CLERMONT, Ind. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 5 eliminations in MOPAR Hemi Super Stock Challenge at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 56th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil: W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed (W) Jim Daniels (SS/AH '68 Dart) 0.018 8.560 155.74 (L) David Barton (SS/AH '68 Barracuda) 0.027 8.559 155.15 7:57 p.m. Both drivers had good lights, but Daniels had a hundredth in hand at the tree and was only a thousandth slower than Barton at the stripe for another holeshot win on a day that almost ended before it began. Just minutes before the class pulled into the staging lanes, Daniels' car peeled off from the Mopar Hemi Challenge parade and exited via the 'short chute." Reportedly, the car was running badly because of a loose screw that lodged in the carburetor. He was able to get the problem sorted out just in time to pull back into the lanes just before the first pair of cars pulled across the ready line. The race was a close one all the way, but Barton was never able to get the nose of his Barracuda out in front of Daniels' Dart. Jim Daniels' incremental margins: 60ft(0.034), 330 ft(0.013), 660ft(0.006), 1,000ft(0.003). MOV: 0.0087 seconds (approximately 24 inches).
