Baca disappointed with outing

Las Vegas, Sunday:  Apparently a push rod ended the day for David Baca, who drives the D. Baca & Family Top Fuel Dragster, at the NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals.

Against Andrew Cowin in the opening round, Baca crossed the finish line in 4.850 seconds, over three-tenths of a second behind his qualifying time of 4.526 seconds and over 15-hundredth of a second behind Cowin’s winning time.  Cowin, who qualified in the 13th spot, covered the quarter-mile in an elapsed time of 4.694 seconds.

“This is a humbling sport,” said Baca, after the loss.  “Last night after our last qualifying pass we were on top of the heap.  Today, we have a part that probably doesn’t cost $50 break.  Last night was great.  We know we can play in this game.  A lot of good teams went out in that opening round.  It’s disappointing.  I thought today was our day.”

Baca moved up one spot and is now No. 13 in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings with 587 points.
