Wilkerson sits in No. 12 spot

Englishtown, Friday: Tim Wilkerson made it down the track on both runs today, putting the Levi, Ray & Shoup Monte Carlo in the No. 12 spot at the close of the first day of qualifying at the K&N Filters SuperNationals.

On the day's first pass, Wilkerson was one of the few Funny Cars to make it down the track without smoking the tires.  He posted a 5.152 at 287.35 mph.  On the night pass, Wilkerson improved to a 4.867 at 320.20 mph.

"We were just trying to do our deal," said Wilkerson, "and on the first run it dropped a hole and on the second run I got it a little bit too lean down there and it burnt the heads up a little bit.  But it still was a pretty nice run.  I was trying to go a little faster than that but we still can't get the thing moving early without getting into trouble, so we just quit trying.  We just gave up on it.  Instead, we just tried to make it run through the middle, and it worked.

"It's going to be even hotter tomorrow and I sure am glad were in the show because the bump's a 90 and that's going to be hard to run tomorrow.  But we're just going to try and make two more runs and do what we do best."
