The 1975 NHRA Winston World Finals at Ontario Motor Speedway was one of the greatest -- and even today, maybe
the greatest -- national events in NHRA history. The first all-five-second Top Fuel field, the first 250-mph Top Fuel clocking, the first five-second, 240-mph Funny Car effort, and the first sub-5.70 Top Fuel times went into the books in Ontario.
"Big Daddy" Don Garlits (pictured) celebrated history's first NHRA Winston Top Fuel championship with runs of 5.63 and 250.63 mph that stood for years while Don Prudhomme capped his first title season with Funny Car's first five-second pass, and Bob Glidden notched a repeat Pro Stock crown with an impossible come-from behind score.
