Final Eliminations:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Force, Newberry claim wins

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - In the final results from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event being held this weekend at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Top Alcohol Dragster driver Ashley Force and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Bob Newberry emerged as two of the weekend's big winners.

Force, who was the defending champion here, powered past Baldwin, Pa., runner Mark Albert to earn her first Lucas Oil series victory of the year. In the final, Force earned the win by laying down a 5.450 second pass at 257.63 mph to Albert's off pace 11.932 second run at 58.86 mph. En route to her final round victory, Force eliminated Mike Kosky in round one and Dan Mercier in the semifinal round before then taking out Albert in the final. Force, who hails from Yorba Linda, Calif., is the daughter of 13-time NHRA Funny Car Champion John Force.

In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Newberry earned a key win when he defeated Lebanon Valley and Cecil County runner-up David Ray in the class final. In the final, Newberry ran 5.798 seconds at 254.09 mph to take out Ray, who fouled. Today's win is Newberry's third Northeast Division victory of the year and the points earned will help him dramatically in his run for the NHRA Northeast Division and national Funny Car championships. Newberry's closest challenger in the points chase for both championships, nine-time national champ Frank Manzo of Morganville, was eliminated in the opening round, allowing Newberry to gain significant ground and valuable Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series points.

Other winners at this weekend's event were Joe Carnasciale of Cranston, R.I., in Comp Eliminator; Dan Fletcher of Churchville, N.Y., in Super Stock; Todd Hoven of Spotswood, N.J., in Stock Eliminator; Rich Biebel of Succasunna, N.J., in Super Comp; John Michaels of Holbrook, N.Y., in Super Gas and Lynn Hoosigian of Newington, Conn., in Super Street.

The NHRA Northeast Division will wrap up the 2005 season October 7-9 at Atco Raceway in Atco, N.J.  It will be the last opportunity for racers to earn valuable in-division points toward divisional and national championships. Division 1 Lucas Oil race slated for Raceway Park

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J.Old Bridge Township Raceway Park will host the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series September 9-11.  The event is the sixth of seven on the NHRA Northeast Division schedule.  It will feature more than 500 drivers in eight categories including 260 mph Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars.  Drivers will compete for valuable points leading to divisional and national championships.

Throughout the season there has been a four-way battle brewing in the Top Alcohol Dragster class.  Fanwood, N.J., racer Karen Benkovich, Dave DeAngelis of Middlesex, N.J., Dan Mercier from St. Timothee, Que., and Art Gallant of Boxboro, Mass., are all in contention for the division's 2005 crown.  Gallant is the only driver out of the four who has earned a championship in the past.  In 2002 he won both the national and divisional championships.

In Top Alcohol Funny Car, there is a familiar chase for the crown between Bob Newberry and Frank Manzo.  Newberry, a Schenectady, N.Y., resident, has had the lead through most of the season but Morganville, N.J., resident Manzo has been right on his heels.  The veteran drivers both know what it takes to earn championships.  Manzo has 15 division crowns and Newberry has 11.  On the national championship side, Manzo has 9 crowns, more than any other Lucas Oil Series competitor, and Newberry has earned two.

Gates at Raceway Park open at 8 a.m. each day and qualifying and time trials start Friday at 10 a.m. for Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street.  Comp Eliminator will qualify at 5 p.m. Friday.  On Saturday, qualifying and time trials continue at

The NHRA Northeast Division will wrap up the 2005 season October 7-9 at Atco Raceway in Atco, N.J.  It will be the last opportunity for racers to earn valuable in-division points toward divisional and national championships.
