Gilby wants to stay on a roll

Las Vegas, prerace: Bob Gilbertson is really looking forward to this weekend's SummitRacing.com Nationals at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and for good reason.

Not only is he coming off of a final round appearance at Houston that boosted him to eighth in the NHRA POWERade points standings but he'll also be celebrating his birthday on Friday.

"We learned at lot at Houston and I'm confident that we'll be able to continue the momentum in Vegas," Gilbertson said. "The new tire mandated by Goodyear has really thrown a lot of the teams a curve ball and we had a hard time adapting to it. I think we finally figured out what the new tire likes and we're going to take that data and try to improve on it at Vegas."

"I'd love to celebrate my birthday this weekend with a good E.T. and hopefully a win," Gilbertson added. "Vegas is a great track, one of my favorites and our goal is to go rounds and maybe even win this race."

Gilbertson's co-crew chiefs Nick Boninfante Jr. and Tommy Delago affectionately known as the "Super Mario Brothers" are also enthusiastic about going to Vegas.

"Vegas is a great track known for good traction and atmospheric conditions that will allow us to really turn the wick up," Boninfante said. "If the conditions are right I'm sure we'll be able to make our best runs ever this weekend."

Delago echoed Boninfante's comments.

"I just can't wait to Vegas," Delago said. "Vegas is a track where you can really lean on it and we want to step up our program. We're not going to go crazy but instead take baby steps and make sure that Bob has a car he can win with."
