Kurt Johnson made drag racing history May 20 by recording Pro Stock's first six-second run, a 6.988, at the Mopar Parts Nationals. Johnson made his barrier-breaking pass during Friday evening's qualifying session to earn $25,000 as the first member of the Holley 6-Second Pro Stock Club.
The six-second blast was just the beginning of a dream weekend. K.J. won the $50,000 Budweiser Challenge Saturday, where his winning time of 7.03 backed up the 6.98 for the national record, earning him $7,500 from Slick 50's World Record Club. Add in the $3,000 low-qualifier funds and $5,500 for making it to the semi's, and Johnson earned $91,000 for his weekend's work.
