Don "the Snake" Prudhomme, who in 1975 won six of eight events, capped one of the most incredible winning seasons in the history of drag racing by scoring his seventh triumph of the 1976 season in eight starts. Prudhomme, whose victory at the Winston World Finals at Ontario Motor Speedway also was his record 21st career NHRA national event victory, lost only once all year, in the final round of the U.S. Nationals.
Prudhomme and his Bob Brandt-tuned U.S. Army Monza dominated the field and scored their second straight Finals victory with a final-round victory over Ed "the Ace" McCulloch.
