Left Lane: Doug Winters Runs 6.455/217.25, Now #2
Right Lane: Rick Stivers Runs 6.177/231.95, Now #1
4:16 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 86 degrees, relative humidity 43 percent, barometer 28.53 inches, adjusted altitude 126 feet, track temperature 126 degrees.Stivers goes right down the groove to set the early pace.
Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.468/216.51, Now #3
Right Lane: Roger Burgess No Time, Now #4
Burgess can't get the car in reverse after the burnout and drives off the end of the track. Ray was moving around early in the run but got the car under control before he reached half track.
Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.088/237.67, Now #1
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 9.866/86.09, Now #5
King gets about 200 feet out, strikes the tires and makes a move toward the center line. Janis goes right down the groove with a good run for the conditions to take the pole for now.
Left Lane: Jay Payne Runs 9.485/92.75, Now #6
Right Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 6.047/239.65, Now #1
Payne gets out of the groove early, makes a move to the left, then back to the right before backing off the throttle. Knowles makes a clean pass and moves into the top spot for now.
Left Lane: Pete Farber Runs 6.103/239.27, Now #3
Right Lane: Steve Matusek Runs 7.231/201.43, Now #7
Matusek hit the throttle, the missed and popped for about 100 feet, then finally cleared up. Farber made a clean run and moves into the third spot.
Left Lane: Donald Walsh Runs 6.119/247.20, Now #5
Right Lane: Donald Martin Runs 6.073/238.64, Now #2
Martin moved to the right, then back to the left, then got it under control and moves into the second spot for now. Walsh made a clean run and gets in the fifth spot for now.
Left Lane: Kenny Lang No Time, Now #14
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.025/248.84, Now #1
Lang staged, Coughlin started to stage and blinked the bottom bulb, then Lang hit the throttle before the tree came down. Coughlin staged and went right down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far to take the pole for now.
Left Lane: Leah Pruett Runs 9.083/118.93, Now #12
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 5.959/239.53, Now #1
Pruett had traction problems early in the run and clicked it off. Smith makes an impressive run, the first in the 5's and takes the pole for now.
Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 6.030/237.71, Now #4
Right Lane: Danny Rowe Runs 6.000/240.68, Now #2
A good side-by-side here, both right down the groove. Rowe just misses getting in the 5's and will be in the second spot to end this session.

Best prior run: 9.866/86.09, Was #16
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 6.123/237.46, Now #11
Best prior run: 9.485/92.75, Was #15
6:46 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 85 degrees, relative humidity 42 percent, barometer 28.54 inches, adjusted altitude 4,003 feet, track temperature 110 degrees.King drifted left all the way through the run but was able to keep the car off the wall. He goes through the lights, the chutes fail to deploy and he goes into the sand trap. He rolls through the sand trap, tears a hole in the first safety net, then finally stops in the second net. Payne made a decent pass and gets in the 11th spot for now.

Best prior run: 9.083/118.93, Was #16 Matusek gets about 400 feet out, the engine backfires a couple of times and he backs off the throttle. Pruett goes right down the groove and moves all the way to the fourth spot for now.
Left Lane: Donald Martin Runs 5.976/242.80, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.073/238.64, Was #8
Right Lane: Doug Winters Runs 7.432/125.68, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.455/217.25, Was #14 Winters gets to half track and the car noses over, not sure why. Martin goes right down the groove and moves into the third spot for now.
Left Lane: Mike Knowles Runs 6.044/239.44, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.047/239.65, Was #8
Right Lane: Donald Walsh Runs 8.328/112.84, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.119/247.20, Was #11 Walsh gets out of the groove, makes a move toward the centerline, then backs off the throttle. Knowles makes another nice pass but stays in the eighth spot.

Best prior run: 6.103/239.27, Was #10 This was a good side-by-side. Farber leaves first, has the quicker sixty foot time, then Coughlin starts to reel him in and goes around near the end of the run.Troy Coughlin's incremental times: 60ft-1.033 sec., 330ft-2.730,

Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 7.636/120.72, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.088/237.67, Was #10 Janis drifts out of the groove, slowly moves toward the center line, then backs off the throttle about 600 feet out. Rowe goes right down the groove with another good run and moves up a spot to fourth.
Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 5.900/240.85, Now #1

Right Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 5.974/238.01, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.030/237.71, Was #8 Smith makes an impressive run, right down Broadway, and takes the pole to end this session. Castellana improves and moves up to the eighth.
