was #21 Right Lane: John Finke Runs 5.590/254.81, Now #18 Best prior run: 5.627/244.29, Was #19These two should get back in and shuffle the field again.Nope, Veale's car struggled and he came up way short. Finke improved slightly, but also missed the cut. Two good cars, but they are bpoth down to one more chance to qualify, and that will be in the middle of the day tomorrow.
Left Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.769/226.05, Now #20 Best prior run: 5.977/226.89, Was #21 Right Lane: Todd Odom Runs 5.449/251.30, Now #7 Best prior run: 5.625/209.33, Was #19Dreher's car dropped a cylinder early and was hurting itself on the top end. Odom's car was very quick early, but started falling off the pace on the top end. He still managed to move into the field and in the top half. Now Courtney Force is on the bump spot at 5.574.Left Lane: Bill Evans Runs 5.517/259.61, Now #8 Best prior run: 5.570/259.76, Was #15 Right Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 6.302/219.97, Now #18 Best prior run: 5.590/256.84, Was #18Evans made a good-looking run to squeak into thye top half. Hirata's car struggled from the start, with a sluggish launch and a lackluster run.Left Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.366/266.37, Now #2 Best prior run: 5.556/259.91, Was #12 Right Lane: Courtney Force Runs 5.503/256.60, Now #9 Best prior run: 5.574/257.43, Was #16Force was safe, for now, but there are cars now on the outside fully capable of stepping up and bumping her tomorrow. Reichert was probably safely in the field, but in an unaccustomed spot, in the bottom half of the field. This run looked more like what both teams were looking for, Reichert's car smoothly off the launch pad and solidly in the groove all the way down the track. Force's car was not quite as quick anywhere on the track, but should now be safely in the field for tomorrow's first round of eliminations.
Left Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 5.519/261.88, Now #13 Best prior run: 5.539/260.97, Was #13 Right Lane: Duane Shields Runs 5.491/264.08, Now #9 Best prior run: 5.560/261.72, Was #14Two solid runs - both stayed in the bottom half, but both improved over their first run of the day.Left Lane: Paul Fishburn Runs 5.492/253.18, Now #10 Best prior run: 5.534/255.97, Was #14 Right Lane: Brittany Force Runs 5.415/264.13, Now #5 Best prior run: 5.430/259.36, Was #6There was flash of flame and a puff of smoke from Fishburn's engine about 1,000 feet out. Nice run by Force, improving both ET and speed over her first run of the day.Left Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.417/260.01, Now #6 Best prior run: 5.448/259.51, Was #7 Right Lane: Robin Samsel No Time, Now #4 Best prior run: 5.403/260.71, Was #4Samsel's car pulled to the head of the lanes, but the crew did not fire the engine and they towed it back to the pits. Perry made a nice run to move one rung up the ladder.

Results for Qualifying Round 3NORWALK, Ohio - NORWALK - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, Third annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run: Right Lane: Marty Thacker Runs 5.434/265.17, Now #8 Best prior run: 9.013/85.35, Was #2310:03 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 51 percent, barometer 28.99 inches, adjusted altitude 3,142 feet, track temperature 96 degrees. These are the best conditions these drivers have seen this weekend and therte are several "heavy hitters" still on the outside. Tim Bowgren is on the bump spot at 5.566.
Here's one of them, Thacker plagued by tire shake on his first two runs. Apparently he got it figured out, this was a pretty run, straight and smooth, right down the groove and into the middle of the field. Marty Thacker's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.433, 660ft-3.592/212.96 mph, 1,000ft-4.588.
Now Dave Weber is on the bump spot at 5.561.
Left Lane: John Finke Runs 5.505/263.67, Now #13 Best prior run: 5.590/254.81, Was #20 Right Lane: Dave Hill Runs 6.079/250.92, Now #23 Best prior run: 6.071/249.86, Was #23Finke is another of the "big dogs" who found themselves on the outside yesterday - he is normally one of the quickest cars in the category.Wow. The run looked good, but the numbers are still well off Finke's usual pace. The run did get him in, but thirteenth may not be a safe position. Hill continues to struggle, just about matching his best run yesterday.
Left Lane: Dave Hirata Runs 5.609/256.06, Now #20 Best prior run: 5.590/256.84, Was #20 Right Lane: Jeff Veale Runs 5.855/251.49, Now #22 Best prior run: 5.832/254.33, Was #22Here two more 5.30's cars, on the outside so far this weekend. Jeff Bohr was on the bump spot at 5.519 when they staged, Darren Nicholson 15th at 5.518.Hirata's car looked good to about half track, laid down on the top end. Veale lost a lot of time right on the starting line, a 1.045 60-foot time not good enough to have a chance. No help for either driver, the bottom of the field dodged a bullet.
Left Lane: Gene Arrigoni Runs 5.545/242.76, Now #17 Best prior run: 5.579/244.16, Was #19 Right Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.736/236.75, Now #21 Best prior run: 5.769/226.05, Was #21These two have been 5.40's cars this year, both should make the field with a good run.Nope, Arrigoni moved up to the first-alternate position, Dreher stayed right where he was in the order. Both had good early numbers, but ran out of steam on the top half.
Left Lane: Dave Weber Runs 5.602/230.57, Now #18 Best prior run: 5.561/235.93, Was #18 Right Lane: Tim Bowgren Runs 5.661/240.89, Now #19 Best prior run: 5.566/250.23, Was #19The bottom of the field has dodged the bullet for two pairs now and Bowgren was the bigger threat here.Nope again, neither driver improved and there's nobody left in line who isn't already in the field, so the sixteen-cars are set and now they are racing for pairings.
Left Lane: Darren Nicholson Runs 9.028/125.80, Now #15 Best prior run: 5.518/256.60, Was #15 Right Lane: Jeff Bohr Runs 5.582/261.52, Now #16 Best prior run: 5.519/261.88, Was #16These two had to be holding their breath for about the last three pairs and both survived the challenge. Now they needed to move up the ladder to get "easier" pairings.Nicholson shook and lost traction early. Bohr made a good run, but failed to improve. They will anchor the field this afternoon.
Left Lane: Courtney Force Runs 5.535/259.51, Now #12 Best prior run: 5.503/256.60, Was #12 Right Lane: Bill Evans Runs 5.543/249.49, Now #14 Best prior run: 5.517/259.61, Was #14Nice side-by-side runs - no improvement, but not far off their best of the weekend. Force's speed has increased slightly on each run so far and the car has been in the 5.50's on each pass. Evans has also been consistent, but his speed was down by 10 mph on this run.Left Lane: Duane Shields Runs 12.364/59.48, Now #10 Best prior run: 5.491/264.08, Was #10Paul Fishburn was supposed to run beside Shields, but did not make an appearance. Shields shook, dropped cylinders, and shut off.Left Lane: Todd Odom Runs 5.392/259.91, Now #5 Best prior run: 5.449/251.30, Was #9 Right Lane: Mike Kosky Runs 5.386/261.22, Now #4 Best prior run: 5.430/261.07, Was #7Nice runs in both lanes, but Kosky's car was trailing a light haze on the top end. Both cars moved into the middle of the top half of the field.Todd Odom's incremental times: 60ft-0.934 sec., 330ft-2.445, 660ft-3.582/217.98 mph, 1,000ft-4.545.
Mike Kosky's incremental times: 60ft-0.932 sec., 330ft-2.385, 660ft-3.539/214.04 mph, 1,000ft-4.534.Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 5.384/266.64, Now #4 Best prior run: 5.415/264.13, Was #7 Right Lane: Ken Perry Runs 5.397/260.91, Now #7 Best prior run: 5.417/260.01, Was #8Two more nice runs, two more improvements, both drivers moving up the ladder.Left Lane: Robin Samsel No Time, Now #8 Best prior run: 5.403/260.71, Was #8 Right Lane: Bill Reichert Runs 5.401/265.95, Now #2 Best prior run: 5.366/266.37, Was #2Samsel was lined up beside Reichert, but the car did not fire and they had to make the long tow back to the pits.Good run, but Reichert's car had a slight "hiccup" on the launch and he failed to improve.
Left Lane: Rich McPhillips Runs 5.429/256.89, Now #3 Best prior run: 5.368/262.95, Was #3 Right Lane: Michael Manners Runs 5.347/267.32, Now #1 Best prior run: 5.343/264.49, Was #1Manners ran within four thousandths of his #1-qualifying time and will lead the field into eliminations. McPhillips made a good run, but could not match his pace from yesterday and stayed third on the ladder.THey will be back this afternoon, to close out the day with the first round of eliminations.
