Dixon finishes sixth, posts top speed of opening day
Following a brief rain delay, the three-time winner of the Atlanta NHRA race (1996, 2002-03) opened the day in the No. 13 position after his Miller-backed rail lost traction on its opening attempt of the weekend. Then, under the lights at "Georgia's House of Speed," the 38-time NHRA winner used a tune-up from crew chief Don Bender to record the 4.559, 329.10 effort, positioning the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil dragster in the No. 6 qualifying position.
