JOLIET, Ill. – Route 66 Raceway will host the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, June 12-14.  The race is the third of six in NHRA North Central division competition and will feature drivers in eight categories, including Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, vying for points leading to divisional and national championships.  The division's Dart Top Sportsman Series and Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series will also run in conjunction with the event.

Reigning Top Alcohol Dragster national champion Bill Reichert, Owosso, Mich., is handily leading the charge in the division points with more than 150 points on the second place racer, Ken Perry of Richmond Hill, Ont.  Reichert, who earned his third straight national championship in 2008, lost the division title to Marty Thacker of Robinson, Ill.  On the division level this year, Reichert has recorded three wins in four races.  He won the division's season opener at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis and out-of-division races in Richmond, Va., and Reading, Pa., before taking a first-round loss at the division's last event at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.  Perry has only been to two events so far and went to the semis in Indy and scored the win in Norwalk.

Top Alcohol Funny Car boasts a much tighter points battle.  Demotte, Ind., resident Mick Snyder has a slim 11-point lead over defending division champ Bobby Martin of Beaver Falls, Pa.  Snyder, a former NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League competitor and former division champion, has three races under his belt this season.  He went to an out-of-division race in Cecil, Ga., where he went to the semis; was runner-up to Martin at the division's race in Indy; and suffered a first-round loss in Norwalk.  Martin, along with his win at the season kick off, went to the semis in Norwalk.

Gates at Route 66 Raceway open at 8 a.m. each day.  Qualifying and time trials start Friday at 10 a.m. and continue Saturday at 9 a.m.  Drivers in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will qualify once on Friday, at 5 p.m., and twice on Saturday, at 5 and 8 p.m.  Eliminations begin Sunday morning at 8.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 1 p.m.
