John Force already had two championship belts to his credit in the fall of 1993 and was looking for a third when he finally did something he'd dreamed of all his life: He won the U.S. Nationals.
Force clinched one of the biggest races of what still was a legendary career in the making when he defeated a surprising challenger in the final: Tokyo, Japan, resident Kenji Okazaki, driver of the Jim Dunn-tuned Mooneyes Dodge Daytona. Okazaki, who had made his Pro debut at the '92 Indy event, where he had failed to qualify, lost a heartbreaking final to Force but won legions of new fans.
