Vandergriff sitting in No. 4 position
Seattle, Friday: After a second scorching weekend in a row on the famed Western Swing on the NHRA POWERade tour, Bob Vandergriff Jr. drove his UPS Top Fueler into the No. 4 position during Friday's first day of qualifying at the Schuck's Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Pacific Raceways. With a 135 degree track temperature, Vandergriff and most all of the dragsters struggled during the first session. As the sun ceased baking the asphalt for the evening session, the Jim Dupuy-tuned digger blasted down tree-lined racetrack posting a 4.660 second pass at 316.38 mph.
"We are certainly happy to be back in the top half of the field," said Vandergriff. "The guys really have a grip on the racecar. It'll be interesting to see how we can get the car ready for raceday during Saturday's afternoon sessions in the heat."
