CLERMONT, Ind. - INDY - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 55th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 7.355/144.40, Now #2
Right Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.696/205.98, Now #1
6:28 p.m.
We're just about ready to begin Pro Stock qualifying at Indy 09.
Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer
29.16 inches, adjusted altitude 2,928 feet, track temperature 101 degrees.
A few minutes ago, I was checking out staging and saw something that gave me reason #655 why the economy HAS to get better. It was a group of four friends checking out the racing and talking back and forth.
In no particular order, that group consisted of Hillary Will, Richie Stevens, and Angelle Sampey.
Dammit, they need to be out here in the hunt, racing every race. It is a true shame that people of that caliber are spectators.
OK, off the soapbox.
Our first pair has Nobile in a Larry Morgan Lucas car up against Hartford in a Nickens Brothers Nitrofish Stratus.
This might get interesting. Nobile just hammers the front half of the track but gets loose downtrack. Hartford cards a good pass.
John Nobile's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.789, 660ft-4.326/153.98 mph, 1,000ft-5.863.
Left Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 7.210/201.76, Now #3
Right Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.816/202.03, Now #2
Cunningham is placed on the line by chassis builder Jerry Haas, who has been closely associated with the team for quite a while.
Lawrence makes a straight pass but Cunningham's car does NOT leave the starting line.
Left Lane: Frank Gugliotta Runs 6.826/200.47, Now #4
Right Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.726/204.05, Now #2
Yes, it's the same guy. IHRA stalwart Gugliotta is trying his hand with the squeak motors this weekend.
Schmidt's car looked really nice with good wheelspeed that accelerated quickly and remained under control
Frank Gugliotta's incremental times: 60ft-1.009 sec., 330ft-2.839, 660ft-4.378/159.91 mph, 1,000ft-5.705. Steve Schmidt's incremental times: 60ft-0.995 sec., 330ft-2.802, 660ft-4.316/162.86 mph, 1,000ft-5.623.
Left Lane: Dave River Runs 6.973/196.53, Now #6
Right Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 6.819/203.25, Now #4
It's an all-Hawkeye pair here since both drivers hail from Iowa.
Both cars spun fairly hard and didn't build enough speed to come up with an ET that's going to stay qualified.
Left Lane: John Gaydosh Jr Runs 6.822/201.01, Now #5
Right Lane: Mark Buehring No Time, Now #10
Buehring is carrying the logo of Texas Racing Engines and has Taylor Lastor listed as crew chief. Comp fans will immediately recognize both.
The Cobalt has major problems as it more or less just idles off the starting line.
Gaydosh gets a decent baseline to work from.
Left Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.668/206.35, Now #1
Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.763/204.29, Now #4
Deceglie gives notice he's here to bang heads with the big guys. That's a stout pass and he goes to the top.
Left Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.843/200.83, Now #10
Right Lane: Ryan Ondrejko Runs 6.670/206.07, Now #2
Two young racers will face off here. The Ondrejko family has been close to the Jim Yates clan for years, and Jon Yates is shown as the crew chief here.
Nice pass for the Yates car. In the other lane, I have no doubt that the new Ford Pro Stock engine can't possibly get here soon enough to suit Erica.
Right Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.679/206.39, Now #3
times: 60ft-0.998 sec., 330ft-2.805, 660ft-4.301/164.63 mph, 1,000ft-5.588.
Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.687/205.35, Now #5
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.663/205.94, Now #1
It's Indy, and it's where surprises occur and careers are made. Speiss makes his intent to join the list known with a very stout run that looked great from start to finish.
Justin Humphreys' incremental times: 60ft-1.000 sec., 330ft-2.795, 660ft-4.297/163.95 mph, 1,000ft-5.592. Steve Spiess' incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.776, 660ft-4.276/164.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.570.
Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.727/204.60, Now #9
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.684/206.26, Now #5
Now we're starting to get to the good stuff. The sixties are going to start flying.
Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.702/206.26, Now #8
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 12.601/67.96, Now #20
Neither car leaves that well. Gray's spin transitions into shake and he has to lift.
Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.721/207.24, Now #10
Right Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.696/206.16, Now #7
Warren once again has big problems trying to get off the line. The car didn't do any weird gyrations, at least not from here.
Warren Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.034 sec., 330ft-2.841, 660ft-4.341/164.57 mph, 1,000ft-5.633.
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.699/207.05, Now #10
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.652/207.27, Now #1
We have a patriotic starting line since both cars are red, white, and blue.
Kurt blows the tires off. Krisher doesn't.
Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.025 sec., 330ft-2.821, 660ft-4.319/164.49 mph, 1,000ft-5.610. Ron Krisher's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.788, 660ft-4.283/164.61 mph, 1,000ft-5.566.
Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.669/206.86, Now #5
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.645/206.92, Now #1
AJ makes up for his DNQ as he gets well with this pass.
I'm wondering if the left lane may not have an issue as Stanfield also is slow off the line but still manages to record a strong ET.
Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-1.005 sec., 330ft-2.794, 660ft-4.290/164.83 mph, 1,000ft-5.580. Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.774, 660ft-4.269/164.95 mph, 1,000ft-5.558.
Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.635/208.20, Now #2
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.624/207.66, Now #1
It's one of the better races I've seen in a long while as both cars go side by side and jump into the top spots. Anderson had excellent numbers, but Edwards was just slightly better at every spot. Anderson gets top speed. And Greg goes .991/2.779 so forget my doubts about the left lane.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.779, 660ft-4.268/165.33 mph, 1,000ft-5.552. Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.765, 660ft-4.254/165.48 mph, 1,000ft-5.539.
Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.639/207.05, Now #3
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.675/207.15, Now #10
Jason probably got just about what he was looking for, but Jeg spun hard and the car didn't travel well on the very front of the track.
Edwards claims his usual #1 spot, leaving Rodger Brogdon on the provisional #12 bump spot.

CLERMONT, Ind. - INDY - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 55th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Mark Buehring Runs 6.816/202.03, Now #23
No Prior Run
12:43 p.m.
Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 29.29 inches, adjusted altitude 2,639 feet, track temperature 92 degrees. Buehring's Cobalt has a color scheme that reminds me a lot of John Montecalvo's cars. I have no idea if there is a connection.
The car sounds good throughout the run though third gear sounded a bit quick.
Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.665/206.95, Now #8
Best prior run: 7.355/144.40, Was #30
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.647/207.72, Now #5
Best prior run: 12.601/67.96, Was #31 It's looking like this will be a very good session. The overcast has cleared but the track hasn't gotten very crispy yet.
Both cars move into the top half. Nobile looks like he never left and has been racing all along.
John Nobile's incremental times: 60ft-0.995 sec., 330ft-2.789, 660ft-4.286/164.83 mph, 1,000ft-5.576. Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-0.994 sec., 330ft-2.785, 660ft-4.276/165.36 mph, 1,000ft-5.562.
Left Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 6.753/203.83, Now #23

Right Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 6.827/203.92, Now #27
Best prior run: 6.819/203.25, Was #26 Neither car in this pair had the early numbers that would get them qualified.
Left Lane: Dave River Runs 10.328/88.09, Now #31
Best prior run: 6.973/196.53, Was #31
Right Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 6.793/202.82, Now #25

Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.703/205.22, Now #20
Best prior run: 6.763/204.29, Was #24
Right Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.709/204.85, Now #21
Best prior run: 6.726/204.05, Was #22 Qualifying lanes and position in the order are pre-assigned, so someone didn't make the call here.
Steve Schmidt's incremental times: 60ft-0.992 sec., 330ft-2.799, 660ft-4.308/163.43 mph, 1,000ft-5.610.
Left Lane: John Gaydosh Jr Runs 6.833/201.97, Now #28
Best prior run: 6.822/201.01, Was #28
Right Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 6.700/206.80, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.696/205.98, Was #17 There's not much to comment on with most of these passes. All the cars are getting off the starting line pretty darn well though some have a bit too much wheelspeed at the intial hit.
John Gaydosh Jr's incremental times: 60ft-1.016 sec., 330ft-2.866, 660ft-4.401/160.82 mph, 1,000ft-5.720. Matt Hartford's incremental times: 60ft-1.008 sec., 330ft-2.819, 660ft-4.320/164.43 mph, 1,000ft-5.612.

Best prior run: 6.727/204.60, Was #23
Right Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.690/206.92, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.696/206.16, Was #16 Rickie Jones has his car in the Bailey Trucking signage this weekend.
Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.661/207.94, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.721/207.24, Was #22
Right Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.650/207.85, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.684/206.26, Was #14 This should prove to be a good indication of what's available this session. Both of these guys can haul butt, so if they don't step way up there's not much hope of a big session.
OK, that settles that. The cars move into the top half.
Warren Johnson's incremental times:
60ft-1.003 sec., 330ft-2.797, 660ft-4.292/165.17 mph, 1,000ft-5.578. Rodger Brogdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.995 sec., 330ft-2.783, 660ft-4.279/164.93 mph, 1,000ft-5.567.
Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.684/207.56, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.702/206.26, Was #20
Right Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.650/207.88, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.679/206.39, Was #15 Greg Stanfield is now on the bump spot at 6.669.
Three hundredths difference in time, and one car's in, the other outside the provisional 12.
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.679/207.18, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.699/207.05, Was #20
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.650/208.04, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.675/207.15, Was #15 Kurt made it into the second season by making a qualifying pass last night.
I heard RPMs shoot to the moon in first gear, and looking at the numbers I think it was Kurt blazing his tires.
Right Lane: Ryan Ondrejko Runs 6.641/206.95, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.670/206.07, Was #15 The Wiley-X car lays down a exceptional pass, one of the best of the session. Doesn't look like the Yates clan has forgotten very much!
Ryan Ondrejko's incremental times: 60ft-0.985 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.266/165.01 mph, 1,000ft-5.554.
Steve Spiess is now on the bump spot at 6.663.
Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.637/207.78, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.669/206.86, Was #15
Right Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.656/207.21, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.663/205.94, Was #12 Stanfield's pass looked good from the first ten feet. The car jumped up on the tires and they were on the edge of spin as far as I could follow them. The GXP made a strong move going to 330 and built the speed it needed.
Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.994 sec., 330ft-2.777, 660ft-4.267/165.44 mph, 1,000ft-5.553.
Left Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.646/207.37, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.668/206.35, Was #15
Right Lane: Ron Krisher No Time, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.652/207.27, Was #11 DeCeglie moves towards the prestage bulb but stops as his crew signals him to back up. He gives it another shot and the place him where they wanted.
Krisher gets timed out on the autostage. After Rick Stewart signalled him to move off the line, he went on the chip as normal and left.
The car spun the tires very hard and went right. Krisher clicked it at 150 so he didn't even get the onboard data.
In meantime, Vinnie gets into the show with a lot of breathing room.
Left Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.620/208.23, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.639/207.05, Was #4
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.633/207.91, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.645/206.92, Was #6 The Summit boys are back to their old tricks, when they'd throw up a run that the rest of the class would just observe and shake their collective heads. That was VERY stout.
Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.767, 660ft-4.255/165.50 mph, 1,000ft-5.537. Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.773, 660ft-4.263/165.38 mph, 1,000ft-5.549.
Line's on the top end telling us all to watch Greg, as he has even more.
Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.640/208.30, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.635/208.20, Was #4
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.581/209.01, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.624/207.66, Was #2 Talking about jaw dropping, I'm still trying to close mine.
Except it wasn't the Summit boys. Mike Edwards stuns all of us. I was predicting he'd go low with a 6.615 and he made me look Real Stupid.
To top it off, we hear from the top end that Edwards hurt the engine during the pass. The entire population of the class that isn't named Edwards hopes the damage came at 1325 feet - if it was further back on the track the power is too good to be imagined.
Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.998 sec., 330ft-2.789,
660ft-4.277/165.62 mph, 1,000ft-5.559. Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.753, 660ft-4.232/166.83 mph, 1,000ft-5.506.
Something about Greg's leave looked strange and he recorded a .466 reaction time - he may have rolled the beams.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.680/206.35, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.656/207.21, Was #13
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.655/207.18, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.684/207.56, Was #18 Morgan steps up and is knocking on the door.
Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 7.020/159.10, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.650/207.85, Was #12
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.675/207.43, Now #18
Best prior run: 6.679/207.18, Was #18 OK, here's the way it works in 2009: Brogdon is in the show and KJ isn't.
And strangely enough, it stays that way at least for now. Brogdon was coasting on the top end but I'm not sure why.
Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.630/207.82, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.650/207.88, Was #11
Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.702/205.85, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.665/206.95, Was #16 Humphrey unloads a little more of the Summit power and makes a massive run considering what everyone else has done this session. He was barely in the field, now he's knocking on the door at the top.
Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.654/207.37, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.650/208.04, Was #11
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.670/207.66, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.661/207.94, Was #15 I don't know what to think about that one. Warren's ride finally looked like it wanted to leave the starting line, but the numbers he needs still don't come up.
Jeg Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.784, 660ft-4.280/165.03 mph, 1,000ft-5.568. Warren Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.794, 660ft-4.292/164.69 mph, 1,000ft-5.583.
Left Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.687/207.62, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.647/207.72, Was #10
Right Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.654/207.08, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.646/207.37, Was #9 Two good passes for the session.
Johnny Gray's incremental times: 60ft-1.011 sec., 330ft-2.813, 660ft-4.311/164.77 mph, 1,000ft-5.601. Vinnie Deceglie's incremental times: 60ft-0.983 sec., 330ft-2.776, 660ft-4.274/164.85 mph, 1,000ft-5.565.
Left Lane: Ryan Ondrejko Runs 6.644/206.83, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.641/206.95, Was #8
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.636/207.53, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.635/208.20, Was #5 Anderson runs very well as expected but the significant fact of this pair is that the Yates car is both fast and consistent.
When you can cluster your ETs at will, you have an advantage in all the conditions encountered here.
Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.640/207.69, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.633/207.91, Was #4
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.654/207.30, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.637/207.78, Was #6 No improvements, but lots of data.
Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.777, 660ft-4.270/165.25 mph, 1,000ft-5.556. Greg Stanfield's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.781, 660ft-4.276/164.99 mph, 1,000ft-5.566.
Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.623/208.17, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.581/209.01, Was #1
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.637/207.72, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.620/208.23, Was #2 Most of the Pro Stock teams are watching this pair pretty closely. Edwards indeed hurt his #1 engine on the last pass and is running a backup here.
Line was the class of the field until Edwards outran him by .04.
Edwards puts up a good numbers with great times throughout and is still by far the class of the field.

Results for Qualifying Round 4
|
CLERMONT, Ind. - INDY - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 55th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.701/205.32, Now #13
No Prior Run
4:32 p.m.
Due to the weather delays, plans have changed and this is do or die for anyone not in the top twelve.
The skies have cleared and we have a nice, sunny, breezy day. From the motorcycle session we saw there's plenty of starting line as
long as the setup was correct.
Schmidt runs hard on the front half but I thought a heard a flutter from the engine in
fourth gear.
Left Lane: Mark Hogan Runs 7.754/194.77, Now #15
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dave River Runs 6.988/197.74, Now #14
No Prior Run The flags here at the track are standing straight out and rippling. The Goodyear blimp is slowly circling overhead. You ought to be here!
River stands up off the line and the nose pops back up going into second. Hogan left but starts moving toward the wall and lifts his foot.
Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.679/206.61, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.650/207.85, Was #12
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.942/199.43, Now #14
No Prior Run Brogdon was on the bump of the provisional field, and has the power to move way up the ladder.
Both cars aren't that quick going to 330 and it hurts their runs.
Rodger Brogdon's incremental times: 60ft-1.005 sec., 330ft-2.802, 660ft-4.300/164.57 mph, 1,000ft-5.590. Erica Enders' incremental times: 60ft-1.029 sec., 330ft-2.908, 660ft-4.469/158.00 mph, 1,000ft-5.812.
Left Lane: Mark Buehring Runs 6.828/201.52, Now #14
No Prior Run
Right Lane: John Gaydosh Jr Runs 8.900/107.24, Now #18
No Prior Run Buehring gets way sideways coming out of the water. That always makes me wonder if both tires got the same amount of water and spin.
Both have 1.02 sixty foot times, and that's not going to get the job done. Worse, Gaydosh's car begins smoking right about 4th gear and he lifts.
Left Lane: Bob Benza Runs 6.731/204.66, Now #14
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 6.856/201.55, Now #16
No Prior Run Dave River is currently on the bump spot at 6.988.
Both cars get in but they're not going to stay in the order very long in my opinion.
Left Lane: Matt Hartford Runs 7.478/145.28, Now #20
No Prior Run
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.715/204.26, Now #14
No Prior Run Everybody understands what's at stake here, and the cars are taking longer than usual to stage.
Hartford misses the leave a bit and to make things worse begins to smoke heavily at the top of third. This time, we have trucks rolling for a clean up in his lane.
Gaines cards a nice pass and gets in the show with the Kendall car.
Mark Buehring is now on the bump spot at 6.828.
4:46 p.m.
Left Lane: Johnny Gray No Time, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.647/207.72, Was #10
Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 7.149/155.01, Now #20
No Prior Run Gaines is on the top end saying that he doesn't expect that run to keep him qualified but that he's really happy with it never the less.
He said the team expected to struggle as their inhouse engine program progressed, but that the results of this particular pass finally solved a problem they've been fighting for some time.
4:49 p.m. After a quick cleaning of the shutdown area, we fire the next pair.
Gray has problems. The engine's blubbering and can't do a burnout. He backs up to try again but the engine sounds like a V5. He's pushed off to the side.
Nobile is in one of Larry Morgan's cars which still carries the Lucas scheme. He leaves hard and is on what looks to be a qualifying pass when we hear the engine simply shut off in high gear. Nobile won't qualify.
Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.649/206.10, Now #11
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.665/205.82, Now #14
No Prior Run Both these cars are a good indication of what's for the taking this session as they both bump in. Spiess' time might hold.
Steve Spiess' incremental times: 60ft-0.979 sec., 330ft-2.766, 660ft-4.264/164.51 mph, 1,000ft-5.557. Justin Humphreys' incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.776, 660ft-4.277/164.39 mph, 1,000ft-5.572.
Left Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.689/206.23, Now #15
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.701/206.48, Now #16
No Prior Run Amazing. Both cars here are very fast and neither is currently in the show.
V. Gaines is on the bump spot at 6.715 and both of the guys on the line intend to change that.
There is a big story looming here. Kurt crawls off the starting line, lands on the bump, and knows his dad is next up to stage.
Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.659/206.80, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.650/208.04, Was #12
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.703/206.80, Now #18
No Prior Run Like I just typed, if WJ gets in Kurt will be spectating tomorrow and that to me is a stunning development.
But what actually happens is that Warren doesn't qualify for the US Nationals. That's unthinkable.
Jeggie stays put in the 12th spot.
Left Lane: Ryan Ondrejko Runs 6.663/205.88, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.641/206.95, Was #8
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.652/206.67, Now #14
No Prior Run Kurt Johnson is on the bump spot at 6.701. If Morgan gets in, we will be racing tomorrow without either KJ or WJ.
Morgan kills the front half just like in good days and ensures that nobody from Sugar Hill will be racing. Like them or not, this is stunning watching history being made.
Congratulations to Morgan! What could be sweeter to a Mopar racer than making sure the Johnsons were shut out? Morgan should get a bonus or maybe a new Hemi Challenger just for that feat.
Ryan Ondrejko's incremental times: 60ft-0.984 sec., 330ft-2.779, 660ft-4.278/164.35 mph, 1,000ft-5.571. Larry Morgan's incremental times: 60ft-0.981 sec., 330ft-2.774, 660ft-4.271/164.57 mph, 1,000ft-5.562.
Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.640/207.02, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.641/207.78, Was #7
Right Lane: Vinnie Deceglie Runs 6.652/206.51, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.646/207.37, Was #9 Very consistent passes on both sides and both racers stay put.
Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.651/207.59, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.633/207.91, Was #4
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.648/206.95, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.637/207.78, Was #6 Nice passes on each side. I just realized how good the graphics look on Stanfield's car look but I am sure Greg would just as soon we couldn't see it due to the sponsor logos covering it.
Left Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.670/207.08, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.630/207.82, Was #3
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.633/207.91, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.620/208.23, Was #2 Humphrey fires his car to move into the water but the throttle is hung and the engine sounds like it's idling about 3500.
They pull the front end and work under the scoop.
Even after the burnout, the idle is still up. It's got to be at least 1000 rpms.
Ronnie does a great job staging the car and cracks off another quick pass. Think about it - he's in the third spot but nobody from Sugar Hill is an any competition spot.
Sorry I keep harping about WJ and KJ but my head is exploding because it's just unthinkable that the two steadiest racers over years can't get into the field.
Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.609/208.39, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.581/209.01, Was #1
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.651/207.66, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.635/208.20, Was #5 Not much to say about this one, other than Mike Edwards simply crushes the rest of the field. He has as about as much distance between himself and the number two car as we've seen in entire 16 car fields. In 2009, that's a remarkable achievement!
Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.977 sec., 330ft-2.758, 660ft-4.246/165.84 mph, 1,000ft-5.528. Greg Anderson's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.786, 660ft-4.279/164.89 mph, 1,000ft-5.566.
So that's it for Pro Stock qualifying here at Indy. The field will look like no other in history, guaranteed.
