Pedregon exits early at Pomona

Pomona, Sunday: Tony Pedregon, owner and driver of the Q Funny Car, qualified strong in the No. 4 position going into Sunday’s season-opening CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals at the Auto Club Raceway.

The Q Funny Car ran a 4.713-second, 327.19 mph effort, qualifying fourth in the quickest Funny Car field in NHRA history. Pedregon faced Del Worsham in the first round where he is 25-14 against Worsham.  Pedregon also opened the 2006 NHRA POWERade season with 298 round wins. However, a slight misread in data sent the Q Funny Car to an early first-round loss.

“Our problem in the first round stemmed from a misreading from our weather station,” said Pedregon, 2003 NHRA Funny Car champion. “The end result was the car having more power that it needed and losing traction. Locating the problem makes this much easier to fix. I am very encouraged going to Phoenix. I know that we can run with anyone.”

In 2005, Pedregon and the Q Power race team finished seventh in points with two wins, No. 1 qualifier three times, and recorded the second quickest elapsed time in NHRA history at 4.680 seconds in Chicago.
