GAINESVILLE, Fla. - GAINESVILLE - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 41st annual NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Doug Foley Runs 3.891/312.35, Now #1
Right Lane: Bobby Lagana Jr. Runs 8.798/82.14, Now #2
5:59 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 72 percent, barometer 29.35 inches, adjusted altitude 2,080 feet, track temperature 79 degrees.
The setting sun has even peaked out behind some clouds for the start of this session of Top Fuel.
Lagana might need some Tylenol at the top end, he left a long stripe cupped tire marks after suffering a bunch of shake on that run. Nice pass for Foley - Doug Foley's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.188, 660ft-3.112/272.50 mph.
Left Lane: Pat Dakin Runs 4.458/192.60, Now #2
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 8.085/85.83, Now #3
Dakin's motor labored, then let go with a bunch of flame out the left side. The Safety Safari rolls, and we're down for our first cleanup of the day. 6:05 p.m.
During the cleanup John Force and NASCAR's own Kurt Busch were interviewed in front of the stands. It was vintage John Force, and Kurt more than held is own with John. Hopefully some of the exchange will show up on all the media outlets available. It was EPIC!!
Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 4.520/169.23, Now #3
Right Lane: B. Bernstein Runs 7.784/84.15, Now #4
Bernstein was off the loud pedal just before the 330-foot stripe, Grubnic was well past halfway before he lifted.
Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 4.208/203.40, Now #3
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 3.829/317.12, Now #1
The track temp in now 77 degrees...
Langdon's run is the 2nd quickest of his career, the speed is a new career best for the Lucas Oil Sponsored driver. Brown lifted early, the reason not clear from this vantage point.
Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.893/311.99, Now #3
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 4.258/245.76, Now #5
Morgan took quite awhile to backup after his burnout. Lucas lifted early, and had no chutes come out at the top end, but the shutdown area is nice and long here at Gainesville.
Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 3.823/318.02, Now #1
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 8.004/83.38, Now #10
Dixon won here in 2009...
Tony thundered all the way to the stripe, the header flames long and bright all the way.
Dixon lifted about the halfway point.
Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.846/315.49, Now #3
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 8.407/78.10, Now #13

Results for Qualifying Round 2

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - GAINESVILLE - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 41st annual NHRA Gatornationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: C. Karamesines No Time, Now #16
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Todd Paton No Time, Now #15
No Prior Run Weather conditions: air temperature 70 degrees, relative humidity 39 percent, barometer 29.45 inches, adjusted altitude 1,718 feet, track temperature 94 degrees. 1:04 p.m.
This is the first pass of the weekend for both Paton and The Greek. We've got shade on the track, a cloud has blocked the sun for the moment.
Wow that was a little scary, Karamesines had the engine let go, and may have gotten into some oil, the dragster vaulted over into Paton's lane in front of Paton. Thankfully Paton had room to slow in time, then Karamesines got back over in his lane, but Karamesines took out the cones at the stripe for both lanes, so neither driver will get a time slip for this round. We're down to clean up some "stuff" and replace several cones. 1:09 p.m.
Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 3.832/321.58, Now #3
Best prior run: 4.520/169.23, Was #9
Right Lane: Bobby Lagana Jr. Runs 6.057/104.66, Now #10
No Prior Run
1:11 p.m. Grubnic's digger did the classic little starting line hop with the front end at the launch, the first sign he was going to have a great run. The front wheels came back down, and Grubnic zoomed to career bests in both speed and ET for 1000 feet, and that is the fastest speed EVER to the 1000 foot mark. Nice!
David Grubnic's incremental times: 60ft-.859 sec., 330ft-2.170, 660ft-3.075/280.02 mph.
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.835/317.79, Now #4
No Prior Run Pat Dakin was scheduled to run with Cory in this round, his team decided to sit this one out so Cory will have a single in the right lane.
Cory made a big wiggle when he lifted at the finish line, it brought a gasp to the crowd, but he had the chutes out already. .853 60-foot time is the best of the round (so far).
Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.819/320.28, Now #1
Best prior run: 4.208/203.40, Was #8
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 7.363/94.82, Now #12
Best prior run: 8.085/85.83, Was #14 Brown's motor started smoking at the top end, but the bullet made it to the stripe and just let out a big cloud of smoke when he lifted off the loud pedal. McMillen lost traction and tried to pedal it, then lifted when the tires spun some more.
Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.856 sec., 330ft-2.162, 660ft-3.064/281.01 mph.
Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.971/297.29, Now #9
Best prior run: 3.893/311.99, Was #8
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 3.834/317.87, Now #5

Left Lane: Doug Foley Runs 9.297/77.55, Now #8
Best prior run: 3.891/312.35, Was #8
Right Lane: B. Bernstein Runs 3.914/314.46, Now #10
Best prior run: 7.784/84.15, Was #14 Foley lit up the big goodyear slicks in a cloud of tire smoke, Bernstein's run looked quicker than that, it was straight and smooth down the middle of the lane.
Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 7.133/88.80, Now #7
Best prior run: 3.846/315.49, Was #7
Right Lane: Morgan Lucas Runs 5.135/177.67, Now #11
Best prior run: 4.258/245.76, Was #11 Last night there was a great moment when Darrell Gywnn's dad backed up Doug after his burnout, then reached in and shook Doug's hand, just as he did years ago before every run with his own son. It's been a really cool weekend for the Kalitta and Gywnn combine. There will be a track walk tomorrow morning with most of the Pro Drivers tomorrow at 10:00 AM. A $20.00 (or larger) donation will get you out to walk the track with the drivers, all proceeds go to Darrell Gywnn's Foundation for Spinal Cord Injury research.
Doug smoked the tires this time around and had to lift. Morgan got further down track, then did the same thing.
Left Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 7.049/83.86, Now #2
Best prior run: 3.823/318.02, Was #2
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 8.963/78.34, Now #3
Best prior run: 3.829/317.12, Was #3 Both teams were a little too greedy off the starting line and smoked the tires. 1:36 p.m.
