The 1980 NHRA Winston Top Fuel championship battle entered the final event of the season, the NHRA Winston World Finals at Ontario Motor Speedway, a four-way dogfight between Gary Beck, Jeb Allen, Marvin Graham, and Shirley Muldowney.
The last drag race to be held at the fabled Southern California speedplant more than lived up to that reputation as Muldowney (pictured) blasted from third place in the standings to first to capture her second Winston championship. Despite running four rounds of eliminations with a cracked camshaft, Muldowney and her crew capped their title drive the way they began their season: in the winner's circle.
