Anderson surprised in the first round

Las Vegas, Sunday: It wasn’t the way you draw them up on the board.  The No. 16 qualifier isn’t suppose to win over the No. 1 qualifier; but No. 16 Greg Stanfield defeated the No. 1 qualifier Greg Anderson for the second time in three meetings this season, ending Anderson’s bid for a third win at the spring NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals.

Stanfield took a .045 second advantage at the start and used that advantage to turn back the reigning and three-time Pro Stock champion Anderson on a holeshot on the quarter-mile that at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway .  It was a 6.801-second run for Anderson to a 6.817- second pass for Stanfield.  The margin of victory was just under four hundredths of a second.

“Once again Stanfield did a great job of driving,” said Anderson following the opening round.  “We finally have this Summit Pontiac back on track, but the driver didn’t do his job.  The car is happy, the driver isn’t.”
