Lucas experiences early exit

Indianapolis, Monday: After a great race week of drag racing consistency that saw 22-year old Morgan Lucas qualify ninth with a superb time of 4.543 seconds in NHRA’s biggest race of the season, the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, saw it all come to an unfortunate end on Labor Day Monday with a disappointing first-round loss against David Grubnic.

Entering the prestigious event, Lucas was coming off two semi-final round finishes at Brainerd and Memphis giving him an optimistic view for a successful weekend ahead at O’Reilly Raceway Park.

Lucas’ dragster emblazoned with Lucas Oil Stadium livery, for the only time this season, dropped a cylinder right at the hit of the throttle and could only muster an elapsed time of 4.884 seconds, 228.27 mph to Grubnic’s winning time of 4.549 seconds, 327.03 mph.

One of the many highlights of Morgan’s weekend was having the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning in attendance on Sunday in the Morgan Lucas Racing pits and was taken to the starting line to ‘Feel the Thunder’ of the 7,000 horsepower engine of his powerful nitromethane burning dragster.

Lucas will remain in the eighth position in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points standings with 862 markers.
