Results for Qualifying Round 1
KENT, Wash. - SEATTLE - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 29.596/0.00, Now #2
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.384/273.50, Now #1
3:51 p.m. We're down reconfiguring the track, and nitro takes center stage. Toliver blew the tires off right at the hit and he actually pulled over to the centerline and never finished his run. Arend was still on the throttle at 1000ft and records a decent time.
Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.320/276.75, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.479/205.38, Now #3
Neff left hard but the closer he got to the stripe the more the cylinders were mixing themselves up. Hight was a bit better off but with the heat that's been generated today (high 80s to low 90s) this is a tricky racing surface.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 6.453/100.73, Now #5
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.312/276.18, Now #1
Hagan becomes the best of the pack to date in the first session as he goes to the top of the short qualifying heap. C. Pedregon pedaled several times before he finally had to call it off.
Left Lane: John Force Runs 6.299/104.31, Now #6
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.347/274.83, Now #3
Wilkerson gets the better of J. Force in round 1 of qualifying but had to tippy tow around the centerline near the finish. Force had the back end of his pony kick out at about 330ft and he had to lift completely.
Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.255/285.23, Now #1
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 5.027/155.13, Now #7
Tasca moves into the top spot with the first 4.2 of the weekend and also top speed for the class. Worsham kicked the tires loose after half track and was coasting across the stripe.
Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 9.323/76.94, Now #11
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.271/273.44, Now #2
Beckman's hit ended in instant smoke and T.Pedregon just misses catching up to Tasca.
Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 7.038/90.24, Now #12
Right Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 4.320/249.26, Now #5
Capps fired and fell back by half track with tire spin. Hood gets a clean pass but only good enough for the #5 spot in the show. That was the final pair for round 1 of Funny Car.

Results for Qualifying Round 2
KENT, Wash. - SEATTLE - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 6.132/112.64, Now #11
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Grant Downing Runs 5.533/132.00, Now #10
                                  No Prior Run
7:05 p.m. We have a pair of drivers making the first hit of the weekend for their respective teams. Both fire and fall back as the pipes turn wet in both lanes.
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 7.004/86.64, Now #9
Best prior run: 5.027/155.13, Was #9
Right Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 5.531/130.85, Now #10
Best prior run: 29.596/0.00, Was #16
If you liked the first pair then this was a duplicate. Both launched and both had the pipes turn wet by half track or so.
Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.800/169.34, Now #8
Best prior run: 4.479/205.38, Was #8
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 5.577/132.13, Now #12
Best prior run: 9.323/76.94, Was #16
Nothing changes. Both cars leave hard and both go into tire smoke well before the finish line. It's still warm outside and the track shows it.
Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 5.606/126.13, Now #7
Best prior run: 4.384/273.50, Was #7
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 6.953/91.15, Now #16
Best prior run: 7.038/90.24, Was #16
We are nothing for nothing in this session. Neff was the only car to get into the four second area in session two.
Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.260/285.65, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.347/274.83, Was #6
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.292/279.04, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.453/100.73, Was #15
What's wrong with this picture? Both cars left under power and both finished the same way. Wilkerson goes all the way to #2 and C.Ped is now #4. Good looking runs for both drivers and their teams.
Left Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 6.951/77.88, Now #7
Best prior run: 4.320/249.26, Was #7
Right Lane: John Force Runs 6.224/108.59, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.299/104.31, Was #15
Force vs. Force in this pair. Hood has the chutes come out at about half track and I can only assume the blower got a bit tweaked and the laundry came out on auto pilot. J.Force smoked the tires early and coasted on out. The Safari is out checking out the track and they might be looking for stuff.
Left Lane: Matt Hagan No Time, Now #5
Best prior run: 4.312/276.18, Was #5
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 6.225/106.37, Now #6
Best prior run: 4.320/276.75, Was #6
Bad one for Hagan. They went to fire the car a one of the chutes fell out on the ground. The crew worked franticly but they couldn't get it stuffed back in on time. Hight singles and strikes the tires just as most of the field has done in this session.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.182/289.63, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.271/273.44, Was #3
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.228/282.48, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.255/285.23, Was #1
Making it look easy! T.Pedregon goes right around Tasca and takes over the top spot with both low ET and top speed for the class. Tasca actually improved from his first session of Friday, but not enough to hold on to the #1 position. Nice way to end the session.

Results for Qualifying Round 3
KENT, Wash. - SEATTLE - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 4.245/274.94, Now #4
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.216/286.32, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.312/276.18, Was #5
1:10 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 46 percent, barometer 29.80 inches, adjusted altitude 2,163 feet, track temperature 114 degrees.

Top Fuel certainly had their problems getting a hold on the racing surface so let's see how the Floppers fare. Hagan had the chute malfunction yesterday so they lost one session. Hagan makes it up and just misses passing T.Pedregon's 4.182. Capps was just a little behind at the stripe and he's now the #4 qualifier. Top Fuel needs to pay attention here.

Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 4.273/286.13, Now #6
Best prior run: 4.320/276.75, Was #7
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.339/283.13, Now #9
Best prior run: 5.027/155.13, Was #11
Now the first four Funnies have made nice side by side qualifying shots. Hight moves up a spot to #6 and Worsham just misses the top half of the field.
Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.334/261.07, Now #9
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 4.262/285.35, Now #6
Best prior run: 4.320/249.26, Was #8
This pair just about duplicates the Hight/Worsham matchup and they move the field around with Force-Hood going to #6 and Papa John playing Worsham at #9.
Left Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 6.092/107.21, Now #16
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Gary Densham Runs 5.025/156.08, Now #13
                                  No Prior Run
Densham had the makings of a pretty good run until after half track. Densham struck the tires and drifted close to the center stripe. He kept the Impala in his own lane and goes to #13. Beckman stayed in the middle of the lane but struck the tires even earlier than Beckman.
Left Lane: Grant Downing Runs 11.162/75.88, Now #15
Best prior run: 5.533/132.00, Was #15
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 7.458/91.95, Now #11
Best prior run: 4.384/273.50, Was #11
We go 0-2 on this pair. Downing struck the tires really early in the run and Arend waited until the count of two before he followed suite. Going down hill just a little now.
Left Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 6.567/102.05, Now #14
Best prior run: 5.531/130.85, Was #14
Right Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.311/276.75, Now #9
Best prior run: 4.479/205.38, Was #12
Neff got a full pass out of the Ford but was hazing the tires and putting cylinders out most of the way down. Toliver had the dreaded tire smoking problem early in his run and it never got any better.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 11.156/76.98, Now #8
Best prior run: 4.292/279.04, Was #8
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 6.552/108.95, Now #5
Best prior run: 4.260/285.65, Was #5
This session went downwards pretty quickly after the first six cars. This time Cruz smoked the Goodyears almost instantly and Wilkerson went about 200ft before doing exactly thing.
Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 4.785/174.50, Now #3
Best prior run: 4.228/282.48, Was #3
Right Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.174/291.13, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.182/289.63, Was #1
Final pair. One for two and what a one for Tony. He goes low for the session and actually the entire weekend. Tasca was with Pedregon for the first 600ft but he started hazing the tires and the pipes turned wet like maybe the blower belt fell off. Nice warm weather pass for Pedregon and team.

Results for Qualifying Round 4
KENT, Wash. - SEATTLE - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 4.262/280.60, Now #7
Best prior run: 5.025/156.08, Was #13
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.370/273.66, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.092/107.21, Was #16
3:48 p.m. Top Fuel still struggled in their final session so it will be interesting to see if the Funny Cars can change the trend. Beckman comes in dead last in the field and has struggled all weekend. Beckman makes his best run of four and Densham really steps up as he goes into the top half early in the session. Nice solid run for the bucks down racer Densham.
Left Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.397/277.49, Now #14
Best prior run: 4.384/273.50, Was #14
Arend gets the single here in the final round and he lays down a straight as a string pass that just about duplicates his runs from Friday. Looks like the kids have pulled these things back just a tad.
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.307/284.33, Now #10
Best prior run: 4.339/283.13, Was #12
Right Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 4.309/276.80, Now #11
Best prior run: 5.531/130.85, Was #15
Just about identical passes for these two with only .002 difference between them. Toliver makes the bigger move of the two and is now #11. Worsham picks up two spots in the field to #10.
Left Lane: Mike Neff Runs 4.216/290.26, Now #2
Best prior run: 4.311/276.75, Was #12
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.229/290.13, Now #5
Best prior run: 4.334/261.07, Was #13
Neff and Force really shake up the first round pairings with these run. Neff goes all the way to #2 while J.Force is now #5. Bad news here is that matches Hagan and Beckman in the first round if nothing changes.
Left Lane: A. Force Hood Runs 4.268/285.35, Now #8
Best prior run: 4.262/285.35, Was #8
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.421/216.38, Now #11
Best prior run: 4.292/279.04, Was #11
Force-Hood and C.Ped match up here in final qualifying. Hood leaves first and pulls away and comes close to matching her third round numbers. Pedregon clicked it early and will wind up #11.
Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 4.274/287.78, Now #7
Best prior run: 4.260/285.65, Was #7
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 6.558/101.05, Now #10
Best prior run: 4.273/286.13, Was #10
Wilkerson gets the full pull but he falls just short of any improvement. Hight left well but blew the tires off at about the middle of the course. This might be a preview of round 1 on Sunday if no one jiggles the ladder from here.
Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 4.235/286.25, Now #3
Best prior run: 4.216/286.32, Was #3
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 6.882/90.42, Now #6
Best prior run: 4.245/274.94, Was #6
Hagan can't change the order, nor can Capps so right now it's Hagan and Beckman in round 1 on Sunday. Tasca is about the only one left that could change that as he's #4. Capps struck the tires and was never really in the final session.
Left Lane: Tony Pedregon Runs 4.228/294.43, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.174/291.13, Was #1
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 5.903/113.02, Now #4
Best prior run: 4.228/282.48, Was #4
Tasca will change nothing as he's up in smoke before 200ft. Pedregon is just plain consistent as he's gotten down the track under power in all four sessions. That's the end of nitro qualifying and we'll be going into Alky eliminations.

Results for Elimination Round 1
KENT, Wash. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Tim Wilkerson (Levi, Ray & Shoup Mustang) 0.103 4.180 297.88
 (L) Robert Hight (AAA of So. Cal Mustang) 0.125 4.274 276.69
11:32 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.86 inches, adjusted altitude 1,411 feet, track temperature 102 degrees.

Hight is 6 - 4 against Wilkerson in prior events but comes into the round just a bit of an underdog based on qualifying. Wilkerson saves his weekend best for Hight here in the first round and he unloads the second best Funny Car run of the weekend in the process. According to the numbers Wilkerson never trailed in the race.

 (W) Ron Capps (NAPA Auto Parts Charger) 0.125 4.206 290.26
 (L) Cruz Pedregon (Advance Auto Parts Solara) 0.100 4.774 178.24
Capps is 18 - 15 against Pedregon in prior events and has the advantage in round 1 by about a nickel. Capps was second at the hit and was behind until after 330ft. Pedregon started spinning the tires around 300ft and that was all it took for Capps to motor on by for a big round win.
 (W) Bob Tasca III (Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustan 0.124 4.498 246.80
 (L) Jerry Toliver (Canidae Pet Food Monte Carlo 0.172 4.535 205.85
Tasca III is 1 - 0 against Toliver in prior events and has a decided advantage over Toliver here in the first round. Tasca had an engine popping and banging and also used a bunch of his lane in taking the win over Toliver. I'd never have guessed that a 4.498 would have been a winner in the first round. Even Tasca says '...the wildest ride I've taken.'
 (W) Tony Pedregon (Conquest Boats Impala) 0.110 4.401 247.07
 (L) Grant Downing (All American Monte Carlo) 0.144 14.750 37.02
This is the first time Downing and Pedregon have faced each other in eliminations. Chuck Worsham is tuning Downing this weekend and he has something go wrong right at the hit and is coasting from the tree on down. T.Pedregon was all over his lane and was there for the taking.
 (W) Mike Neff (JFR/Ford Mustang) 0.135 4.829 226.16
 (L) Jeff Arend (DHL Solara) 0.099 5.095 180.24
Neff is 2 - 1 against Arend in prior events and has the decided advantage on paper. Arend was right there with Neff to half track. Both cars lost traction about half track and it was Neff that was quicker back to the throttle and takes the win. Wilkerson will have choice over Neff next round.
 (W) Jack Beckman (Valvoline/MTS Charger) 0.149 4.605 241.67
 (L) Matt Hagan (Shelor Motor Mile Charger) 0.105 6.052 88.10
Hagan is 1 - 0 against Beckman in prior events as the teammates meet here in the first round. Winner here gets Capps in the next round. Not great lights but Hagan has the engine go bang big time before half track. Hagan's blew hard enough you could see the flames during the daylight. Capps of course has lane choice over Beckman.
 (W) John Force (Castrol GTX Mustang) 0.103 4.293 281.42
 (L) Del Worsham (Al-Anabi Racing Solara) 0.095 4.393 253.42
Force is 8th in points so this round is a big deal for his team. Force is 43 - 21 against Worsham in prior events. Worsham took a huge lead on Force and held it until after 660ft. Worsham's racer blew up and turned sideways giving the win to Papa John. Force has choice over Tasca.
 (W) Ashley Force Hood (Castrol GTX Mustang) 0.081 4.410 235.84
 (L) Gary Densham (Haddock Racing Impala) 0.134 4.705 181.42
Force Hood is 4 - 1 against Densham in prior events. Force-Hood never trailed but neither car crossed the finish under power. Densham's ride gave up earlier than the Mustang and Force-Hood ran out of power and then got very close to the wall before the stripe. T.Pedregon picks the lanes when they meet in the second round.

Results for Elimination Round 2
KENT, Wash. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals:
 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Tim Wilkerson (Levi, Ray & Shoup Mustang) 0.105 4.265 287.17
 (L) Mike Neff (JFR/Ford Mustang) 0.110 4.289 282.95
2:04 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 43 percent, barometer 29.85 inches, adjusted altitude 1,843 feet, track temperature 119 degrees.

Wilkerson is 7 - 3 against Neff in prior events and now they meet on a fairly warm track under bright sunshine. Wilkerson goes two for two against the Force team today as he disposes of Neff just like he did Hight in the first round. Tim Wilkerson's MOV: 0.0298 seconds (approximately 12 feet).

 (W) Ron Capps (NAPA Auto Parts Charger) 0.118 4.250 273.33
 (L) Jack Beckman (Valvoline/MTS Charger) 0.117 4.359 282.72
Capps is 5 - 4 against Beckman in prior events as teammates meet to decide who goes to the semis. Just a good old dragrace here as it was even at the tree but Capps NAPA racer pulled away at every marker. That gives Capps lane choice over Wilkerson in one semi.
 (W) John Force (Castrol GTX Mustang) 0.080 4.281 283.07
 (L) Bob Tasca III (Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustan 0.083 5.317 139.54
Tasca III and Force have each won 2 times against the other in prior events. Really close at the green the orange Mustang of Tasca started hazing the tires by 330ft and that was all J.Force needed to secure his spot in the semi-finals.
 (W) Tony Pedregon (Conquest Boats Impala) 0.056 4.305 279.38
 (L) Ashley Force Hood (Castrol GTX Mustang) 0.098 4.285 284.15
Pedregon is 10 - 3 against Force Hood in prior events. T.Pedregon leaves Force-Hood at the tree and held her off all the way to the stripe for the holeshot win. That leaves J.Force to face T.Ped in the other semi and Force has lane choice.

3:42 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 43 percent, barometer 29.83 inches, adjusted altitude 1,834 feet, track temperature 119 degrees.

Capps is 18 - 10 against Wilkerson in prior events and this meeting will help set the final round. Wilkerson sets out to even those career numbers as he leaves first over Capps and the holds the lead all the way to the stripe. Tim Wilkerson's MOV: 0.0627 seconds (approximately 26 feet).

 (W) Tony Pedregon (Conquest Boats Impala) 0.027 4.262 292.71
 (L) John Force (Castrol GTX Mustang) 0.062 4.308 288.09
We have a Force in the Alcohol Dragster final can Papa John match the performance. Force is 53 - 22 against Pedregon in prior events. Both drivers go in deep and it's T.Ped away first at the green. Pedregon built a huge lead and there was nothing Force could do but watch from his seat. Wilkerson will have lane choice over Pedregon in the final.

Sunday

 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Tim Wilkerson (Levi, Ray & Shoup Mustang) 0.127 4.211 291.01
