Cowan misses the green and then runs well until after the 1000 foot lights. The car makes a hard move into the guardrail, knocking the front end body pieces into the air and back down on to the track. The car continues backwards across the track to strike the right wall. He finally coasts to a stop in the middle of the track.[4:37 p.m. Cowan was transported as a precaution for observation to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. He exited the car under his own power and was complaining of lower back pain, after being checked out by the NHRA Emergency Services officials.
Huggins slows down track and doesn't improve.
