Wilkerson unlucky in Vegas

Las Vegas, Saturday: Tim Wilkerson is not a betting man, and it's a good thing.  If he had bet on his Levi, Ray & Shoup Funny Car at the SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, he would have lost his money.  For the third NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event in a row, Wilkerson did not make the show.  Wilkerson's two passes today, a 9.136, followed by a 4.982 were not good enough for him to be a player on race day.

"This is just killing us," expressed a disheartened Wilkerson.  "It's hard on everybody.  I'm down, the crew's down, the sponsors are going to be down, if they're not already.  Although everyone's very understanding, they know this thing isn't easy.  Dick (Levi) knows we're doing everything we can, and he's very supportive.

"I have beaten this thing to death and I am sick of beating on it.  You haven't had to be fast to win, you just have to be there, and I'm just giving it away.  I think my car hates me.  So, we need to step back and look over everything, and maybe we need to start all over again."

The frustrated Wilkerson will have the next two weeks at his Springfield, Ill. shop to pour over his data and go over his hot rod with a fine-tooth comb to try to determine how to turn his beautiful Levi, Ray & Shoup Monte Carlo into a Funny Car to be reckoned with in the heat of competition.
