Tony Schumacher U.S. Army dragster

St. Louis, Friday: Tony "The Sarge" Schumacher, aboard his U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster, claimed the sixth starting spot after the opening day of qualifying for the O'Reilly Midwest Nationals here at Gateway International Raceway.

Schumacher, who is the defending NHRA POWERade Top Fuel world champion, recorded a 4.652-second jaunt at 321.42 mph during the evening session to slide into the upper half of the field.

"After struggling in the first session, it was good to get down the track without any issues at night," said the Chicago resident. "I truly believe that we're getting a handle on this U.S. Army car. We're certainly still looking for that break out weekend. Maybe, this will be it."
