Cory Mac in eighth place after one day
Las Vegas, Friday: Stymied in his first ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals qualifying attempt Friday, Cory McClenathan rallied in his second run, stopping the clock in 4.581 seconds (at 326.48 mph) to claim the No. 8 eight position with two more runs scheduled Saturday. McClenathan aborted his first run and the Carrier Boyz Racing Top Fuel dragster coasted through in 8.606 seconds. "We were happy with our last run," said McClenathan. "We needed to go down the track. We would've preferred to get into the low 4.50s (seconds) but we got in the show. We'll be trying to run better and get a set-up ready for Sunday's eliminations. "Unfortunately, we aren't in the Budweiser Shootout Saturday, but at the same time, that should help us concentrate on the task at hand . . . that being getting ready for the race so we can win more rounds and keep a spot in the top 10."
