Houston, Saturday: U.S. Army Pro Stock Motorcycle pilot Angelle Sampey qualified first for Sunday's running of the O'Reilly Spring Nationals here at Houston Raceway Park.

Sampey entered Saturday's final qualifying action 15th in the order, but she turned in a track-record setting 7.038-second pass at 190.59 mph in the first session of the day to jump to the number one position.

"From zero to hero," she said with a chuckle. "Truthfully, I didn't think that run was going to be as quick as it turned out. I got a bit out of shape early in the run, so I thought that hurt me. But, I'm definitely happy to be where we're at and even happier that Antron ended up second."

Sampey takes on 16th-place qualifier, Geno Scali, in round one of eliminations.
