Gilbertson smokes tires, now ninth in points
Las Vegas, Sunday: After being one of the few cars that went down the track consistently during qualifying, Bob Gilbertson's Autolite/Prestone Dodge Stratus smoked the tires against 13 time champion John Force in the first round of the SummitRacing.com Nationals at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Gilbertson gave it his all and had a slight holeshot off the line but the tires broke loose and allowed Force to motor on for the win. "The car hooked up initially and I thought everything was OK but all of a sudden it went into shake and it was over," Gilbertson said. "We gave it our best shot but it just wasn't enough, we'll now go to Gilbertson's co-crew chief Nick Boninfante was also disappointed. "We had to get a little more aggressive for the first round which you have to do when you run Force but the track was a little more slippery than it was yesterday and it bit us," Boninfante said. "The new tire is pretty edgy and we went to the line with what we thought would go down the track but we went a little to far and it cost us."
