Right Lane: Junior Pippin Runs 7.126/189.36, Now #5

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.063/188.81, Now #3
Right Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.982/191.70, Now #1

Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.021/193.54, Now #2

Smith spun the tire and shut if off quickly, coasting through. Nice pass by Hines to move in right behind Stoffer in the lineup.
Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.164/192.00, Now #14
Right Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.997/189.71, Now #3
These two are contending for the championship, Arana leading by 54 points, so the qualifying bonus points are very important to these two. Krawiec's bike spun the tire and wagged its tail on the launch for an off-pace 1.217 60-foot time and he didn't even make the 12-bike field. Arana squeaked into the third spot after a strong start.

Stoffer gets the 3 point bonus, Hines gets 2, and Arana gets 1 bonus point.

Two nice runs to shake up the field. Now Junior Pippin is on the bump spot at 7.126.
Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.186/189.47, Now #19
Best prior run: 7.195/185.92, Was #18

DeSantis' bike wagged its rear tire a few times early in the run, but he settled it down - still missed the field. Horne made a very nice run, the fourth "six" of the weekend. Now Larry Cook is on the bump spot at 7.094.
Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.163/185.23, Now #17

Our info on Moreno yesterday was not correct - he actually made his Pro Stock Motorcycle debut here in 1990 and made the field. He also tried to qualify in 1991, missed the field, but ran as an alternate.

Camarena made a career-best run at Las Vegas and he bettered that one on this run, moving all the way up to the top half of the field (for now). Moreno failed to improve.

Left Lane: Junior Pippin Runs 7.168/188.15, Now #14
Best prior run: 7.126/189.36, Was #14

Left Lane: David Hope Runs 7.050/187.08, Now #10

Best prior run: 7.142/183.97, Was #17
Phillips' bike wiggled a bit early in the run. He failed to improve, by a thousandth. Whitaker gave it a good try, improved slightly, but came up short.
Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.091/189.28, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.997/189.71, Was #6

Johnson spun the tire, wiggled hard, and shut off. Arana also had some early wiggles, scrubbing off a lot of time, and he failed to improve.
Left Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.469/192.19, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.986/192.33, Was #2

Hines' bike spun the tire and shook on the launch, killing his momentum. Underdahl also fought the bike early in the run.
Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.037/191.38, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.982/191.70, Was #1
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.021/176.05, Now #8
Best prior run: 7.063/188.81, Was #11
Last pair. Two okay runs, but Stoffer lost ground, while Gann moved up a couple spots.

11:49 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 68 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 2,299 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

With "provisional qualifying" in effect, only the top twelve keep their times and we won't have a bump time until four more riders get times in this session.

Lougheed made the burnout, then pushed the bike away from the line. Dawn made a clean pass, is in the field for the time being.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.024/190.06, Now #9
                                  No Prior Run

Hines had a bad run yesterday, so he runs early today, even though he is second in the qualifying list.

Another busted run for Hines. Johnson made a clean run and that time should keep him in the field.

Left Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.625/177.74, Now #16
                                  No Prior Run

Sullivan's bike quit shifting before top gear. DeSantis made a clean pass, but that time won't hold. Now we have a bump time...Sullivan's.
Left Lane: Gary Moreno Runs 7.302/179.85, Now #16
                                  No Prior Run

                                  No Prior Run
Harris' bike stuttered and sounded ragged during the burnout. Didn't fare much better on the run, but he was quicker than Surber and his is now the time to beat.
Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.175/183.57, Now #15
                                  No Prior Run

Arana had a bad run yesterday, but he hit the sweet spot today and went to the head of the class, by a bunch, 0.07 seconds quicker than #2 Stoffer. Berry made a clean run, but is dangerously close to the bump spot. Joe DeSantis is now on the bump spot at 7.202.
Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 7.032/191.59, Now #11

Smith was the last rider not already in the field and he solved that with a very nice run to move all the way up to second spot. Now Bailey Whitaker is on the bump spot at 7.095 and he will stay there until the final session, later today..
Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.973/190.24, Now #4
Best prior run: 7.021/176.05, Was #11

Two nice runs, both in the sixes.
Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 7.163/192.17, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.995/193.13, Was #9
Right Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.001/192.99, Now #10
Best prior run: 7.021/193.54, Was #11
Krawiec probably wanted to challenge Arana for the three bonus points, but he only has one good run in three tries now. Phillips just missed the six-second zone on a nice run.
Left Lane: Douglas Horne Runs 6.956/191.57, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.989/191.54, Was #7
Right Lane: Larry Cook Runs 6.998/187.44, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.987/188.96, Was #6
Last pair...and two more nice runs. Arana leads the field and adds three bonus points to his total. Horne gets two bonus points and Smith gets one for this session.

They will be back around 2:30 this afternoon for their final shot.

Oh-for-two. Moreno's bike kept going left, taking out the 660-foot speed-start timing block. DeSantis saw him coming and backed off.
Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 7.032/191.21, Now #14
Best prior run: 7.050/192.03, Was #15

Best prior run: 7.095/183.67, Was #16
Treble made a nice run (with a 0.003 reaction time to boot) to move way up the ladder. Whitaker also improved, with a career best ET and speed, but stayed 16th.
Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 6.981/193.46, Now #7
Best prior run: 7.001/192.99, Was #11

Good run for Phillips and another career-best ET for Underdahl, moving him up a notch.
Left Lane: David Hope Runs 7.026/189.15, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.992/186.95, Was #10

Best prior run: 7.024/190.06, Was #13
Hope made a good pass, but failed to improve. Johnson's bike was off-pace from the start and moving to the left, so he shut it off.
Left Lane: Larry Cook Runs 7.158/187.78, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.987/188.96, Was #9

Cook had a great launch, with a 1.075 60-foot time, but Krawiec went by early and Cook slowed. Krawiec made his best pass of the weekend to move into third.
Left Lane: Andrew Hines No Time, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.986/192.33, Was #9

Hines' bike lost traction on the launch and he shut it off, slowly rolling down the track. Gann made a great pass to move into second spot, with the quickest run of the session so far and a career-best ET.
Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.207/190.48, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.969/192.36, Was #7
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 7.126/163.29, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.963/192.30, Was #5
Smith's bike lost power with a puff of smoke in the middle of the run. Stoffer had good early numbers, but the bike hit the rev limiter at an early shift.
Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.943/191.10, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.918/193.46, Was #1
Right Lane: Douglas Horne Runs 7.012/191.00, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.956/191.57, Was #3
Last pair. Arana made a good run, best of the round, but not quite as good as his earlier pass.

That gives Arana another three bonus points, Gann gets two, and Krawiec salvages just one.

Hines holds a commanding 11-1 record against Phillips, 5-0 in round one.

Hines was off the line first, then Phillips sat up and gave up on the run. Hines bettered his qualifying time on a nice pass.

 (W) Larry Cook (Coyner's Auto Body Buell) 0.013 6.962 188.91
 (L) Karen Stoffer (Geico Suzuki) -0.039(R) 6.965 191.54
This is the first time Stoffer and Cook have faced each other. He is her 36th different opponent.

Stoffer went red and Cook made a very nice pass, better than his qualifying run for the win.

 (W) David Hope (VRoom Racing Buell) 0.007 6.986 187.70
 (L) Craig Treble (Team Scream Suzuki) 0.027 7.023 190.78
This is the second time Treble and Hope have faced each other. The first time was in Las Vegas, two weeks ago, and Hope won that one.

Hope drilled the tree and also ran better than he qualified.

 (W) Jim Underdahl (Suzuki Extended Protection S 0.026 7.059 191.29
 (L) Matt Smith (Nitrofish Suzuki) 0.052 7.413 147.29
Smith is 2-0 against Underdahl, 1-0 in round one. This is Underdahl's ninth start in 18 races and he qualified here with career bests for both speed and ET.

Smith had problems on his final qualifying run and this run was almost a duplicate, Smith slowing on the top end. Underdahl made a good run to pull off the upset.

 (W) Eddie Krawiec (Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hine 0.010 6.950 194.91
 (L) Steve Johnson (Steve Johnson Racing Suzuki) 0.031 6.977 191.19
Krawiec and Johnson have each won three times against the other. This is only the second time they have faced off in round one and Krawiec won the first one, in Brainerd two years ago. Krawiec trails Hector Arana by 62 points for the Full Throttle championship, with only 100 points left to claim. If Arana loses in round one, Krawiec must go to the finals and either win the event or set a national ET record to take the title.

Krawiec had the better light, but Johnson's bike was quicker over the first part of the track and he led for about 500 feet. Then Krawiec went by and pulled away for a critical win, keeping his hopes for repeating as the champion alive. Eddie Krawiec's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.021), 330 ft(-0.016), 660ft(0.008), 1,000ft(0.029). MOV: 0.0487 seconds (approximately 14 feet). He will have lane choice against Underdahl in round two.

 (W) Douglas Horne (Horne Racing Buell) 0.022 6.995 191.70
 (L) Freddie Camarena (Embee/Clay Smith Cams Suz 0.054 7.026 192.06
This is the first time Horne and Camarena have squared off against each other. Camarena is Horne's 14th different opponent, Horne is the 22nd different opponent for Camarena. This is Camarena's 38th start in 75 races and he qualified here with career-bests for both ET and speed.

Horne was away first and pulled away for the win. However, he won't have lane choice when he faces Hope in round two.

 (W) Hector Arana (Lucas Oil Buell) 0.011 6.910 192.00
 (L) Bailey Whitaker (Rum Bum Buell) 0.084 7.091 185.59
Arana and Whitaker have met twice before, both times in the first round, each winning once - Whitaker in Englishtown and Arana in Denver.

Arana leads Eddie Krawiec by 62 points for the Full Throttle championship and there are only 100 points left to claim - four round wins and a national record. If Arana takes any two of those off the table, the championship is his.

Arana made a big championship move here, with a very good light and a crushing run, running low ET of the round. He will have lane choice against Krawiec's teammate Andrew Hines in the quarterfinals and is one round win away from clinching the championship.

 (W) Junior Pippin (Stone Mtn & Granite Mtn HD B 0.045 7.133 187.76
 (L) Shawn Gann (Rum Bum Racing Buell) 0.044 7.318 185.97
Gann has faced Pippin twice before, both times in round one, and won both of those meetings.

They left together, but Gann's bike faltered right off the line and never did close the gap. Pippin will face Cook in t=round two, Cook has lane choice.

 (L) Larry Cook (Coyner's Auto Body Buell) -0.017(R) 7.072 169.98
This is the first time Pippin and Cook have met in eliminations.

Junior Pippin wins on a red light. He will not have lane choice against Horne in the semifinals.

 (W) Eddie Krawiec (Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hine 0.037 6.959 192.60
 (L) Jim Underdahl (Suzuki Extended Protection S 0.027 7.107 188.89
Krawiec is 3-0 against Underdahl. The two have never met in the second round before today. Krawiec has a slim shot at the championship if Arana loses in this round, but must win the event and set a national ET record.

Underdahl did all he could, but Krawiec had the muscle to take the lead before half track and pull away for the win.

 (W) Andrew Hines (Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines -0.004 7.044 192.69
 (L) Hector Arana (Lucas Oil Buell) -0.012(R) 7.224 154.51
Hines is 3-1 against Arana, 1-0 in round 2. Arana can clinch the championship with a win here.

Big upset, Arana went red and Krawiec's championship hopes stay alive. However, conditions do not appear to offer much hope for a national record today. Krawiec has lane choice against teammate Hines in the semifinals.

 W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

 (W) Douglas Horne (Horne Racing Buell) 0.012 6.940 192.55
 (L) Junior Pippin (Stone Mtn & Granite Mtn HD B 0.043 7.045 187.34
3:27 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 75 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 28.98 inches, adjusted altitude 2,485 feet, track temperature 87 degrees.

THis is the first time these two have faced each other and neither has ever won a national event. Pippin has been to one prior final round, Horne has been in two of them.

Horne led this wire to wire and won easily, going to his third final round.

 (W) Eddie Krawiec (Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hine 0.027 6.953 192.80
 (L) Andrew Hines (Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines -0.010(R) 6.968 191.62
Hines came in with a 7-6 record against teammate Krawiec and a 1-2 record in semifinal rounds, but the key item here was Krawiec's championship hopes. He needed to run at least a 6.918 to have a backup for a possible national ET record.

Hines went red and Krawiec made a good run, but he came up short of the ET required to back up a 6.850 and Hector Arana is the 2009 Full Throttle Pro Stock Motorcycle champion. Krawiec faces Horne for the event title and Horne has lane choice.

Krawiec has been in sixteen finals in his career and ten finals this year, winning four of them, all this year. Horne has been in two finals this year, is still looking for his first national event win. Krawiec is 6 - 1 against Horne in prior events and this is the first time they have met in a final round.

Horne went red by "a stinkin' thou'" and Krawiec made the run he was looking for last round. He gave Hector Arana a good race for the championship, came up two points short. Eddie Krawiec's incremental times: 60ft-1.082 sec., 330ft-2.889, 660ft-4.418/160.19 mph, 1,000ft-5.755. Ironically, after winning the national championship last year with no wins, he wins more events than anyone else in the category this year and comes up two points short. It's all in the timing...
