New dad Line turns attention to season-opener

Pomona, prerace: Due to the birth of his first child, Jack Vincent Line, Jason Line, driver of the KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO, got a late start on his preseason testing.

Line didn’t arrive into Las Vegas until Monday but quickly made up for the lost time and feels that he is ready for the 2006 season-opening CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway on the grounds of the LA County Fairplex in Pomona, Calif., this weekend.

“I can honestly say that testing took a back seat to my wife and I enjoying being first-time parents,” said Line, who finished second in the 2004 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point standings and third in 2005.

“Greg (Anderson, teammate) has been testing a good deal over the off-season and spent a couple more days on the track in Vegas than I did. Since both cars are set up nearly identical, what he learned in my absence can be applied to my car, so we’re not as behind as it may seem. I did miss some seat time, but that’s about it.”

Now the new papa looks to Pomona and the start of the 23-race NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. “This new season looks tighter than ever and you can’t single out one individual who is going to run away with things,” said Line. “There are too many good cars.

“I’m cautiously optimistic about Pomona. We’ve had the most productive off-season that we’ve ever had. Now we must translate any new found gains to the race track.”
