Entire 1986 schedule to be televised

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- National television coverage of all 14 NHRA national events featuring professional competition became a reality this week with the announcement of the addition of a six-race package in 1986 with USA Network of New York.

A balanced mix of network, syndicated, and cable telecasts throughout the year will result in unprecedented exposure for the sport of championship drag racing. A total of 21 telecasts will originate from the 14 races in 19.86, with 21.5 hours of first-run programming. There will be a total of 2 repeated shows during the year, for an overall'total of 63 telecasts totaling a massive 78.5 hours of programming.

"It's the realization of a longtime dream, to be able to present the entire NHRA Winston Series of national events on television," said NHRA President Dallas Gardner in announcing the 1986 plans. "We are indeed fortunate to be aligned with the finest motorsports television packager in the business in Diamond P Sports, and we are proud to announce the best television package that was attainable for the new year."
