Bob Gilbertson Tradicion Azul Monte Carlo

Seattle, prerace: Funny Car racer Bob Gilbertson was born and raised in the Northwest and he's returning to his roots this weekend for the Shucks Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Pacific Raceways.

Gilbertson, who is coming off of an impressive semifinal round finish last weekend at Denver, is looking to keep the momentum going and with literally hundreds of family and friends coming to the races to cheer him on, he and his Autolite XP Spark Plugs/Prestone Antifreeze team are optimistically confident.

"I've said this for quite a while, we're going to be a threat during this series of races," Gilbertson said. "We've got a good hot weather tune-up and Denver proved just how good we are. With a little luck maybe we can even win this race and to do it in front of my family would make it really special."

Gilbertson's co crew chief Nicky Boninfante is also equally optimistic about their chances in Seattle.

"With the set-up we have right now I wouldn't be surprised at all if we went rounds at Seattle and with a little luck maybe even win this deal," Boninfante said. "Tommy (Delago, co crew chief) and I are taking baby steps refining what we have right now and we're going in the right direction. Hopefully that direction stops at the winner's circle at Pacific Raceways."
