Langdon gets away first, as usual, and leads Zizzo most of the way down the track. The engine gets unhappy near the top end and Zizzo flies on by. Neither car improves.

4:45 p.m. The call goes out to start the engines.

Three eight sixes are cheap! Both cars run within 0.005 of each other on a strong side by side to the finish line!

Nice!

A little too much shake and both cars click it early.

Schumacher had a strong 0.836 sixty foot and looked to be on his way, but he clicks it right after the 330 lights.

Grubnic had problems early and coasted on down.
Left Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 3.826/322.58, Now #1
Best prior run: 3.789/319.98, Was #1

Two great looking side by side passes to end the round. This would have made a great final round for Monday.

Brown was away first and was just a little slower than McClenathan all the way down the track.

CoryMac runs the quickest pass of the session and resets the track MPH record on a picture perfect pass for the conditions.

Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.164, 660ft-3.073/280.37 mph.

A great side by side pass with identical ET and near identical MPH. The Greek's fueler left with the front wheels up and ran a little quicker than Vandergriff to take the new bump spot on MPH.

Vandergriff was off the line first and had better incrementals all the way down, but slowed a little in the lights. Cool!

Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.206, 660ft-3.148/269.40 mph.

Grubnic runs within 0.001 of his best of the weekend to stay #3 on the ladder with a better MPH.

McMillien has strong numbers down low, but looked to have pushed out a head gasket down track. He move up five spots, but doesn't get into the top half of the field.

Shawn Langdon is on the bump spot at 3.914.

The US Army Ten Year Anniversary Top Fuel thunders to the second quickest time in TF history on a fantastic looking pass. That's good enough for the new number two spot.

Dakin's car is a little lazy down low and kicks the tires near the 660 lights. He stays #17.
Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 7.325/89.74, Now #12
Best prior run: 3.914/292.96, Was #12
Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 3.851/311.56, Now #7
Best prior run: 3.864/311.56, Was #8
Shawn Langdon is on the bump spot at 3.914, but won't improve as his Lucas Oil dragster strikes the tires right off the line.

Zizzo continues to run better and better. He matches his career best MPH and reset his best ET to move up a spot to the current #7 spot on the tough ladder.
Left Lane: Terry Haddock No Time, Now #19
Best prior run: 4.092/285.29, Was #19

Best prior run: 3.888/311.92, Was #11
Lucas's team swarm the car to repair a fuel leak to no avail.

Well, that just got weird, as Haddock car is then shut off too for a different leak and both cars are pushed back behind the line.

I don't remember that happening recently.
Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.830/306.05, Now #6
Best prior run: 3.866/313.22, Was #10

What a great looking pass for these two.

Bernstein is away first and thunders down the track into the new #3 position with both a career best ET and MPH.

Torrance runs extremely well too and just misses his career best to move up into the top half of the field.

Best prior run: 3.842/316.52, Was #8
Brown is away first and has strong numbers on the bottom side of the track until smoking the tires before the 660 lights to stay #4.

Kalitta get a major boost with a clean and straight pass to take over the new #6 spot.

Best prior run: 3.789/319.98, Was #1
Dixon strikes quick and hard to run close to his career best ET and a new personal best MPH. CoryMac was right there two the another improving ET and big MPH.

Haddock starts to drop cylinders off the line. There is a flash from the engine and that sails the blower belt up in the air and over the wall.

Buff has engine issues near the light and doesn't improve on his prior passes.

Lucas was shut off with an oil leak last night and missed a pass in those great conditions. The tires are up in smoke right at the 330 lights and he slows.

Langdon has another clean pass. He runs near his prior best with a much better MPH.

Zizzo gets away first and stays out there, but strikes the tire after mid-track.

McMillen has too much power for the set up and smokes the tires around the 330 mark.

No joy here...
Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 6.938/82.32, Now #6
Best prior run: 3.823/314.97, Was #6

These two went to school on the other teams struggles and lay down a great side by side pass to wrap up the session. This would have been a terrific final!

Bruce Litton is on the bump spot at 5.600.

Great run for Vandergriff at the last opportunity. A wire to wire straight and true pass into the current #13 spot.

Karamesines engine has the pipes go wet about three quarters of the way to the finish line, but it's good enough to get the bump spot for now.

Bob Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.211, 660ft-3.163/266.11 mph.
Chris Karamesines' incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.287, 660ft-3.297/229.00 mph.

One more gets in and one more doesn't.

McMillen gets a clean safe pass without drama to take over the current #15 position.

Dakin's dragster continues to struggle with clutch management repeatedly smoking the tire as he pumps the throttle.

Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.853 sec., 330ft-2.201, 660ft-3.185/256.84 mph.

Best prior run: 5.600/118.04, Was #20
Troy Buff is on the bump spot at 4.334.

It looked expensive, but Litton is in the field on a less than perfect pass. Looked like some carnage near the lights.

No joy for Novelli, as the car slows on the top end.

Luigi Novelli's incremental times: 60ft-0.858 sec., 330ft-2.193, 660ft-3.295/206.26 mph.

Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 10.974/61.35, Now #14
Best prior run: 4.011/285.29, Was #14
Right Lane: Troy Buff Runs 4.896/152.83, Now #17
Best prior run: 4.334/212.90, Was #17
Bruce Litton is on the bump spot at 4.194 and stays there.

Game over for both fuelers, with Haddock striking the tires right off the line.

Buff picked up the front wheels at the launch and powered on down to near the 660 lights, where the tires began to spin.
Left Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 6.522/100.40, Now #12
Best prior run: 3.914/292.96, Was #12

Best prior run: 3.888/311.92, Was #11
The final qualifying shuffle begins...

Lucas get the best of this pair of passes with a full pass, close to his prior best. Langdon's run is over early, with tire smoke near the 330 lights.

Morgan Lucas' incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.196, 660ft-3.123/274.05 mph.
Left Lane: Rod Fuller Runs 3.864/318.17, Now #9
Best prior run: 3.840/318.17, Was #9
Right Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 3.902/310.77, Now #10
Best prior run: 3.851/311.56, Was #10
A terrific side by side pass for both cars. They can't improve, but have a good tune up for tomorrow. Fuller matches his prior best MPH and just slows a little to stay #9.

Zizzo has another strong pass and may have lost the blower belt right near the lights.

Rod Fuller's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.180, 660ft-3.101/276.52 mph.
T.J. Zizzo's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.196, 660ft-3.123/273.11 mph.

Best prior run: 3.824/319.52, Was #7
Kalitta leaves hard and runs strong until near the finish line on a strong pass.

Torrance didn't have the same pace and slows early on the top end.

Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.213, 660ft-3.157/263.20 mph.

Brown is away first and makes a strong pass with a good MPH without incident.

Grubnic will be disappointed, as the tires are up in smoke right at the 330 lights.

Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.179, 660ft-3.132/269.29 mph.

Best prior run: 3.802/317.87, Was #4
No joy here. They leave almost together and run together and smoke the tires together, with identical 330 times.

Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.172, 660ft-3.307/189.63 mph.
Brandon Bernstein's incremental times: 60ft-0.857 sec., 330ft-2.172, 660ft-3.278/195.99 mph.

Best prior run: 3.784/323.66, Was #2
Last qualifying pair of the race and it's a bust with both cars striking the tires down track.

6:06 p.m. Bruce Litton is on the bump spot at 4.194.

Fuller has met Torrance twice in round one, winning both times.

We start the first round with the two middle of the ladder competitors. Only 0.010 difference in their best qualifying times.

Torrance gets a huge hole shot advantage over Fuller at the green and is never headed. He takes the decisive win by twenty eight feet.

Steve Torrence's incremental margins: 60ft(0.062), 330 ft(0.057), 660ft(0.060). MOV: 0.0616 seconds (approximately 28 feet).

Kalitta has a 2/0 advantage over Zizzo in round one encounters.

Another upset, with Zizzo cutting a stellar 0.034 TF light and just staying out in front in the lights. Two great passes, close to their qualifying times.

T.J. Zizzo's incremental margins: 60ft(0.029), 330 ft(0.036), 660ft(0.025). MOV: 0.0133 seconds (approximately 6 feet).

Brown has a 4/1 advantage over Langdon and they have never met in round one.

Hole shot wins are cheap today and it's Langdon's turn. As usual, he is away first and keeps the same incrementals at the 60 and 330 marks. Great race.

Shawn Langdon's incremental margins: 60ft(0.003), 330 ft(0.003), 660ft(0.013). MOV: 0.0061 seconds (approximately 3 feet).

 (L) Terry Haddock (Acme Refining Dragster) 0.072 5.567 131.22
Schumacher is 5/1 in round one races.

Order is restored, as Haddock's small hole shot isn't enough to stay out in front of the Army dragster.

Schumacher is out in front before sixty feet and makes the best run of the round in the easy win. Haddock's car got loose near the 330 lights and moved close to the guard rail.

Tony Schumacher's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.026), 330 ft(0.128), 660ft(0.786). MOV: 1.7467 seconds (more than 100 feet).

Dixon has a 10/0 record over Litton. Five times in round one.

Litton gets away first and the begins to slow noticeably by the 660 lights. Dixon matches Schumacher's time in a clean and straight pass and will have lane choice over Torrance in round 2.

Larry Dixon's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.003), 330 ft(0.052), 660ft(0.096). MOV: 0.1414 seconds (approximately 59 feet).

 (L) Terry McMillen (Amalie Oil Dragster) 0.076 9.292 87.41
McClenathan has defeated McMillen the three times they have met in round one.

McMillen kicks the tire loose at the green and slows. McClenathan shows the Fram power and storms to the finish line with the best times, so far. He will have lane choice over Zizzo next round.

Cory McClenathan's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.106), 330 ft(1.620), 660ft(3.583). MOV: 5.4733 seconds (more than 100 feet).

 (L) Bob Vandergriff (C&J Energy Services Dragst 0.070 3.895 313.66
Bernstein and Vandergriff have met ten times, with Brandon winning them all. Six times in round one.

Bernstein is out in front before the sixty foot rights and pulls steadily ahead over an improving Vandergriff. Both cars are clean through the lights and Bernstein will keep lane choice over Langdon in round two.

Brandon Bernstein's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.008), 330 ft(0.029), 660ft(0.035). MOV: 0.0441 seconds (approximately 20 feet).

Grubnic and Lucas have a eight to eight tie historically, with a seven to three first round advantage for Grubnic.

Lucas gets a stellar light and is staying out in front, when Grubnic's slicks begin to smoke right before the 660 lights. He was catching Morgan too.

Bernstein is 3 - 0 against Langdon in prior events and 1 - 0 in round two.

Bernstein's has a big problems after his burnout, as the front wheels flop and the car makes a hard move backwards. He tries again, to no avail and clicks it.

Langdon is a sitting duck, as the tires spin and the blower bangs right after the 330 lights. There is a bunch of "Stuff" on the track all the way to the past the 1320, where the car stopped on the track. This might take a while.

 (W) Larry Dixon (Al-Anabi Racing Dragster) 0.111 3.830 319.37

Dixon will have lane choice over Langdon in round three.

Schumacher is 23 - 5 against Lucas in prior events and 11 - 2 in round two.

Schumacher is on his best and gets away first and stays there from start to finish with another strong three eighty pass. Lucas' chances go away before the 330 lights, as the Goodyears start to smoke.

McClenathan is 3 - 0 against Zizzo in prior events and they have never met in round two.

They leave together with RT's within 0.001 and Zizzo gets the Army car a good race early on. The Fram car marches on down the track with the best ET of the round for a big win. He'll have lane choice later over Schumacher.

Cory McClenathan's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.019), 330 ft(0.033), 660ft(0.058). MOV: 0.0874 seconds (approximately 40 feet). Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.161, 660ft-3.068/280.02 mph.

Dixon is 5 - 2 against Langdon in prior events and have never met in round three.

Langdon gets his signature hole shot over Dixon and leads him until near the 660 lights. The engine gets unhappy at that point and starts to push headgaskets out.

Dixon powers on by for a win into the final round.

Larry Dixon's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.010), 330 ft(-0.004), 660ft(0.011). MOV: 0.0370 seconds (approximately 17 feet).

Schumacher is 29 - 16 against McClenathan in prior events and 8 - 1 in the third round.

Wild race for the other position in the final round. They cut identical RT's and Cory Mac starts to slowly pull ahead to near mid-track where they both start to spin the tires. Lots of pumping and stabbing the throttles the rest of the way to the finish line and the Fram car gets the nod by about a car length.

Cory McClenathan's incremental margins: 60ft(0.009), 330 ft(0.039), 660ft(0.049). MOV: 0.0648 seconds (approximately 22 feet).

4:55 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 88 degrees, relative humidity 30 percent, barometer 29.05 inches, adjusted altitude 3,413 feet, track temperature 121 degrees.

After a long week of racing, we come down to the last pair of race cars for the weekend.

Dixon has a six to two advantage over McClenathan in final rounds. This is Dixon's tenth final of the year and Cory Mac's seventh. They have met three times already this year, recently at the 2010 Lucas Oil Nations in Brainerd, MN. This is the fifth time in Indy history that the number one and number two qualifiers have met in the final round, with the #1 qualifier winning three times. Most notable was the Garlits vs. Carbone burn down.

What a great race! Dixon had lane choice and made the most of it. He was away first by 0.017 and steadily pulled ahead all the way to the finish line on a great side by side race. McClenathan was right there waiting for any fault by Dixon, but it was not to be.

Larry Dixon is the 2010 Top Fuel Champion.
