Antron Brown Matco Tools dragster

Gainesville, Friday: Antron Brown, aboard his U.S. Army Suzuki, took the provisional Pro Stock Motorcycle pole position here Friday after the first day of qualifying for the ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.

Brown laid down a 7.046-second pass at 189.19 mph during the second session and in the process set himself up for his initial pole of the 2006 season.

"I actually didn't think it was going to be that good of a run," said the New Jersey native. "At the top end of the track, I drifted towards the center and I figured I scrubbed off time. But, we'll certainly take it. This U.S. Army team worked incredibly hard in the off-season in an effort to get us off on the right foot for the season."
