Dixon finishes second Friday, posts fastest speed of 2006 season
Las Vegas, Friday: Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion and four-time winner at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Larry Dixon blasted to his fastest pass of the 2006 NHRA season Friday at The Strip at LVMS as he qualified his Miller Lite dragster in the provisional No. 2 qualifying position. The 38-time NHRA winner opened qualifying by driving his Don Bender-tuned dragster to its fastest pass of the 2006 NHRA season when the Miller Lite rail stopped The Strip at LVMS timers in 4.528 seconds at a blistering 330.80 mph to claim the No. 2 qualifying position following the first of four scheduled attempts. The veteran racer’s rail overpowered the track on Friday’s second qualifying effort, but “The day went great because of the cars performance on the first lap,” “The speed is nice. It shows that Donnie has the engine running nice. With the rev limiter, that’s the tell-tale sign that the engine is happy. He’s doing a great job. The game plan for tomorrow is to improve upon the 4.52.”
