Hight dominates in victory
In winning for the second time this season and for the fourth time in his brief career, the 2005 NHRA Rookie-of-the-Year drove his way back into contention for the NHRA POWERade Funny Car Championship and minimized the damage to Force’s bid for the same title. The No. 2 qualifier behind Force, who set an ORP track record by pushing the Castrol GTX Ford through the quarter mile in 4.691 seconds, Hight was the quickest in every round of competition, beating Whit Bazemore in a classic final round after beating points leader Ron Capps in a crucial semifinal. As a result, Capps will lead Force by just 19 points when the series moves to “It hasn’t sunk in yet,” Hight said after giving crew chief Jimmy Prock his second win in three years at Indy. “The pressure of this race is unbelievable. You come in telling yourself that it is just another race and then you get here and you see that that is not the case.
