ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - ENGLISHTOWN - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 41st annual NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Pat Musi Runs 7.577/193.85, Now #1
Right Lane: Dina Parise Runs 14.947/54.91, Now #2
7:23 p.m. - Both drivers launched and both shook the rear tires. Parise clicked it off, Musi pedaled one time.
Left Lane: Tommy Gray Runs 6.075/238.47, Now #2
Right Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 5.815/250.64, Now #1
Left Lane: Brad Personett Runs 6.106/249.44, Now #4
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 5.980/241.63, Now #2
Smith's car had a bit of a shimmy at mid track, but otherwise this looked like a nice run. Personett's pass looked good but was not up to speed.
Left Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 14.097/58.79, Now #7
Right Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 5.906/240.55, Now #2
Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 5.928/237.59, Now #3
Right Lane: Roger Burgess Runs 5.964/245.49, Now #4
Ray set his season best run with this run. This was Burgess's first run in NHRA Pro Mod competition.
Left Lane: Chip King Runs 5.972/237.92, Now #5
Right Lane: Tim Tindle Runs 5.995/237.46, Now #7
King carried the front wheels in the air for 200 feet or so. When he brought the front end down, the car drifted out of the groove. Tindle had a bit of shake and drove through it.
Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 5.943/242.23, Now #5
Right Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 5.938/243.55, Now #4
Hoover drifted a bit out of the groove but stayed with it.
Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 5.941/242.89, Now #5
Right Lane: Rick Stivers Runs 7.703/125.99, Now #14
Stiver drifted out of the groove and backed off the throttle. Janis took his car down the groove.
Left Lane: Joe Baker Runs 11.525/88.76, Now #16
Right Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 6.009/234.49, Now #11
Baker launched, shook the tires, pedaled it, got out of the groove, then clicked it off. Radford got out of the groove too but got back in to finish the run.
Left Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 7.138/205.57, Now #15
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 5.921/239.44, Now #3
Troxel got the front wheel in the air out of the gate. She pedaled it, brought the front wheels down, and got back onto the throttle to finish the run. Coughlin took his Camaro down the groove to move into the third spot in the order for now.
Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 14.350/48.12, Now #21
Right Lane: Kenny Lang Runs 5.957/243.37, Now #8
Pane launched and shook the tires, so he clicked it off. Lang had a cleaner run to sneak into the top half of the order, for now.
Left Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 5.848/249.26, Now #2
Right Lane: Von Smith Runs 5.980/244.78, Now #12
Rowe had a clean run to move into the number two spot.

2:37 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 49 percent, barometer 29.95 inches, adjusted altitude 2,439 feet, track temperature 106 degrees.Payne drifted out of the groove but stayed on the throttle to pull out a good run and move up 13 spots in the order.

Best prior run: 14.097/58.79, Was #24 Stivers got to mid track and slowed. Knowles moved up five spots but not enough to get into the show.
Left Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 6.124/198.90, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.009/234.49, Was #16
Right Lane: Joe Baker Runs 9.881/95.49, Now #24
Best prior run: 11.525/88.76, Was #24 Radford was not as quick as yesterday, so he'll stay on the bump spot. Baker got out to mid track, spun the tires, then started losing the engine. Baker will be going home and Radford has to hope no one bumps him. There are four drivers who are not in the field left waiting to make qualifying attempts.

Best prior run: 7.577/193.85, Was #22 Tindle got a little loose out of the gate but stayed with it. Musi had a good run down the groove to make the field and bump Radford. Tim Tindle is on the bump spot at 5.995.

Right Lane: Melanie Troxel Runs 5.986/244.03, Now #16
Best prior run: 7.138/205.57, Was #22 Troxel had a good run to sneak into the field. She's on the bump spot.

Best prior run: 6.075/238.47, Was #20 Gray's pass was not quick enough to make the field, Burgess' did not change is spot in the order. The field is set now as there are no non-qualified drivers left waiting to make their final qualifying runs.

Best prior run: 5.943/242.23, Was #9 Pontieri got out of the groove, then got back in to finish this run. Hoover took his car straight down his lane.
Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 5.959/238.30, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.921/239.44, Was #4
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 9.760/88.87, Now #7
Best prior run: 5.941/242.89, Was #7 Janis clicked it off at mid track after shaking the tires. Coughlin had a good looking run that did nothing to change his position in the qualifying order.
Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 5.913/240.55, Now #3
Best prior run: 5.906/240.55, Was #3
Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 28.058/36.02, Now #5
Best prior run: 5.928/237.59, Was #5 Ray launched and his car immediately went sideways. He clicked it off and managed to keep the car off the wall. Castellana had a nice pass but stayed where he was in the order.
Left Lane: Raymond Commisso Runs 5.978/245.72, Now #1
Best prior run: 5.815/250.64, Was #1
Right Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 13.971/50.38, Now #2
Best prior run: 5.848/249.26, Was #2 Rowe launched, shook the tires and clicked it off. Commisso was not as quick as yesterday, but stayed in the top spot in the order. That's the end of Pro Mod qualifying here this weekend and we ended up with an entire field in the fives for the first time.

After that, he pulled back in the lead and stayed there for the rest of the quarter mile.

Janis got really loose at 330 feet and had to back off the throttle to keep from going sideways. Lang was already ahead at that time, having had the quicker reaction time.

11:22 a.m. - Smith got out of the gate first and pulled away from Castellana as they traveled the quarter mile. Castellana's car made a little move at 330 feet and drifted out of the groove. By the time that happened, Smith was already well ahead in the race.
