Jim Yates Wiley X Eyewear Pontiac GXP

Bristol, Saturday: Jim Yates continued his good Pro Stock qualifying performances, this time at Bristol Dragway, recording the sixth-quickest time for Sunday's O'Reilly's Thunder Valley Nationals.

Yates drove the SeaRay Boats/B&W Pontiac GTO to a 6.746-second time at 204.20 mph and a first-round match against V. Gaines (12th, 6.752 at 204.26 mph).

"We are enthused with our performance," said the driver from Occoquan, Va.  "We are almost there.  We are about four or five-thousandths from where we want to be.  We'll try to figure out the track Sunday."

Yates, with engine horsepower and tuning from veteran Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, put up his quickest time Friday night.  He is currently fifth in POWERade Series points
