John Force has long been known as the king of the Funny Car class, but he extended that superiority over both nitro-burning classes at the inaugural Winston No Bull Showdown in Bristol, Tenn., a special no-points race that pitted Funny Cars against Top Fuelers for a huge purse.
Force won a tire-spinning, pedaling final-round match against Top Fuel's Bob Vandergriff Jr., 5.47 to 5.87, to pocket the $200,000 winner's share. "I've won Indy and I've won eight championships, but this is the biggest deal of my career," Force said. "The dragsters are the kings of the sport, and we aren't going to change that, but for this weekend, Funny Cars rule."
