Related birthday present: qualifying
Gilbertson, who turned 51 on Friday, was happy with his performance as his Autolite/Prestone Dodge Stratus went down the track three out of four qualifying runs. "A lot of guys are still having problems with the new tire but I believe we've finally got it figured out and I look forward to racing John Force tomorrow," Gilbertson said. "My guys have been doing a great job getting the car prepared and I think we've now got a car that if the driver does his job will be able to go rounds tomorrow." Gilbertson's co-crew chiefs Nick Boninfante and Tommy Delago are equally optimistic. "Our lucky horseshoe is still around," Delago said. "In retrospect I think we were over thinking the new tire which kind of put us behind a little bit but now we seem to be on the right track. We've got to run John Force in the first round tomorrow and we're looking for a low eighty so if Force stumbles we're going to be right there." "Gilby has been doing a great job driving the past few races, he's really doing a good job behind the wheel," Boninfante added. "Tommy and Gilby go over everything that might happen before every run and he knows what he has to do if something happens. Having a game plan has made a big difference and I'm sure we'll be in the thick of things tomorrow."
